Whistle Pig DOWN!

It just so happened that yet another Groundhog decided to waddle 300 yards across the field, across the street, past the garden and under the trailer, almost exactly where the Cuz sat eating the same clover!

I came home from getting momma some cattle panels for her garden and an expensive stop at the Harbor Freight Parking Lot Sale and when I pulled into the yard, Mr. Pig was hightailing it to the pole barn. I unloaded the truck and grabbed the AEA Carbine and as I came around the wood boiler, I saw Mr. Pig sitting up and munching some yummy clover. I lined him up and decided to go back to the shop and grab the AEA Varmint as it is all set up for this.

The pig had moved and it took me a good couple of minutes to locate him as his nose and eyes came into profile in the grass. I had to hold off until I had confirmation and aimed for that spot between his ear and his eye.

POP!

The slug (NSA .25 36.2gr HP) traveling at 962fps, made a "POP" sound as it hit right where I was hoping it would land, about 53ish yards, off hand (I have been practicing a LOT!).

The slug entered, blew a large hole in the entrance (overpressure) and exited out the back, no slug was found.
:-[

Back story: I have been tracking this Piggy for the last week since I had friends over and we saw him waddling to the woods some 400 yards away. I took 3 offhand shots at him (100y, 175y & 225y) with the Varmint but the 15-20mph winds put the slugs 3-4 feet to the right and I DOPE'd the wind on the fourth shot but it passed cleanly under his belly. He jumped up like I had gut shot him then rolled over and trucked it for the woods!

I rolled him over after I got him and there is NO damage to his pelt at all! If I had tanning supplies, I would have saved this pelt, it's really gorgeous!

He sits on the Raven Alter now and I think I'll put the trail camera on it to see what takes it for a meal tonight.

Brash Red Squirrels…

On my backyard range, while plinking or target shooting on any given day the red’s present themselves quite nicely. See that sweet little cave to the left of the stump? That’s where a few live in my 61 yard berm, little suckers pose on pictured stump. I make those shots consistently on those black walnut husks. They also pose on my forty and 50 yard stations. And while at times I put the crosshairs on them, they get a pass, for now.

Another issue with my fx impact m3

When I go to load a nsa 33.6 gr slug. It's like the slug is getting jammed right in the transfer port. And upon pushing the slugs out with a brass rod the slugs have this indentation on them, like a ring mark. And when pushed the side lever closed it had a lot of resistance to it. And when I pulled the trigger the gun let out a huge hissing sound because of the jammed slug
I keep running into issues with this gun and I'm at my wits end with it. It's one thing after another. Does anyone know how to fix this? Or what is happening?

M3 or Maverick sniper

First pcp gun, long time powder burner. Trying to get a .22 with options to upgrade in the future, without going insane on price. Mostly plinking 150yd targets with occasional squirrel, rabbit, pigeon. Possibly turkey if i can nail my shots right. Which one should I go for? Or is there one that I have completely missed? Like I said, trying to get the best I can for 2k, and leave the option for bigger caliber upgrades in the future.

Spring Piston vs. Gas Ram: Which is Your Preferred Powerplant?

As airgun enthusiasts, we've all experienced the distinct characteristics that different powerplants bring to the table. Today, let's focus on Spring Piston and Gas Ram systems.

Spring Piston airguns have been around for quite a while, and many swear by their tried-and-true technology. Meanwhile, Gas Ram (or Gas Piston) airguns bring a new flavor to the mix, with claims of greater consistency and lesser recoil.

Let's dive deeper:

  1. Do you have a preferred powerplant between Spring Piston and Gas Ram, and why?
  2. What are the main differences you've noticed in terms of shooting experience between these two systems?
  3. Do you find one or the other to be more reliable or durable in the long run?
  4. Which brands/models stand out for each powerplant?
  5. How do the maintenance requirements differ, in your experience?
Looking forward to your insights.

Bullysyclone Wylie Kanz moderators... throw everything else in the trash.

I had the pleasure to test out one of these "Wylie Kanz" moderators designed, machined, and built by one of our very own.. @Bullysyclone

The moderators are named after his Basenji (or barkless dog as they're called (how fitting right?) .... Wylie

When I first got the moderator , I wanted to post something but I had not used it yet but that's the impression it hit me with right off the bat, the I've got to tell and show everyone impression!

