Airgun Technologies  Vulcan 3 (.25) vs Panthera (.25) reg pressure.

Hey,
Im considering between the V3 and Panthera/Dynamic. Im more about to get the vulcan but im afraid a little bit that the V3 needs much higher reg pressure (lower) shot count for the same projectile at same speed as the panthera because of much lower valve throughput. As i know in .22 the vulcan needs 200bar for the same energy as the panthera does at 165-170bar.
If you somebody own one of them, can you tell me what reg pressure you need for certain ammo/speed combo? For example 41 grain slug with 290 m/s ? Of course it can be different also.
Thank you.

Gamo Swarm Maxxim Gen 2 .177 Cal Air Rifle

new to Airguns , been a collector of firearms since the 80's , but the black snakes didnt keep the barn rats under control this summer and now they have all but retired for the cold months the rats are getting brazen , .22 LR is just not practical for barn shooting and BB gun seems like it would be too tame

so i landed on a pellet rifle , was not looking to get crazy budget wise and after some research and YT vids i landed on the Gamo Swarm Maxxim x10 break rifle in .177, regretfully it did not come to mind to come here to ask questions first so it is on its way scheduled for delivery tomorrow

interested on thoughts , did i buy bad , did i do ok for entry level , anything i should know , is it finicky on ammo brand , ammo weight , the one video seems theat the heavier gr pellets grouped better and shot flatter so thats what i ordered

thanks

Daystate  Bottle conversion

I have an Alphawolf and a BRK with the big honking air bottles - but - I want / only need an air bottle 1/2 the size and volume with threading that is direct fitment.
Source?

And it would be great to not have to degas the entire gun to change an air bottle in the future 🤷‍♂️especially since manufacturers make degassing a afterthought. Flying with airguns and other safety issues come to mind.

Same scenario will likely apply to my Skout Epoch. Same question: source?
And no, the manufacturer of the Skout Epoch, doesn’t carry or offer a smaller option - yet.

FX .25 Slug Liner, 1:16 TR, Fouling

I have a new FX .25 cal Slug Liner (700mm) with the 1:16 TR. Testing so far has shown very poor performance regardless of ammo brand, diameter, weight, etc.

All Javelin ammo has been terrible. Might as well throw the slug down range by hand. Best groups have been with the H&N 40 gr, .250 (2-3 MOA groups at 50 yards). However I’m getting 1-2 really bad fliers for every 5 shots. I suspect the fliers are caused by heavy lead fouling. Below is a picture of the first patch after 100 shots using the H&Ns. I get similar lead fouling with all Javelin and H&N ammo tested to date. The NSA’s don’t foul as much.

It looks to me like the slugs are being shredded in the liner. Anyone else experience this?

FX  Panthera & slugs VS Skout in windy conditions

Had some fun today. My .22 Panthera came back from FX today after having a leaking off issue repaired under warranty. I reinstalled the AccuTac bipod and Sightron scope and proceeded to validate that all was as it should be using my 18 yard indoor range, testing both the ZAN 30.5 Gr and H&N 34 Gr Heavy slugs.

I then went to the outdoor range and put the target out to 84 yards (the max distance I have available) and in really gusty wind conditions (weather channel indicated 13 mph plus gusts) shot the two groups below shown below. I thought they were pretty good considering the wind so to compare, I brought out the .25 Skout shooting King Heavy IIs sorted for both head size and weight to within a 10th of a grain. The effects of the wind on the pellets was certainly greater than on the slugs. A fun exercise.

