Theoben  Impact Arms RM 100/Theoben Crusader

This is my Impact Arms RM 100/Theoben Crusader in .22. Restored to like new condition by David Slade. I think he did an outstanding job. For those that don’t know the Impact Arms RM 100 rifles were produced at the Theoben factory after Theoben closed. The factory was bought out minus the Theoben name. The remaining parts were assembled in to rifles under the name Impact Arms. Mine was made on a Crusader action. David Slade is the owner of Airgunwerks one of the premier places to have work done on springer/piston air-rifles.

Solving the Challenge of Lateral Wobble while Tripod Shooting

I’ve just gotten back into the realm of PCPs and am enjoying it immensely. I primarily focus on plinking (within 50 yards) and occasional target practice in my garage (10 yards).

While I prefer not to use a bench, I truly appreciate the accuracy it affords. I do not formally compete — my only competition is myself.

With a longstanding affinity for photography, I’ve accumulated multiple tripods of different sizes. I decided to purchase an arca adapter and mounted the Alpha on several high end tripod heads. Even the rather expensive ones (heavy duty fluid and ball heads) didn’t seem to work as the weight distribution on the Alpha Wolf is rather far back. I finally settled on a Leophoto MA-30L, and it successfully keeps the Alpha in position despite the weight imbalance.

After discovering that the MA-30L solved the balance problem, I soon realized that a lateral wobble while aiming was extremely difficult to reduce. Despite watching multiple videos online, I improved to some degree but could not tame the beast to my satisfaction. I know what you’re thinking . . . I should have just practiced more. However that wasn’t the point.

I experimented with multiple tripods and gadgets I built — some suspended from the main tripod and others mounted on a separate tripod. Finally after lots of experimentation, the lateral wobble improved considerably.

However despite some degree of success, another challenge immediately became apparent — the ease of adjustability and changing aim was challenging at best. Frankly it just wasn’t enjoyable adjusting the aim from target to target on a 25-yard multiple target sheet.

Finally online I found a Saber Tactical Pro Bench Monopod, a rear rest that had potential. I contacted the company and discussed this challenge at length with them. They actually tapped the base with a 3/8 16 thread for tripod mounting and shipped it the very same day.

Frankly I could not have been more pleased. It works great, is rock solid, and makes shooting without a bench highly accurate and enjoyable. Setup is quick and it’s precision and ease of adjustment serve my purpose perfectly. In fact, I’m so pleased that I decided to photograph the setup to share with this audience.

While I could not find much online, I’m certain that I’ cannot be
Alpha left.jpg
Alpha Right.jpg
Alpha close.jpg
the only one struggling with considerable lateral wobble on a tripod.

While this post is not intended for hunters, benchrest shooters, or those who line up and shoot rapidly in varying settings, I hope it provides a rather effective e solution for those who prefer to use a tripod for target practice.

I extend thanks to Saber Tactical for a great design and superb service, and to this forum for a host of valuable insights that helps us better enjoy and advance in this sport.

Somebody the other day wanted to know what their

TX 200 was do'en in the fps. They said about 700 was average?so i dug out the old tx and it was cold and shot it 3or 4 time's with cp 14.5 and came up with this?i think if it was in room temp it would have got up to 740 or 750 that's what she used to do.Now this is a old gun?any hoot here;s the pic.

Tethering Using Saber Tactical Tank Valve

For those tethering a carbon fiber tank to their airgun using a Saber Tactical Tank Valve ST0031 - have you run into any problems? I have been told/advised that the ST tank valve is not designed to be used for tethering and that there may be problems with this setup. My ST tank valve has blown o-rings a couple of times and I'm told it may be from tethering.

PCP Rifle  SOLD Ataman M2R Bullpup .22 for Sale or trade

I love bullpups, but this gun has been in the back burner since getting my Huben GK1.

It shoulders perfectly, OAL w/out mod is <33". Cocking is super smooth, it prefers the 18.13gr fx, I've only tried the 15.9grfx and the 21.9gr AEA. It will shoot Zan .219gr 22gr slugs superbly, the trigger could be better but I have not messed with it. It's currently shooting 18gr pellets at 965fps and will headshot sh-medium sized iguanas out to 70yds relatively easy.

Comes with 3 mags, 10 shots each, and will give you about 50-60 shots from a 300b fill in it's current set up.

Make me an offer, scope not included, mod can be included.

When you care how your pellets arrive.....