The craftsmanship, tolerances, colors, and materials are all top notch. 👌

It's machined I believe he said .003 over .22, not like the off the boat Chinese moderators which are typically the next caliber up. The other thing is, they're chambered, his own design, probably could touch on that more himself if you were to ask that way I don't butcher it up.

I would have thought the box was empty had I not purchased some evol tools off John as well, this can is LIGHT! AND YES, that is real carbon fiber, no fake wrap nonsense.

Today I finally tested it.

I brought down my hps which is humming redesigns at 50 fpe , I brought down my hps factory can which is hollow, the Minis can which is baffled and then the Wylie Kanz moderator.

It is easily 10 times quieter (EDITED FOR THE ABSOLUTE FOLK, I cannot actually quantify/scale the improvement as the decibel meter app I have been using has been wonky) than the factory hps can and substantially more quiet than the mini!!! It's also shorter than both! It simply turned a 50 fpe .22 into a whisper. (Science states that a change in DB by the count of 10 from a given number is 10 times louder, this IS SCIENCE, this IS FACT. This is a way of counting or measuring something that increases rapidly, or exponentially. So every increase of 10 dB on the decibel scale is equal to a 10-fold increase in sound pressure level (SPL) which is what Db measures). Near silence is 0 dB but a sound measured at 10 dB is actually 10 times louder, If a sound is 20 dB, that's 100 times louder than near silence.)

If anyone is looking for a top notch moderator this is the one to buy, all my rifles will be getting one and thats fact.... oh did I mention the threads?! Good lord I could sit and just thread this thing off and on its adapter all day, you can tell that care is taken in machining when these things are made, it's clear as day.

The ones he will be producing are aluminum and carbon fiber, I've attached some pics at the end.

EDIT: FOR THR RECORD, My 110c 0db made my evol mini louder than it was using the factory moderator.

Airgun Calibers: From .177 to .50 and Beyond - What's Your Pick?

One of the critical choices we make as airgun shooters is the caliber of our weapon. The range is wide, from the standard .177 and .22 to larger calibers like .25, .30, .357, .45, .50, and beyond.

Each caliber brings its own strengths and potential drawbacks, and the "right" choice often depends on your intended use, be it hunting, target shooting, pest control, or plinking.

Let's discuss:

  1. What's your preferred caliber, and why did you choose it?
  2. How does your choice of caliber affect your shooting performance and experience?
  3. If you have used different calibers, what have been your observations?
  4. Any specific brands/models that shine in certain calibers?
  5. What is the future of airgun calibers - will we see larger calibers becoming more common?
Eager to hear your thoughts.

PCP rifle recommendation under 36"

I am thinking about getting a PCP air rifle in 22 caliber (unless I should go bigger?) this year once out backyard fence goes up. Can anyone recommend a PCP pellet rifle under 35.75" (to fit in my safe) overall length? I'd like it to be quiet as well so the barrel needs to be threaded.

I had in mind to get a benjamin marauder but that's far too long in length. The furthest distance in my back yard is around 90-100 feet. I'd like it to be capable of 1" groups or less at that range if I do my part. Ill say I don't have a budget but as my first PCP, I don't want to spend too much because I don't know how much I'll shoot. If I have to spend more for quality and the ability to get parts and better customer service, that's fine. I don't think I need a FX $1500 rifle.

I don't believe any youtube recommendations much since imo a lot are paid for advertising.

This will be for back yard plinking and small game. Rabbits/raccoons are the biggest animals.

I plan to use a hand pump at first but from what I read here, that gets old quick. If I somehow start shooting a lot, I'll do an electronic pump. I do not mind buying the rifle or optic used but I'm not ready to purchase right now.

Feel free to be honest and tell me things I don't want to hear. Thoughts.....?

Look-alike firearms Rule Changes

Important!!!

Take Action Now! 📢

Step 1: Click the link in description to visit the government comment website.