Crosman  Bitten by the custom bug

I'm coming up to the finish line on an Airforce build that's spanned over a year. That rifle was build with a specific vision, style, and purpose in mind, and the custom work had to adhere to those standards, which is EXPENSIVE. So now that it's almost done, I've realized... I love customizing. The endless hours scouring every corner of the internet for obscure parts and adapters. Talking to the airgunners and commissioning custom bits and bobs. And the TINKERING. So now, I want to do it again, but this time, customizing just for the sake of customizing. And I'm going to need it to be a lot cheaper. (I think I dumped something like 5k into that texan, the missus will not have any more of that, and she's right). So I'm looking at doing a crossman 2240 hpa conversion, but I want to make sure I'll actually like it when I'm done. I'd love to see other builds, and hear what kind of numbers can be squeezed out of one, if I were so inclined to be absolutely silly about it. I'm also open to ideas on other guns, so long as they have a strong aftermarket community.

Brocock/BRK  BRK Atomic/Ranger XRs… outsized power

30 FPE+ PCPs, like ICBMs are overkill in many environments. So they simply cannot be deployed. Practical, tactical nukes like the Atomic or Ranger XRs can be unleashed quite effectively in many confined and extended environments. They are simply murder on chipmunks, rats, sparrows, squirrels and starlings out to 50+ yards and woodchucks out to 30 yards for me. 17 FPE of outsized smack down. I know there are other low power PCPs. And I give a nod to “all” the other low power hunter/pesters. But am speaking to higher build quality and unflinching, reliable, consistent performance, right out the box. As I see it that throne is currently occupied by the BRK Atomic and Ranger XRs. They are just that Boss.

Hearing Damage?

I was shooting my Diana K98 today and perhaps my ears were more sensitive than normal, but the sound of the shot cycle seemed uncomfortably loud. Pulled out the noise meter app on my phone and registered 95dB at a max. That got me thinking; What's the general consensus on the effects of air gun discharge to hearing? I understand that any prolonged exposure to noises over 90 decibels can start to cause damage, and anything over 120 dB can cause immediate damage. Most my magnum springers come in at around the 90s dB, and I usually shoot outdoors. Although that noise level lasts only a moment, will exposure cause harm to hearing?

Events  Ultimate Field Target Night Matches in Phoenix on Oct 5 and Oct 7

Ben Spencer has partnered with some of the biggest names in airgunning and is proud to announce two Ultimate Field Target matches that will take place the same week as Extreme Benchrest. These UFT at PRGC matches are not affiliated with EBR, merely scheduled to provide the opportunity for airgunners to get more bang for their buck from their trip to Phoenix.

In an effort to minimize shooter’s schedule conflicts with EBR events, the UFT at PRGC matches will be at night. Each night match will be open to a maximum of 36 shooters, providing the chance to compete to a possible 72 competitors that may, or may not, have been able to register for EBR. It’s a lot of work to put on two separate matches, but Ben wanted to do it this way to give as many people as possible the opportunity to join in the fun and compete.

The first of these two matches will be on Thursday, October 5th.

The second will be on Saturday, October 7th.

Same rules as above, participants can choose to compete in the pellet or slug class. Either pellet or slug must be commercially available to be legal. Up to 100fpe. Everyone shooting from a bucket/stool using a bipod/sticks. There may be forced position shots, which may or may not include a standing monopod shot (in the past these have been offhand, no standing bipod) but the bulk of the shots will be from seated bucket stool and bipod/sticks. Think “Hunter” class in sub 20fpe field target.

The ONLY place slugs are currently allowed for long range/high power field target is UFT at PRGC!

PRIZE PURSE

There will be door prizes as well as prizes going to the winners of each class (must beat someone to be eligible for a placement prize, for example-if only two slug shooters register, the high slug score will be awarded a prize, the other shooter will not)

A total purse valuing over $5000 has been donated by the following sponsors…
  • Utah Airguns
  • Element Optics
  • DonnyFL/Saber Tactical
  • Texasfieldtarget.com
  • JD’s Custom Designs
  • Captain O-Ring
  • Stud Loader
Utah Airguns has donated the following prizes, and this is for EACH of the night matches, so a double set of prizes came from UA.
  • Hatsan Flash
  • Accutac bipod
  • Airmarksman tank bag
  • Airmarksman magazine holder

AirgunNation threw in some swag, with AGN stickers for the participants.

