Scope and Rifle leveling - flashlight and gravity.

After talking about re-zeroing my scope, some suggested that my scope itself might not be level. @TimeRabbit mentioned the flashlight technique.

Oddly enough, I noticed a video about exactly that on YouTube a few days ago. Being the old, retired guy I am, I was up at 3am this morning and found the video.

After watching, I went out to the garage (where I used my new rifle rest for the first time) and after leveling the rifle, I checked the scope. Of course it was a fraction off (not too bad for an eyeballing job though).

So I pulled the tops of the scope rings - making sure several times the rifle stayed level - and adjusted the scope with the screws to the rings attached, but loose.

Once the crosshairs were true, I checked the rifle leveling several more times, and slowly tightened each screw (4) until everything was snug. When they were tight, I checked the level a final time, and called it good.

Now, I really do have to zero the rifle all over again.

Help with Benjamin Marauder Tuning

I need some help with a basic Marauder tune that will get me at least 30 good shots in the 880 fps range with a 16 grain pellet. I've had a couple of gen1 Marauders years ago and was able to get 35 to 40 good shots. 30 shots with an ES of 12 and SD of 3.3. Today I was helping a friend do a basic tune on his new Marauder (unregulated) and was barely able to get 20 shots with 16 grain pellets. The transfer port was set to two turns out and the hammer spring preload was set to 2 1/2 turns out. The average fps was 875 fps. I was only able to get 20 shots before the fps started to drop of sharply. Have they made some kind of drastic changes to the air delivery system or am I missing something. Oh, I left the hammer throw at the factory setting. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

FX  Impact m3 leak from mystery spot ?

Got a leak from the add on 2nd reg gauge , I believe I got it from Huma but not sure the manufacturer . It is the little oval hole where the pencil points to . I’ve looked at schematics and still can’t find the source . I’ve already replaced the oval shaped O-ring behind the gauge plate between where it attaches to the rifle frame .
Anybody had this one go bad before - you might save me a lot of searching .

Benchrest Questions

If I wanted to do some indoor benchrest at 25 meters after Mike mentioned it as a good way to look at the rifle, your form on the bench against seated in an Open division position.

Where is the 25 meters measured from (face of bench to target)?

I grabbed the WRARB 25m target and will be printing it at 100% but on 11x17 cardstock with some edge clipping (don't really need a lot of sighters indoors). Which plug do I use and where do I get it?

TY in advance.

HW/Weihrauch  Lost….But not forgotten

Well over a year ago I ordered a HW30 .22 Stainless, as well a HW77 .20 and a HW98 .25. The 30 came in just before Christmas 24. Right when there was first talks of tariffs. I wanted those out ASAP.
At the same time I made a trade for 6 rifles for my collection of autographs, (hockey players) I saved up while in business for over 40 years now. Great timing.
AoA told me at the time the 30 came in, the 98 was no longer available. But a new 95 walnut stainless, not even listed yet is available . I made the first sale on this 95. And I bought a HW97kt Walnut .20. Spending 1/2 of my trade. The 30 will have company coming home.
The 3 left on January 3rd to Airgun Archery Fun in Saskatchewan, then to me. I can’t wait.
3 weeks go by. Nothing, call AoA they track to LA customs. OK. Few more weeks go by. Nothing, still in LA. Another week goes by and it leaves for the border. Right on. Then like Houdini it disappears. 5 1/2 months later I still cry myself to sleep every night.
‘Then I get an e-mail from Wes at Airgun Archery Fun that he just paid the duties on the guns. Shut up. For 2 more weeks I wait and today they made it home. Unbelievable

Man is my head swimming. 6 months to the day. 5 1/2 months to the border. Had it in 2 weeks. Wes is the best.
Next time I’m going to ask for pony express. Crow
Hopefully have scopes and shoot them tonight.

Other  .177 PCP maximum grain size I can shoot for pellets and slugs?

I'm quite new to the game and have bought my first airgun, PCP PX120 x3 from a local company.

