Hatsan  Target Shooting @ 10 Yards

Ok, I know 10 yards ain't much but there was a kid playing in the yard next door so I went to the basement, didn't want to take any chances.
I'm positive the groups will open the farther I get but I need to practice a lot.
This is using the included scope which I am amazed with, I'm amazed that anyone would sell a piece of crap like that with any air rifle. I can't get it clear, it's always blurry at any distance. I got a Daisy 3-9 I might try, I think it might be better.
I'm going to put a Hawke optic on it or a Bushnell Banner (I think that's what it's called).

Umarex 30 slugs failure

Have been trying several brands of slugs in my Umarex Gauntlet 2 .30 caliber. They all have same problem, too tall. When you try and put one in the breech, it will require hitting the bolt, very hard. I have to carry a dowel with to remove slug when jammed. I saw that Umarex was selling 60 grain slugs in 30 cal. Thought I had found the perfect slug for the Gauntlet. Was I ever disappointed to see the same problem occur. Jammed again. Why would you put on the market a slug that won’t even work in a rifle you manufacture? when the delivery arrived, it contained two tins. One was opened and slugs were rolling everywhere. I informed Umarex, and have received no response. Beware of sluds not fitting r our rifle.

Stainless Steel barrel - how to blacken

3 of these barrels arrived to me with a very last train from ebay/Russia back in Feb.2022.
These are Russian Stainless Steel #1045 material, much softer then we got used here in America, I learned this I had to rework the muzzle end threads on the lathe and the cutting chip is well defined also I recrown them to my liking, and I got a feel the steel is a bit softer.
This .22x500 barrel is mounted to my L2, 15.5" TR polygonal rifling - non chocked - is a MOA accurate with .22 MRD's up to 75 meters this far I have it documented.
I would like to make it black as much the L2 handguard, but I did not decided yet to blue/black only the portion at front that is sticking out or the entire length.
Couple years ago I purchased two Birchwood packages for aluminum and steel tuch-ups if needed anywhere on my airguns, but stil never opened these bottles yet, so I don't know nothing how those work.
What other DIY tricks would you suggest from your experience? Sending out for ceracoating at my place is not budget friendly.

N/A  How to compensate up to 190 yards.

I zero my rifles at 45 mts, 50 yards.

I made a formula that was complemented with notes.

First I used my Panthera Compact Hunter with JSB 34 grain and later on I changed the scope and used the formula on my Wolverine HR non HP and JSB 25.4 grain.

I had decided not to share this formula because no BC, altitude, bla,bla,bla... And bla, was incorporated in the formula, but once I confirmed that compensation was identical on both rifles, maybe one of you could want to give it a try and take it as base for your personal notes of compensation. Distance measures are in meters, so multiply by 1.1 to get yards.

Here it goes:

Airforce  Did I make a wrong decision

I told myself that I am done with pcps. Majority of them or delicate, expensive, a pain in the butt in regards to things needed to be sending pellets down range. But on the other hand they are powerful, quite accurate, nowhere as finicky as Springer's, and a tinkerer's dream.

The reason why I brought this post up is because I never touched physically seen in my presence nor have I ever shot a Air Force Condor or Air Force escape or Air Force Talon And I'm doubting myself about should I have purchase one just to get the feeling of shooting it out of my system. They say condors are very powerful and with the LW barrel they are pretty accurate. But then I also read that it takes a lot to get them to be as good as some of their owners claim. Basically just doubting myself about leaving them alone or should I have at least purchased one and get a 50/50 of a waste of my money or money well spent. Just late night babbling

  • Question
JTS  Wise purchase or Not ?

I'm about ready to "pull the trigger" on a new rifle and would love some input from the fine members here. I have never owned a PCP before, so I'm pretty clueless on what to expect.
I'm looking at:

JTS Airacuda Max in .22 & JTS COMP1 Portable PCP Compressor

I have watched several YT vids, and all seem pretty positive. As this is my first outing with PCP, I can't blow huge money just yet.

Advice on what gr. pellet would perform best in this rifle would be of great help as well. I tend to stick with H&N and JSB in my other rifles...
I will use the gun for backyard plinking mainly, but with a rodent/bird kill occasionally.....75yrd

I was delighted to find out JTS (America) is located just 30 min from my house, so if any issues arise, then pounding on a door shouldn't take that long.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Velocity versus Accuracy

The subject of changing a PCPs velocity as a way to improve accuracy comes up fairly often. I've tried it occasionally without clear favorable results. But I decided to do a more systematic test. I have a NOE mold that makes 27 grain 25 caliber pellets. I've never gotten them to shoot small groups in either of my 25s. So I tested them in my 25 caliber Avenger today. I shot two 5 shot groups, at least, at 1200 psi, 1400 psi, 1600 psi, 1800 psi, 2000 psi, and 2200 psi. I included FX 25.4 grain but only at 1200, 2000, and 2200 psi regulator setting. I got concerned switching back and forth on the pellets was affecting the group size. I don't think that happened based upon my final group with the FX pellets at 2000 reg setting (same as my first groups before shooting any of the cast pellets).