RAFFLES

There will be a raffle for one of the S&S Targets “The Fly” and an Element Optics Titan 5-25x56 APR-1-d MRAD scope, one scope and one target for each night match.

The Fly, with choice of 2 reducers.

IMG_20230920_152716.jpg

Raffle tickets will be $5 per ticket or 5 tickets for $20. Drawing will be at the post match meeting for each night. Shipping is winner’s responsibility if winner is not present at the drawing.

Follow the links for sign up:

https://phoenixrodandgun.org/node/14784

https://phoenixrodandgun.org/node/14785

Registration opens September 25th.

If necessary, there will be wait lists for shooters beyond the 36/night. A wait listed shooter must be present during sight in to reserve a spot in case one of the first 36 shooters to sign up does not show. Names will be added to wait list on a first come, first serve basis. If wait listed shooter is called up, the $30 entry fee can be paid at that time. Wait listed shooters will be eligible for door prizes, even if a spot doesn’t open up for them to shoot in the match.

For local shooters, targets will be in the same location for the Sept monthly match as for these two October night matches. Kill zones will be reduced for Oct night matches, but consider it home court advantage/practice if you can attend the Sept match.

Ben was able to schedule in a decent block of time for sight-in, 3-6pm both days. We foresee that turning into a good opportunity for dope and zero verification, as well as a convenient opportunity to spend time with other airgun enthusiasts, meeting new people, etc. Come early and hang out, sight-in, chat it up, etc. Sight-in will be on a covered range to get you out of that late afternoon sun.

Again, UFT at PRGC is THE ONLY place you can shoot slugs in field target. Come experience it for yourself. Based on past matches, the fun is guaranteed.

N/A  New addition...

this just arrived a little while ago.

Air Arms TX200 MKI in a custom carved thumbhole stock, knurled underlever and Leupold VX-III 6.5-20X40MM. I have seen less than a handful of MKI's come up for sale in many years. It's in really nice condition and has a quick shot cycle and crisp trigger. This a nice addition to my collection, my other TX200 is a MKII, maybe someday I'll add a MKIII?

They're back!

I haven't done any serious pesting since April. I usually hit the squirrels hard around that time because there are so many, and they are all looking for new turf. I don't mind a couple of squirrels a day cleaning up whats in the feeder. I noticed a large rat a few nights ago so I put up a camera to monitor. That night I got the rat and a mouse that showed up a little later. The over night has been fine, a neighborhood possum has been cleaning up whats left from the day around 1am.

The concerning part about the video history is the amount of squirrel activity again. When they get too comfortable they like my boat.

I took out these two today inside 10 min. The big one checked out his dead buddy prior to getting up to the feeder.
Small one ended up as a back of the brain shot. Bad aim or it moved a little, who knows.
Big one was a perfect shot and it was anchored in the feeder. My dog tried to get it. The video was late, before that she jumped twice as high as she could and fell on her head.

Taken from a window 18 yards away.

My PP700 22 cal previously liked AA 16gr the best. I just tried some of the JTS 16.08 grains today and shot better groups. Those are what was used. I am happy with them. Like everyone, I wish they came in 500. They are not as hard as I thought they would be. My dog knocked the tin over and they hit the ground and I ended up with a bunch of bent skirts from the tin still partially full landing on them.

PCP Rifle  NLA Edgun Leshiy 2 450 9mm Behemoth Moderator Raptor regulator $2100 shipped. ** Reduced** No trades

I bought the 450 9mm over the summer with intentions to hunt bigger game with it. While it packs a punch with heavy slugs it just doesn’t quite have the ft/lbs I need to do the job. Included with gun 2 mags, couple of pucks, fill probe etc. The only change I made was put in a regular fill gauge rather than the meazy. Just personal preference. It is like new. $2100 shipped.
