QB78S strange things happened!

I mounted a Center Point scope on my new QB78S after and preceded to sight it in, which is usually only takes a few minutes, however not the case today. At about 10 yards it was shooting about 3 inches low and 2 inches to the left. Should have been an easy job, however no matter how much I adjusted the scope the group never moved, just clustered in the same location. Well after many tries I figured the scope was bad and took it off. Then I mounted a red dot sight and low and behold I had the same darn problem. So I begin to thing the gun must be at fault so I reinstalled the rear sights and made my first shot and I was only about an inch off vertical and about 1/2v inch off horz. Made a sight adjustment and it shot great and even did well on my reactive targets. Any idea what's going on? I guess to be sure its the scope is to try a different scope. Also had one other strange to me happened and that I had my first new CO2 cart without any gas. By then I figured it was time to stop and go watch some football. Charles

How to slug a barrel? 🤔

How to slug a barrel? 🤔

I keep reading how important it is to "slug your barrel" in order to play the slug game..... (And buy correctly sized slugs for the barrel.)

However, two things seem to never get explained in this context:
▪ How to "slug" the barrel
▪ How to measure what you "slugged"

I suspect, to most mechanically minded people these two things are so obvious that they don't require any further explanation.

To me, being less gifted on the mechanical side — I'm a bit lost...

Would you help me out?
Note, that I don't have a lathe in the garage, nor am I a hobby gunsmith, nor do I have a vast variety of tools at my disposal (I do have some).

I have only a made-in-China caliper — and I have no idea how I am supposed to measure the grooves(?) that the rifling put into the slug.... (Now you see just how confused I really am....)

Do I need to go through the hassle of removing the barrel? (More confusion....)

Thanks for any help, 😊

Matthias

VULCAN 3 ON THE WAY TO LONG ISLAND!!!

Well i finally made my decision on which shooter in .30 I would buy...well after some serious research & thoughts including Bang for the Buck .... i found a nice Vulcan 3 .30 power tuned from Tony TT...the rig is abou 6weeks old comes with a Monstrum scope which i have no experience with at all....heard they have nice glass but not the best at long distance sighting....I had the Vulcan 2 a few yrs back so if the 3 is just a tad of improvement im looking at a keeper for sure & with a TT power tune i think playing Santa for my own gift i should have a very Happy & Merry belated Christmas only because its not being delivered til Wednesday.... 🙄.....Hopefully some of you informative airgunners have some positive or negative feedback on the AGT VULCAN 3...

Precision Airgun Reviews

I read and watch a lot of reviews, even rifles I’ll never own. Something I’d like to see is a target scope being used. Reviews should be done in good weather conditions. I can’t learn a lot of what a rifle is truly capable of if the only test day is variable wind condition.

I have a decent 6-24, an Athlon Midas Tac, but it pales in comparison when shooting paper compared to my 36x Sighton. Sure it doesn’t have a Christmas tree reticle that are so cool, but it’s not needed. I now evaluate all my new rifles using the Sightron.

I see a good deal of reviews that pair the rifle with a scope in the budget bracket of the rifle, I don’t think that does the evaluation of the rifle any favors. Is it a rifle review or a scope review. We have Cyclops Joe for glass.

They go to length trying different pellets and maybe tuning the rifle, why not have a purpose scope for it?

I know we have to take every review with a grain of salt. There are a lot of guys posting their personal reviews, and they have zero standing or credentials. I just chuckle at those. We’ve all been to a public range to witness the average shooter. Just throwing something out there I would like to see.

What would you like to see?

Steyr  Steyr Pro X honest experience

Got my Christmas gift 🎁 early this year. I have to say it's a fun rifle, the semiautomatic feature adds to the fun appeal, but it wasn't a perfect journey as all the youtube reviews lead me to believe it would be, or perhaps I haven't made the correct offering to the PCP air rifle gods... Here is the good and not so good list:

