  • Question
Western Airguns  Magazine/slugs/pellets oh my

I have a sidewinder compact in .30 cal. So far I've found out the Predator polymags are too long had to nip the tips off to use them. And the FX hybrid slugs fit in the magazine little too snug or is it just right? Are these normal things people gotta watch out for any semi auto, or is it just the way it rolls for these sidewinder mags?

Results  PSA FT Results - Sept 14, 2025 (AAFTA and Silhouette)

This month the Green course was along the ATV road between the clubhouse and the competition range with lanes shooting through tunnels in the woods, and a few lanes in the open field, and a standing lane in the ravine. The Red course was in the ravine with shots running along and across the drainage ditch. The Blue course was on the range. We had a few new shooters this month; we welcome them to Palmyra Sportsmen's Assoc and to the Field Target game.

The AAFTA three course average difficulty was 28.9 (Moderate) and the individual course sections had the following average difficulties (not including environmental factors):
  • Blue - 28.8 (moderate)
  • Green - 28.9 (moderate)
  • Red - 29.0 (moderate)
Scores - Each course is a possible 20, and the 3 course total is of a possible 60. Ties are not broken.

FX  FX Angled Manometer Bracket Issue/Problem

I installed the FX angled manometer bracket on my M3, along with a Sekhmet Gen-2 255Pro 300 bar Sekhmet High Pressure Digital Gauge. At first everything was fine and I could see the 2nd regulator pressure drop and refill after every shot on the Sekhmet digital gauge. However, after awhile the gauge just started showing a "frozen" 2nd regulator set pressure, there was no drop after a shot.

I installed a different analog gauge in the angle manometer bracket, and the same thing occurred, no pressure drop after a shot.

Reading through another thread there was a mention of FX sometimes installing a chunk of o-ring under the grub screw (to stop leaks) that is removed to install the angled manometer bracket.

So I degassed the M3 and removed the bracket and left the hole open. I slowly screwed back in the bottle with my thumb partially covering the open hole (I'd recommend using a rag or something instead of your thumb). At first there was a slow escape of air at that hole and then something came flying out and hit my thumb. I was unable to locate what actually came out of that hole, but after reassembly the 2nd reg gauge installed in the angled manometer bracket started working perfectly.

Hope this helps others that may be experiencing strange readings on gauges installed in the FX angled manometer bracket.

Huben  Huben gk1 degassing advise

So there a few opinions on the best way to degass the gk1, one of which is the loosening of the fill probe valve at the base of the reservoir, the other is the degass torx screw at the top of the action, and the Gregor way of removing the back plate the spring and plastic washer and actually shooting the gun with a towel behind the receiver to catch the piston and closing valve.
my concern is how safe is the latter? I’ve done it a few times and just recently noticed a nick on the front edge of the closing valve, I think it’s from the valve violently hitting the sear as it exits, anyone tried this method? Should not be doing this? According to the tube videos including the one by Gregor it is the best way to degass!
I bought a new valve and getting ready to replace it just wondering if I should be using a different method of degassing the gun. I do shoot it down to 100 bars before using this method, but the cylinder and valve shooting out of the gun backwards seems a bit violent.
the first recommendation might damage the o-ring and I only have one backup.
the second way is not recommended by anyone as it is risking irreperable damage to the fragile thread and tiny torx bolt.

$89 FX Maverick part from Spain(Europe Airguns) to NY $140 Tariff

I'm not mad at having to pay a tariff, but I thought it would be 20%-30% at most 50%. Over a 100% tariff caught me by surprise. All I can find for the tariff rate from Spain is 25%. UPS doesn't break the tariff/upcharge down except that they had a $14 brokerage fee and the rest was a government charge. I'm hoping to see a breakdown when I receive the package and maybe it was a mistake, if not....welp, I guess this is just a heads up to everyone else.

Is anyone familiar with verifying the correct price to be charged for a tariff from a country?

PCP Rifle  NLA Taipan Vet 2 Standard

GUN MAY HAVE SLOW LEAK, WILL RENEW AD ONCE FIGURED OUT SO ALL POTENTIAL TRADES ON HOLD TILL I FILL GUN AGAIN AND BE SURE.

Bought this from Tony in Sept 2024 and have shot 3 tins of pellets thru it. I keep flip flopping on if I want to sell this or not, its a awesome gun very accurate, great trigger and balance but its my last bull pup and I just don't use it enough to justify keeping it prefer traditional stocked guns.
Has the Donny FL external hammer spring adjuster and a set of sling swivels I installed that look good not botched up. I also adjusted trigger as it was not great when received. This is the only pic I have at the moment but can provide more if needed. Gun gets around 74 shots per fill shooting 18 gr FX around 912-920 fps. Asking 1,000 pl act shipping or best offer.
Prefer to sell but might trade for regulated Daystate Huntsman Revere(changed just had Huntsman) in .22. Any questions feel free to ask.
Might also trade for a FX MK2 Crown .25 w/500mm barrel or shorter.

Dont know why picture looks like crap but will get better pics if any interest.

The Tipping Point

It's a thing
You are trying to get your field target build to be at a "certain" comfortable weight to shoulder and handle in the sticks and especially in the forced lanes.... up until, It gets so light, that the big ol scope on top becomes "too" heavy and you reach the Tipping Point.
Also known as that balance point where the gun might want to just flop over from vertical to horizontal while your addressing the lane.