I'll attach the target but my bottom line is the velocity did not significantly affect the accuracy. Doesn't mean that always happens but I think it is true for my guns. For the FX pellets, the 2200 setting gave me an average velocity of 886. 5 shot groups were .3 inches and .75 inches at 25 yards but in the big one 4 where in .25 inches. The 1200 reg setting gave me an average velocity of 729 fps and groups of .3 and .4 inches. I only shot one group at 2000 and the average velocity was 865 and the group was .3 inches. That is not a lot of different velocity data points but I have more for the cast.

The 1200 reg setting gave me an average velocity of 708 fps with the cast and groups of 1.1 and .4 inches. The bigger group had 4 in .6 inches. This was the best I have done with these pellets and might deserve more testing except I don't really want to shoot at 708 fps. At 1400 I got an average of 794 fps and 0.8 and 0.5 inch groups. At 1600 I got 814 fps and 1 and .9 inch groups. At 1800, 835 fps and 1.1 and .7 inch groups. At 2000 I got 849fps and .9 and .75 inch groups. I then tried a couple hammer spring settings at this regulator pressure and the +1.5 turn setting gave me the same velocity and .75 and 1.2 inch groups (4 in .75 for the bigger one). The 1200 and 1400 reg setting groups might be slightly better than the others but that could just be the normal variation in my shooting. I was not fine tuning the hammer spring for each regulator setting but that was true for both pellet types. I did try several settings for the 2000 regulator setting and I think the 1.5 turn setting was a little better but still within the range of the other results.

Still seems like a reasonable thing to check on PCPs but I will be surprised if I ever get much different results by changing velocity, I was shooting at 25 yards.

FX  .30 Panthera Hunter Compact Slug Tune

I'm probably going to do some content on it soon, but my thoughts so far are that the .30 FX PHC is a perfect hunting platform.
I sold my 600mm .30 Maverick to my cousin so I could put the proceeds towards a .30 PHC as my new hunting slug-gun. Even though the Maverick was an absolute hammer with surgical accuracy, I wanted to take a chance on the .30 Panthera Hunter Compact as a slug gun because of what I learned with my .22 Panthera - that being it is much less cold sensitive than the Maverick.
I think the higher flow valving of the Dynamic block allows for less cold weather performance hinderance. This .30 PHC is gonna be a cold weather coyote gun, essentially my winter gun. I noticed the Mav regs would creep up in the cold (reg seat material shrinkage?) and mess with my velocity a little - not much, but enough to notice, even though it was still totally usable on 15-30 degree hunts and I did shoot a lot of critters on bitter cold nights with it.
From what I saw with my 600mm Panthera (I was one of the first preorders and got it in January 2023) it shoots pretty consistent velocity in the winter, even when it's been out in the field a long time where funny stuff starts happening to regs in the cold. Probably something to do with the high efficiency valving and larger plenum - but as long as you have a good hammer spring tune it seems to shoot great in the winter. I need to test my hypothesis on this new .30 P-Cat - but I'm pretty sure it will perform better in the cold than the Maverick platform (which I still love, btw, and I'll never sell my .22 Maverick which was my first FX gun!).

I was initially trying for a 95-100fpe tune but I found with that much air blasting out of the short 395mm barrel it was making my slugs unstable, resulting in bad accuracy. Over the weekend I settled at 960fps with Hybrids, making 91.2fpe. I was able to achieve higher power, but by dialing back a bit to 91fpe I was now shooting MOA at 50. Before at like 95-100 fpe the groups were... not great.

My tune is 175 bar with hammer one click under 3.25 on the scale. Pic below. Hope this helps as I have not seen anyone try to use the .30 PHC as a slug gun yet!