You order them from Trenier. I got my order of pellets from Trenier today. As always they were packed like fine china. I ordered 20 tins of pellets and all individually packed in bubble envelopes. Like anyone else I like a bargain but it usually comes with poor packaging and banged up pellets. I won't bash vendors but I will brag on good ones. Trenier has good prices and fair shipping costs. Paying perhaps a little bit more easily justifiable when your pellet tins arrive like this. Plus I like supporting smaller businesses.

FX  Any plans for different sized DRS Plenums?

Just wondering if FX or anyone else is working on any other sized plenums for the DRS? I have a .22 with the 600mm barrel. I came with the 11cc plenum which is very efficient but is not great for heavier ammo or higher power. I purchased the SHP 63cc plenum and it makes a huge power increase, almost too much, but also turns the DRS into a huge air hog since the plenum is 10% of the overall air cylinder volume. IMHO about half that would be much better!

It seems to me someone should be able to produce a plenum that falls somewhere in between these 2 extremes. The Dreamline Power Plenum is 17cc, but you can add a second one and double that (34cc). Either a one piece medium sized plenum with a volume of around 30cc or even an 11cc extension that could be added between the DRS and the stock 11cc plenum that could double the size would be a nice compromise.

Anyone aware of anything being developed to fill this gap between 11cc and 63cc?

Taipan  Taipan Veteran Tactical stock

Who has one of these?
Screenshot_20240614_063324_Google.jpg
Is it worth the upgrade? I tend to like metal/synthetic airguns for my uses and while a nice laminate stock is nice, I'd prefer a different one. For the price at what I have in my Vet I think I can justify the $325 price. Just curious if others like how it feels or not. Id lose the rear part to ride a bag, but looks like i can make something there if need be. I'm ordering some spare parts from Talon Tunes anyways like a valve and a gauge. Ordered some orings last night also. Good thing as today looks like I found my Short has a leak. I think it's oring on the gauge but just in case getting a new gauge to be safe.

Beeman  Classic Beeman R10,,, I Caved Again!

Well like it says, I caved on another old air gun. This pretty special from a member here! This was bought new 10/11/1990. Then in July of 2021 sent to J.T. for a complete tune by the original owner. Came with a Hawke 4-12x40 AO Airmax scope, original purchase receipt, and before and after reports from John Thomas when tuned. I am ecstatic with this purchase! I sold this same model in 20 cal in the early 80's when it was first produced. Had it for about a year and sold it, dumb move.
20240613_155256[1].jpg

But when I seen this one even though it was in 177, it was special enough to go for. 8.4 grain AA field or JSB Exact 8.4 grain pellets @ 924.9 av. fps with 16 fpe is capable of accuracy I only get with my tuned 54 Diana Air King Pro!

20240613_205804[1].jpg

It was a bad day to try out a new air gun today, as we had 15 to 20 mph wind with gusts to 30 this afternoon, and severe storm watch for this evening. But I managed to stand at the side of the house resting my forearm hand on the corner and sighted it in at 22 yards after getting the stock back on it and scope leveled and mounted after it came around noon. Two shots low left, adjusted windage and shot 3 more, then adjusted up 6 clicks.
20240613_155616[1].jpg

That was when momma decided we needed to go out for supper. So got around and took about a 45 minuet ride to a favorite grub spot. So about the time we left to come home the rain started, after about 10 minutes of light rain, it got real gusty and had about a 15 to 20 minute downpour. SI figured when I got home about sundown it would be to nasty to shoot it anymore with everything soaked, and blowing. To my surprise about 5 mile from home the sun was getting ready to appear and by the time we got in town the wind was dead.

Well after changing back into more comfortable clothes, I decided to try a group. Calm winds, and sill standing at the corner of the house, resting my forend hand against the corner of the house and took five shots at 22 yards.
20240613_210147[1].jpg

Needless to say, Im extremely happy, as well as finished sighting in. The rifle was tuned with JSB Exact 8.4 grain diablo pellets. In all reality the same pellets I sighted in with above. But right where I wanted it, about .2" high at 22 yards. should give dead on aiming out to 35 to 40 yards on squirrel and starlings. anything rat sized.

Another Keeper, it just never ends, I hope!

Paypal No Longer Safe for Selling Airguns (Scammers Have Won)

There is no way to sell an air rifle using PayPal anymore. I sold an air rifle for $3500. The transaction was eligible for seller protection. I insured the package for $3000 and required a direct signature from the guy himself, Joseph. The package was delivered by UPS and signed for directly by Joseph himself with proof from UPS.