I recently helped a guy set up a .177 Blackwolf HFT rig in the very light carbon painted wood? stock. He's 80 years young and needed or wanted a lightweight set up.
Goal <9.5 lbs scoped.
The only FT gun i have ever set up, besides the Blackwolf that came close to this desired weight was the Crosman HFT Challenger when scoped with a Sightron S-Tac 4-20x50. This same scope on the Blackwolf yielded an all in weight of just < 10 lbs. Ahhhhh!
But, and here lay the problem.... once you have the right airgun, and you think you have the right scope, it needs to be a scope that works for YOUR eyes.
The S-Tac was a no go for this older gentleman so we played with several Athlons, and Nightforce variations that he liked the reticle on.

Every time we found the perfect for him reticle, it was within a scope that once mounted was (to me and him) too heavy and made the gun tippy in the sticks or very prone to canting.

Grrr, says I....

I think he will have to deal with buying a heavier stock, or using a scope with a reticle not to his absolute liking or finding a way to put more weight below the center of gravity and maybe slightly aft of the trigger guard to stay away from the tipping point.

Thoughts..... Compromise required me thinks?

BCSA (Binghamton, NY) - September 13th, 2025 Match Report

Broome County Sportsmens Association (BCSA) Field Target Match Report

Another match done at BCSA! Carbon copy of last months match. A dry warm day with light wind and low humidity. The canopies were not set up again this time and the trees provided us plenty of shade.

We had 18 people on hand for this match which was a 60 shot rifle match followed by a 40 shot Pistol Field Target match. We had 2 new to BCSA competitors on hand to join us for the match. Laura Setikas Dyke and Alan Dyke joined us for the day since their daughter is attending college in the area. They will be back again! We had some treats too….Karen Reis brought along some lemon poppy seed muffins for everyone to enjoy……Thanks Karen!

The course of fire for the rifle match was 10 lanes with 3 targets per lane, 2 shots per target, with the shooting order being left, middle, right. There was also the usual 1 standing lane and 1 kneeling lane. Due to the upcoming Pyramyd Air Cup, the course was setup a bit more difficult. The stats for the 60 shot course are as follows:

The breakdown for the percentage of targets based on difficulty was:

The wind was pretty light and the skies were bright for the rifle portion of the day. As usual, there were targets in light unprotected areas and targets in dark protected areas along with everything in between! Brian VanLiew and Karen Reis were able to lock in high scores for the day with a 51 out of 60. Brian in Open PCP and Karen in Hunter PCP . The second highest score for the day was a 50 out of 60 from Stephan Hottenrott in Hunter PCP. The rest of the pack followed behind and all the scores can be seen below.

One quick cold line was called due to a string coming off. The quick clip decided it wanted to take a break. Reclipped and all was well so the match continued on.

After the conclusion of the rifle match, while the scores were tallied, everyone jumped in and helped pick up and pack away the rifle targets and pull the strings for the Pistol targets. As always, Thank You All, the help is greatly appreciated!

Pistol Field Target Time!

The course of fire was 10 lanes having 2 targets per lane with one of those being a standing lane. The course stats were as follows.

1757846074049.png

8 people participated this time around. 7 people competed in pistol while Doug Rogers took the opportunity to get in some kneeling practice.

1757846105885.png
1757846117842.png

Had a quick cold line call due to a string getting caught under the hinge bolt on the target.

Nathan Thomas took first with a 34/40 followed by the Brians, Wagner & Vanliew with 33s.

After the match was completed, everyone jumped in and we made quick work of packing away all the targets! As always, all the help is GREATLY GREATLY appreciated!

Sheridan  Trigger sear-engagement adjuster for Sheridan

Having recently rekindled my half-century love affair with Sheridan pump-rifles by horse-trading for a 70s vintage Blue Streak and a much more recent vintage Sheridan/Benjamin C9A series Silver Streak, thought I'd not only spread a little more Sheridan love (despite there being ample 'round these parts lately), but a related trigger modification that is equally applicable to many guns. Although both Streaks are in excellent condition, the SS wasn't building pressure. Thankfully a buddy reseals Sheridan pumpers, and the SS returned home yesterday, healthy.

1757887814859.png

The C9A apparently being the last Silver Streak to be walnut stocked and equipped with steel triggers and trigger-guards, it is the last Sheridan/Benjamin that interests me. Come Crosman, they were economized with "walnut-stained hardwood" stocks, and plastic trigger blocks.

But the C9A model being discontinued in 2012, its trigger action reflected the TLP gripping American gun manufacturers at the time (Trigger Liability Paranoia). In other words, a very LAWYERLY trigger action.🤮 The trigger action was laughably heavy, with excessive creep.

Installing a much lighter trigger spring couldn't have been easier. Dealing with the trigger-creep, not so easy. But also not exactly rocket science; especially given I've applied this modification, or variations of it, to several simple triggers to totally transform them. This photo should be pretty self explanatory-

Sher adjuster.jpg

But if not... The #8-32 allen-head sear-adjusting screw SIMPLY adjusts to limit how far the trigger returns forward during cocking, thereby how much the sear engages with the hammer/striker. The screw threads through a small piece of angle-aluminum stock cut to fit into the trigger-guard inletting in the stock, under the trigger-guard itself. With a bit of moly-lube on the sear-engagement surfaces, the trigger now breaks crisply and creep-free at 24 ounces. 😁
