N/A  Alright I'm hooked, send it on a higher end rifle?

Having no experience with PCP air rifles and a penchant for questionable impulse buys I picked up a Notos and a compressor a couple of months ago. Thankfully it panned out because I've had a ridiculous amount of fun with this little air rifle! I had intended to modify the heck out of it, but aside from boring the air transfer port to 3.6mm I've decided I like it the way it is and will keep it as my light and fun plinker. (If anyone's got a line on some barrel O-rings that don't cost 15 bucks for 2 that'd be awesome).

Alas im a "shoot tiny groups at far distances" guy at heart and an avid squirrel hunter. While I love the Notos I understand it has its limitations. Unfortunately I have analysis paralysis in the sea of mid range to high end rifles that all seem to shoot sub moa on youtube. I'm currently in a position where the mid range is attractive for the savings but I'm afraid to lose the barrel lottery, and frankly parts availability concerns me. Meanwhile spending $1600 on a nice rifle is a chunk of change and I don't want to be afraid to drag the thing around the woods with me.

So what are your thoughts and experiences? Send it? Or buy a mid range gun and work my way into it?

N/A  Springers and how far above Sea level you are….

IMG_2457.jpeg
IMG_2457.jpeg
So I bought my HW95n from AoA in AZ.
AZ IS 4100ft above sea level
And where im
At in Iowa we are at 1100ft above sea level.

Is there a chart to determine the difference in power output based on Elevation.

AoA cronied it at 750fps at their 4100ft
How much more can I expect at 1100 ft?

I will chrony it here one day when I have time.

Air Venturi  New Air venturi avenger not filling at all

I bought a new avenger and after degassing I was ready to full to adjust regular. I hooked up my compressor with a quick connect and attached to the nipple. Sat for 5 min with it running and both gauges have not moved at all. When I disconnect the hose air is indeed running. There are no leaks at quick connect to ripple. So i have no idea where the air is going. Please help I have no idea what to do and really want to start using my new toy

1st squirrel hunt of the year with my 10yr old son

Well, it's too early for me for squirrels hunting but the boy wanted to go. I like the leaves gone and much colder for myself. My son is off for fall break and wanted to take his 10/22 I put together for him so off we went. He slept in and it's pretty windy here so wasn't expecting much. We hunted about 1 hr in 2 different spots but no action. It was still a great hunt. It's good to get my kid away from his phone and video games and just hang out together. I used the time to teach him about squirrels and calling them and what to look for. It's the little things you know him playing with a lady bug made my day. No squirrels for the pot but my day was perfect.

I took the 97 in 20

Sometimes they just get a pass.

As fall approaches ,I find myself less aggressive on taking the big Fox squirrels. They are scowering for food to prep for torpor. I find it provides me with a robust fresh group that make it through the Winter for spring breeding .. I refuse to not shoot the Reds/ Pine squirrels as they are active year round and are very damaging to my location..

This one walked out on that lone branch and we locked eyes.. I gave him a nod,and on he went.

Finally, a High Quality compact scope

Cameraland sent me an email introducing a new line of Geman scopes called GPO Centuri. These are compact (9.9 inches) and lightweight (20 oz) and cost less than $600. They are FFP (although I prefer SFP), illuminated reticle and focus down to 10 yards. All the features I've been looking for. I hope someone writes a review soon (Joe?).

Which Chrony for Benchrest?

I’m looking for opinions on the best chronograph for benchrest shooting. I used an FX Ballistic Chrony at the Pyramyd Benchrest Finals, but it didn’t work well—it picked up other shooters’ shots, missed mine, and then locked up my phone app. I could have adjusted the sensitivity, but I didn’t want to get distracted during the finals. I realized my poor performance in the second qualifying round was likely due to a change in velocity (I just eeked into the finals), which I fixed during the warm-up for the finals. Moving forward, I plan to mount a chrony on the side or bottom rail.

I have the original FX Pocket Chrony, which has been reliable, but I’m considering upgrading to the Garmin Xero. Many users report zero issues with the Xero. Has anyone used the Xero in a crowded benchrest setting? Any issues with interference or missed shots?