Joseph is a scammer and he already knew he was getting my gun for free. And he did. They have it figured out now. He actually claimed he never got the package. Even with all that proof, he got away with it. (I just gave some criminal a 9mm Full Auto Evanix Max for free.)

Don't sell a gun and accept payment through PayPal unless you are willing to lose it. As of January of this year PayPal changed their policy so they can do this to you. They did not get me because before they could charge me, I changed my bank account number. But now I have no PayPal account which I have had for 20 years.

If you really want to sell a gun sell it on ebay. Or you can do a buy/sell transaction through ebay it's just 12%. You can also accept a credit cards payment through Square.com ...not sure how that is protected now but I'm guessing Visa/Mastercard would not let a merchant get scammed.

Athlon Midas Tac 4-15X44

After a less than impressive purchase of a Sidewinder, I found a good deal on a Midas Tac 4-16X44 and it arrived today.
First impressions, The MT is a really nice scope. It is as clear as any scope I've ever looked through, no kidding. I've had some really nice scopes in the past, but this one beats them all in clarity. There is no discernable chromatic aberration or pincushion distortion, so the view is very nice. Like most scopes it gets a bit darker on 16X, but really not bad at all. Nothing like the Sidewinder. Turrets are great, nice tactile and audible clicks. Zero stop works great. Parallax was right on all the way, unlike the Sidewinder, which was way off. So far off, I had to make a tape for it, as it wasn't even close. The reticle is very good, with a numbered mildot, which is exactly what I like, because I get my count off sometimes and miss a shot. This way, I know where I'm supposed to hold. The center is open, with a tiny, tiny dot in the center, making accurate shooting easy. My only grips is it's not lighted, but I fully understand the money was put in the mechanics and lenses, and that is exactly how it should be. I tried a "off the rifle" tracking test, and it came out perfect, but i must admit, it's almost impossible to keep the scope solid. Eye relief is good, and head position at 16X is fairly critical, but it's not on the order of a lot of scopes, it's somewhere in the middle of the critical zone. One nice thing is that when your head is off, it goes completely black, so you either have it, or you don't, no graying or whiteouts, I like that. The eye distance is also fairly critical, but doesn't change much from high to low power, so it's pretty easy to deal with. It is far easier to look through than the Sidewinder at the same power settings.
I hope to get it on a gun tomorrow and do some shooting but the initial impression is that this could well be one of the best scopes I've ever owned. It is lighter than most in this range and is sized just right. After having this scope in hand, it makes me want to return the Sidewinder.

N/A  What to look for in a used Mrod?

I'm looking into getting a PCP for the first time. I had a break barrel Gamo whisper that served me well until it literally burned in a fire but this time around I want more power and a magazine/clip. I will be using this to deal with pests/rodents that like my chickens and cats' food as well as plinking. I'll also be teaching my children to shoot with it as they come of age. I doubt I'll modify my gun beyond putting a scope on it as I enjoy shooting more than tinkering.

I have found a used Mrod for sale; the guy is semi-local to me. He also joined recently but by searching the forums it seems he picked up the Mrod in a storage unit he bought so he doesn't know the history on it. It comes with an unspecified scope and a hill pump (and an expired SCBA bottle, which is probably just junk to me unless I can get it recertified).

Two questions:
Is the Mrod a good PCP beginner gun that will be reliable (with parts availability) for the long term?
After I am able to contact him (need 10 posts and a 10 day old account), what should I be on the lookout for?

new to the group

Hello
I had a bad start a couple weeks back with a defective notos, bad orings and missing parts but got it straightened out.
My gf has taken a liking to the notos , i can tell because she says whay are you shooting my rifle lol.
So I thought I would 1 up her and get my own rifle , another one anyways.
I have a couple add ons coming from saber tactical later in the week .
Im looking forward to some good ole family shooting in the future.
Great forum you have here, thanks.

N/A  I'm on a roll!!

I've posted about my issues with 2 of my DAR rifles. Well, I just got a new Beeman Underlever Bullpup in 0.25 cal and right out of the box the trigger doesn't work. It takes anywhere from 2 to 10 tries pulling the trigger to finally getting it to fire. I tried adjusting the trigger but still no good so it's going back for a refund. That makes the 7th air gun I've purchased in the last 2 years that has been defective in one way or another. Six of them were China made junk. I don't think I had these issues with guns I bought years ago. But then most of them were made in England, Germany and the US. QC seems to be a forgotten step in the manufacturing process.