The good 😁:
  • Beautiful looks, the fit and finish is flawless but for nearly $3 large it better be.
  • The trigger is excellent
  • Very compact fits in my rifle backpack.
  • Shoots Crossman 14gr pellets fairly accurately making rapid fire shots cheaper, but the JSB 18gr and 15gr pellets are the most accurate.
  • Low 200bar fill with around 60 shots per fill. This is a great rifle for a hand pump.
The not so good 😕:
  • The initial 30ish shots out of the box were consistent within 10fps spread. Then the gun started to gradually get very inconsistent with spreads in the 20fps. After 10 shots from a fresh fill the velocity would increase like the rifle was wasn't regulated.
    • Upon searching the internet I found that I am not the only owner experiencing this phenomenon, and before someone makes a comment regarding the pellet fitment in the magazine this happened consistently with 5 different high quality pellet brands.
    • I thought after putting a tin of pellets through it the belville washers in the regulator would start cooperating but no... so I inspected the regulator o rings and they looked to be fine, I then polished the mating surfaces of the belvile washers and then reassembled the regulator, and now the regulator is working with extreme spreads around 10fps.
  • The reported pop by the magazine/your ear is there. I read about this on many of the UK 🇬🇧 reviews and yep it was loud and uncomfortable 😐.
    • The pop is due to air escaping from gaps between the magazine and the barrel and the transfer port as there is no o-rings or bushing to close the gap, unlike the Leshiy 2's red transfer port bushing.
    • You can adjust the barel clearance by adjusting the two rear set screws. The rear screw pulls the barrel towards the magazine and the forward one pulls the barrel forward. It's a balancing act to find the optimal clearance that won't cause the magazine to jam.
    • After adjusting the clearance the pop was significantly reduced but it's still there, but not painfully loud as it's inherent to the design.
    • Just know you will only experience the pop with a loaded magazine as the backpreasure of the pellet causes the air to escape.
  • The magazine is under an incredible amount of spring tension. If you wind the magazine in the rifle !!!DO NOT!!! press the unwind lever with out holding the magazine to slow down the rotation, you will bend the pins that keep the spring tension, as I have done. I was able to straighten them out but what a pain.
So the rifle is now working well and is a ton of fun and I believe it is of heirloom quality. Perhaps it's just my bad luck, but it's my honest experience. I just want to put this out there so people know it may not be all rainbows and unicorns, like the youtube reviews lead you to believe, and now there is a reference for those that may have a similar experience.

RAW Rapid  RAW BM500X .22 cut rifled barrel twist rate 1:27"

I measured the twist rate of my RAW BM500X .22 with heavy cut rifled barrel.

It shoots 18.13 grain JSB pellets great at around 930fps.

The twist rate is around 1:27".

What other pellets the users of such barrels are shooting successfully?

What are the other tested options other than 18.13 grain ?

Regards,

iStrelok settings scrambled?

I rely heavily on iStrelok (I use iStrelok Pro) for calculating drop on my multi-distance range and especially hunting. I haven't been shooting my airguns for a couple years but getting back into it and using the app again. Today I selected one of my common rifle/pellet combos and the ballistic settings for the pellet are mixed up with settings from another cartridge. Does anybody know how this occurs or anything I can do to prevent it?

RTI  Prophet P1 .22 Efficiency & Power question?

Hi guys,

Coming from M3 owner, I've bought a used prophet P1 and was pretty impressed with the low profile design. But the max power and efficiency is poor compared to my M3 (of course) and even my DIY gun.

So normally I noticed that M3 has 20-23mm hammer travel and relatively light hammer 19-24gram depends on your power settings or after market mods.
Even my DIY PCP that has 22mm hammer travel with traditional valve & 24gram hammer has much better efficiency compared to my P1

M3: 1.35 Cubic inch / foot pound of Energy shooting 27gr at 960fps out of 24inch barrel (shot count: 58-60)
DIY gun: 1.2 CI/FtLbs shooing 27gr slug at 930fps out of 20inch barrel (shot count: 50)
P1: 0.9 CI/FtLbs shooing 27gr slug at 940fps out of 24inch barrel (Shot count: 35-38)
All in .22 cal

Upon inspecting the gun internal, I found out that P1 has heavier hammer (31gram) and much shorter hammer travel at only 11mm, which makes high power delivery much more difficult and poor efficiency.

So my task is to modify the gun to increase hammer travel and improve power, reduce cocking force, and get better efficiency.
Is that the right way to go, the hammer travel route?