Other options I’m considering are the FX V2 Pocket Chrony and the Labradar LX. The FX V2 is cheaper (I don't mind using my phone for readings), but I’m unsure how it would perform in a congested benchrest environment. The Labradar LX is intriguing because it offers readings at 20 to 30 yards in addition to the 0-yard reading, which could be useful for BC calculations. However, I’ve heard it has issues with missed shots, similar to the original Labradar. Any experience with the Labradar LX in benchrest?

Any suggestions or experiences to share?

Thanks!

Traditional Rifle  SOLD Air Arms TX200 - .22 Like New

I bought this TX200 new from Pyramid Air. It is a .22 caliber. Beautiful walnut stock. I with a Vortek PG4 spring upgrade system ...

Frankly, there was no buzz or other issues with the OEM I just wanted to see how it works. I will include original OEM parts if a person wanted to go that route, but the Vortek is superior.

This rifle is in pristine condition. It has never left my house or deck. I've shot starlings and English Sparrows with it. It hits hard and is extremely accurate

I will include the Hawke scope and its box for an extra $100 (it is a 2x7 and perfect for this springer).

$625 without scope and $725 with scope. Please help with shipping for $25.

I take PP or Money Order.

First PM "I'll take it" gets it.

Amazing performance filling a 9L Acecare tank with a GX CS4!

Total time pumping to fill at 9L tanks was only 3 hours and 29 mins. This is 12.9L per minute when the specs on a CS4 is only 11L/min. A 17% better performance than expected. How can this be? I boosted the input pressure, starting at 10 PSI down to 2 PSI depending on the tanks pressure. I used a watt meter on the input to the power supply and kept the AC watts consumption of the power supply to <=480W by periodically lowering the input air pressure to the compressor as the tank's pressure rose. The water temp varied from 112 to 115.4F. The water was higher when the input watts were higher. Not a single drop of water from the vent tube. Vented once at 150 bar and then at the end at 300 bar. I used a small tampon type filter on the output with very small amount (less than 2cc) of silica beads with indicating color to check if water was going into the tank. No change in color of the beads! I have a large >1 quart silica desiccant filter at 90 PSI upstream from the input to the CS4. It was recently filled with new beads, all orange in color. At the end of filling the tank the top 1" of the filter is clearly green in color the rest of the 9+ inches are still orange.

I'm happy with the CS4 so far. If it last 200 hours runtime I would say it was a good value. I have about 8 hours on is so far. If it breaks tomorrow it was a bad value.

Huben  1st 2 shots with new Huben .177 GK1 V3

Just got it today and tried only 2 shots.

10.65 H&N 795 fps
7.4 Crosman 896 fps

Un-moderated the gun is way too loud to shoot too many times in my backyard. Anyone hearing it would think it was a real gunshot! If I shot a quick semi-auto string it surely would raise unwanted attention. Stock settings the GK1 is more powerful (and loud) than my .177 Vixen with a much longer barrel.

Next step 3d printing some moderators to tame the beast!

2nd card qualifier at EBR experience

I’ve got to say right up front. I had a wonderful experience at EBR this year. Everyone was very friendly and helpful the entire time. I’m already making plans to attend next year. But I’ll save my plans and experiences for a later post.
My 2nd qualifying card was quite a wonderful experience. As in the past, sat down with air full and magazines full. One difference this year. I wasn’t using the FX magazines. I elected to use my Montster magazine. Because it holds 30 shots in the .30 caliber. The clock was set and 30 minutes started. I began with shooting sighters, one shot, two shots, three shots and finally a forth shot. I was ready to move up. What happened next was crazy. I shot the next 25 shots nonstop, 29 shots total. I never stopped to fill my gun or my magazine. It happen so fast I hadn’t even realized that one magazine had completely completed my work.
When I stopped, I pulled the magazine out to safety up the gun. That’s when I realized what just happened. I shot the entire thing with out a magazine change. Opening the magazine, there was one pellets left. I turned around to show a friend. When the announcement came “don’t forget about the pellet challenge “..
I turned around and stuck the magazine with one pellet in the gun. And shot the pellet challenge.
I had just completed my 2nd round card with one magazine.
IMG_2945.jpeg

I scored a 232 and advanced on to finals.
In the end, I managed to finsh 3rd over all using my Montster magazine the entire time.