Beeman  Beeman Custom Shop rifles

Good fortune is a blessing. When it comes to airguns, I certainly have had good fortune. Sometimes the stars line up and something extraordinary comes your way.
Beeman rifles have always been a passion for the collector in me. Ever since I saw a Beeman Catalog Cover for the first time I was hooked! The chase was on.
With so many beautiful guns to choose from it has been an investment of time, patience and money. That coupled with a bit of good fortune has led me to acquire many great examples.
These two rifles in particular are the end result. These are Beeman Custom Shop models. One is an FWB 124 and the other is an R1.
The 124 is aka The King Bee. This is the only actual one I've ever seen other than a grainy black and white photo of one on Tap Talk In the old Yellow Forum.
The King Bee is the precursor to the Goudy style Custom Shop models an example being the Queen Bee currently owned by Pilkgun (excuse me if I'm not up to date or if the name is not totally correct). I've seen a couple of others like it owned by some of our members. All beautiful I might add.
The R1 Custom Shop models are also very scarce. I'm pretty sure Sonny has one and also Don R. Both are incredible!
This particular one came to me via another well respected member of our community. I am grateful that he allowed me to be the new steward of this exquisite rifle.
With the passing of Robert Beeman and now the auction of his museum pieces, I felt that sharing these two products of his imagination might be a small homage to his life's work. I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I do.

N/A  Hooked another one!

My cousins son had a blast this past weekend with my Evol Mini. He was drilling coke cans at 60 pretty consistently and we were even having to hold for wind. The boy is thoroughly hooked. 😁 His dad mentioned that one of the guys at his hunting club just bought a .50 cal air rifle, so after he shot, it didn't take much convincing to get the kid something. He takes after his dad and will never see the top of a fridge either, so even with the stock all the way in, he still had to do some finagalin to get a sight picture, making the hits more impressive.

And I just happen to have a great starter rifle for him. I picked up a S200 from AoA a while back with a broken stock. LOL I still haven't gotten around to repairing the stock and it's been hanging out needing a reason for me to do something with it. Gonna slap some epoxy on it and call it good, then we'll probably have to chop half the butt stock off to fit him, but I'm thinkin Uncle Santa is gonna crush it this year

FX  Differences b/t FX Wildcat III & Power Pup?

I always hate making my first post in a new forum. I always try to search out my answers but, eventually have to ask. So, my apologies for the lead-up to the actual question.

Like many here, I have a squirrel problem. What was just minor yard damage has become four holes in my screened porch, multiple gas nozzles chewed, a wire harness on our '19 4Runner, the end off an electrical cord, etc... I started down this rabbit hole (decent bourbon btw) in the search for a good bang-for-the-buck air rifle that wouldn't perk up the neighbors like the .22lr. I like to do my research but can get caught in analysis paralysis.

So, I was in the ballpark of the AV Avenge-X and I'm getting tired of the delays. (really feel for those that pre-ordered) I really like the idea of a bullpup. I like the control of having the bulk of the rifle in closer to my body. But, with the wait, started looking for options. The Umarex Origin and JTS Airacuda/Max have made it into the mix. I really like the classic look of the Airacuda as well as the look of the Max.

Given that this will be my first PCP, and first air rifle in a long time (besides my son's RR Buck 105), I decided to visit a local dealer to get educated by someone besides YT and going blind reading forums as I have been for a few weeks. I got to put my hands on FX Dreamline Classics in syn and walnut, .22 & .25, respectively. I also got to hold a Power Pup in .25. All three were on a different level than any airgun I've seen, much less fired. The Power Pup really felt good to me. It shouldered quickly and I felt like I could hold it on target longer than the traditional rifle style I'm used to. I really appreciate small businesses, having started and run many, including one I started from scratch and sold. So, if I do end up going FX, I'll likely support him.

I'm really trying to understand the differences between the Wildcat III and the Power Pup. I see a slight difference in plenum and energy comparing the bottle versions. Looks-wise, I prefer the tube. But the Dream Pup gives up a lot of energy potential to the Power Pup and Wildcat standards.

With all that said, I really hadn't planned on spending more than $500 on a rifle. But, I really need as accurate a gun as I can get for squirrels at 20 to 75 yards. (I know I'll have to do my part, too.) I'm looking for the best value for the performance. I don't need super high shot counts but, that would be a bonus for target practice/plinking. I don't mind buying once and crying once for the right fit. But, I hate wasting money for no reason. Did I just take an unnecessary leap or, am I on the right track?

I know, there's really two questions. Sorry. Thank you in advance for your help and patience!

Can AGN purchase and resell Pellets?

Howdy
What if JSB packaged pellets from 1 die like they do for FX and branded them as AGN, and then AGN would only sell them only here on the forum would you buy them? We could have a contest on the forum to create the branding image. Maybe only 1 or 2 pellets to start with. If this worked it might bring funding to AGN although there would be costs for handling and processing.

Just a thought.

Benjamin  Huma Regulator on Benjamin Marauder field and Target

Purchased new air tube for regular mrod from Crossman ($32) including shipping and handling. This was so I could add a Huma xxl regulator to my (Benjamin Marauder Field and Target). Huma makes a Huma Field and Target regulator. ThSway Benjamin designed Marauder Field and Target, it had no room for plenum! New air tube is my fix. Saw some discussion on here about how others wanted to do this but was limited by MFT design with airguage!