My confusion is that the company only claims pellet performance of their own pellets, on YouTube there are videos that are showing shooters shooting slugs of other manufacturers with it. Grain size 13.43 at 50mtr, but they only discuss groupings, not power or any other technical things.

So I'm curious, here is technical spec sheet of the gun, since there are many very experienced people here, I want to ask if what should be maximum grain I can expect to shoot with it in pellet and slugs too.

If I can shoot higher grains from what company recommends, what would be drop/increase in power and velocity, accuracy that I can expect at the give distance (30mtr, 50mtr and 80 mtr etc)?

Right now I do not have equipment to do this test myself, and I'm also little afraid of ruining barrel of new gun, an experienced person may be able to tell of any pitfalls in advanced.

Please help ^^

JSB MRD's...I know I'm late to the game

Been working on a tune for my Wildcat 22 for pellets and found the heavy liner doesn't like 18gr pellets. Then I tried 25gr MRD's and wow! things started to really look up. I've read a bit on here about them and they like high speed, over 900fps, preferably more and they still shoot at 100 yards. I know, at least some will question this, until they try them.

I was mulling over ballistic calculators with this pellet and fast twist barres, ie 1"18 ish. It kind of makes sense, that if a pellets loses velocity faster than it loses spin, it get all wonky at long distance. BUT, if designed properly and shot fast enough to still retain forward speed, then it is better off at long distance than say a pellet that is shot at 875fps and loses a ton of velocity at 100 yards while the spin is still quite high.

Long way of saying, get the velocity up and the spin will not be excessive at distance.

These are really cool days to be an airgunner, that's for sure. I know the pellet has to be designed correctly, you can't just increase the velocity of any pellet high enough that it will work like this. You also need weight, that makes sense that the MRD's aren't like say 18gr or whatever. Interesting stuff.

Who all goes to the trouble of baiting chipmunks?

Like I do?

Peanuts mixed with peanut butter ... I think the smell of the peanut butter is stronger than just peanuts, and unlike when they eat the nuts and move around, they sit perfectly still while they lick the pb.

Here's my bait set up (the white cloths are there for pass-throughs, and are piled thick. They will catch a full-on hit without a problem.

Retiring Dad's rifle rest.

About 20+ years ago, my dad started developing Parkinson's Disease and as a result, he had difficulty holding still to sight in his scoped 1950's Sheridan Blue Streak.

He took scrap wood, metal fittings and other odds & ends and made a rifle rest. One that cradles the forearm and butt of the rifle, taking the human error out of the equation.

When I got my Benjamin 392 about 6 years ago, I used the rest to zero it as well.

Dad's design worked ok, but it was overall too low (especially the butt rest), and he'd put 'arms" on the back of the rest, which made 'shouldering' the rifle difficult, but it did work.

About a month ago, when my passion for air rifles rekindled, I wanted to re-zero the Benji, and got the rest from mom's house (since technically it's my rest now). I had to use 4×4's and other pieces if wood to position the rest so I could use it, and thought about altering it to be more functional.

Those thoughts didn't linger very long, as it's still DAD'S rest, so I’d decided to build a new one using his as a model. I did it like he did, scrap boards and misc things from around the house including a good size chunk if carpet from the bedroom floor (I took it from under the bed, so the wife will never know 🤣 ).

The only new parts I had to buy, were two 3/8 × 6 carriage bolts, two 3/8 t-nuts and some glue to attach the carpeting for padding for the rifle.

The end result is a much shorter, lighter and easier to transport rest, with height adjustable forearm AND butt rests. It also had taller and wider 'feet' for better stability.

I finished it yesterday, but haven't had a chance to try it out. Here are pictures of both rests, with my 392, to show the differences.

What do you think?

How many pumps for horizontal scope zeroing?

I recently missed two chipmunks and after checking the zero on my scope, found that I was hitting about 1" right at 20 feet.

The noise from 8 pumps might annoy my neighbors, but I want to at least push the pellets hard enough to get an accurate zero (horizontally).

Would 3 or 4 pumps in my 392 be enough to get an accurate horizontal zero?