Theoben  Testing a seal adaptor for SLR 88 and the likes.

Ok ,got your attention now. MENTION SLR , eyes raise up..

So those who know ,know that ..
1. Theoben seals are like a fine women. … great when they are working ,but extremely hard to find
2. They tend to be soft and burn easily ( Probably from over psi for extra cowboy ft lbs)
3. One man has them and has a monoply on them and will not sell them UNLESS you send the gun to him .. oh yeah. THEY ARE let’s say $$$$ 🤬

4. AAAND , finely a poor design in my opinion. A soft cast seal that depends on a shoulder button inserted into the piston itself. I’m SORRY THEOBEN GUYS.. THERE ARE BETTER DESIGNS. Simple HW HEAD THAT TAKES A UNIVERSAL SEAL. 😉. ITS ,OK, Air Arms dropped the ball to,on their Pro Elite to. ( I’m firing lasers today 😆)
5. The Zepher or however it’s spelled. (Got to watch out for Karl now ) , DOES NOTHING for power . Nothing a standard cup seal wouldn’t do. Flame💥 …. I hear it now,, ” it’s for heat transfer”. …… “ it channels the magic air” ….. “it gives softer recoil”…..

If you believe that ,”I have some ocean front property in Arizona ”. GS . I’ll sell ya. 😆

SO , I’m testing a design I saw on a UK form that uses a 27.5 mm seal. ( fits the SLR AS IM SURE OTHERS WELL, EXCLUDING ELIMINATORS)
It’s a delrin plug with a tapped center with 4 legs that spread and grap the interior ledge on the piston.

This is a 12 ft lb gun, with light weight cocking and short stroke. Heats not a big issue . ( unless the power cowboys get their hands on a pump)

I am sure a O-Ring design would work well to. I’m not saying that if you have a factory gun this is a better Idea. It’s a work around without modifying anything on the gun,so as you can go back to 100% original if you want or find a factory seal.

For the record, If I owned this gun ,I would be shooting it weekly. I don’t watch them collect dust.. A TOOL unused is USELESS.

Am I planning on making them for sale. Nope. It was a work around until or ,IF ,THE OWNER WANTS TO GO BACK.

Just for you Theoben fans. I will do a post on the re build when complete. I’m doing full stock refinish and re- blue.

My new favorite cheap rings.... $40.

DISCOVERYOPT 30mm rings showed up today & was pleasantly surprised. There is some thin protective goo they put on the raw aluminum internal area. Easily removed though. I alcohol all my ring internal anyway. They are spec'd as 7075. The are matched & numbered. They have the torque sequence & torque lbs . The alignment pins from top cao to main body is new for me & like it.. For $40. I feel they would be hard to beat. I got alot of rings from high $ to not & most of the not's never make a home on my shooting devices. They seem to come in 30mm 34mm & 35mm & in 4 different height's .95-.97-1.26-1.45
My other favorite cheap rings were Athalon but I think I will just get these now while I can. They also come in nice case that hold the 2-spare screw bolts & torx wrench. Nothing rattling around smacking against each other in case. Just thought for $ 40 I should share this info.

Beeman  Beeman R1 .177 build

Ok,I had to get aproval before I posted from the owner.

This was a older BEAR on the side .177 that was built to shoot 10.3 pellets. Its been striped re blued a satin finish and a custom spring as well as top hat and new seals. Acording to the owner he is hitting 50 yard 3 inch spinners consistently.

Custom muzzle brake and hood sight set up for factory irons.

Refinish beech stock to a ebony finish and Satin re blue.

Pillars added to the forearm bolts.

Re choked and crowned.

Cocks as his words, “ like a Hw 50, but hits like a normal R1“

Stock was stripped, a iron oxide solution was used to water pop and dyed with black aniline dye.

A factory finish was the goal but black ebony .. Checkering was chased but sprayed to give factory look of original Beeman Goudy stocks.

15 ft lbs and fun gun to use. I Knew it was a shooter as I sighted with irons before shipping ..Holding three shot groups at 15 yards all touching and I’m NOT a iron sight guy.