Step 2: Leave a respectful comment urging the Consumer Product Safety Commission to stop the "fast track"

You can copy and paste the text in the description use that for your comment. 👇

https://www.regulations.gov/document/CPSC-2023-0021-0001

The undersigned opposes the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s proposed Direct Final Rule in Docket No. CPSC-2023-0021. As written, the effect of the Commission’s proposed rule would have significant and unnecessary economic impact on the undersigned and all in the air-soft industry. The Regulatory Flexibility Act (AFA), 5 U.S.C. 601-612 does apply and requires the Commission to prepare an analysis under 5 U.S.C. 603, 604. Without comment from the industry, the proposed Direct Final Rule would be inappropriate and unacceptable without changes.

The Commission’s stated basis for the Direct Final Rule Process is that the new 16 CFR Part 1272 contains no substantive changes from regulations in effect now for more than 30 years. The reason for the new 16 CFR Part 1272 is that recent federal legislation has transferred oversight and enforcement of the regulation from the Department of Commerce to the Commission. Because the Consumer Product Safety Act requires certain certifications for products subject to regulations enforced by the Commission (see Supplementary Information, Paragraph G in the docket entry), the new, proposed 16 CFR Part 1272 would unnecessarily impact the air-soft industry negatively, substantively and financially.

The subject regulation was enabled by 15 U.S.C. § 5001 which imposes certain marking requirements on “look-alike firearms.” Look-alike firearms include “air-soft guns firing nonmetallic projectiles.” 15 U.S.C. § 5001 (c). While the undersigned have long complied with this statute and 16 CRR Part 1272, there has been no requirement for any general product certifications (GCC). Now, apparently, there would be such a requirement. See Supplementary Information, Paragraph G in the docket entry.

Because the Commission states in the subject docket entry that the Commission would be requiring GCCs for air-soft guns, the undersigned and the industry request an opportunity to comment under the Administrative Procedure Act (APA). See generally, 5 U.S.C. 551-559. The undersigned and the industry request that opportunity to address whether GCCs for air-soft guns under 16 CFR Part 1272 is necessary. It is readily apparent upon visual examination whether an air-soft gun complies with 16 CRR Part 1272 marking requirements. GCCs are not necessary.

The undersigned believe the Commission is also required to conduct a flexibility analysis under 5 U.S.C. 603, 504. Many in the industry are small businesses.

The undersigned also state that they and others in the industry are not equipped to provide GCCs for their air-soft products, in the near future, particularly those that would comply with the legal requirements. See, e.g., 15 U.S.C. 2063 (g). Many of their air-soft products are in transit, in inventory, with distributors, and in retail stores.

Accordingly, the undersigned request the Commission withdraw the proposed direct final rule. The undersigned appreciate and understand the Commission’s approach and requests the Commission consider excepting air-soft guns from any requirement for GCCs.

Thank you for your consideration.

I'm on fence with RAW hm1000x -Evol- for the 100 yard gig & I seriously dislike shrouds.

Im in a few days I'm purchasing or $ commitment to a dedicated 100 yard only airgun. I have a AGT Uragan in .22 compact for pest duty & .25 full size for 100y. I have shot sub moa w/ pellets but I'm ready for something different to try. I have talked to Martin on a RAW being built slightly differant then offered & will know about that soon. I dislike carbon wraps & really dislike shrouds. I shoot the .25 Uragan bare.. I would go Evol if they didn't do the shroud thing.. & again I dislike them that bad. Also single grub screws for barrel retainment don't do it for me & at least looks like RAW uses 3. I much would prefer a threaded into action gig but doesn't seem to many do that. Are there any other then AAA Evol that are threaded without shroud systems. ?
Thanks Joe

Theoben Rapid 100yds

So, I took this Rapid on trade from an extremely nice gentleman. And All I can say is "WOW"! Its beautiful to the eye, gets a high shot count with 500cc bottle and being regulated, and shoots as well as it looks.

4 shot group with Crossman Premier 14.3 lubed and unsorted with magazine. 100yds!

My final conclusions about PCP's.

Well, after having bought more PCP's that I should had along years, these are my personal conclusions in regard of the rifles I own and have owned:

1.- Buying cheap rifles do not prevent you to ending spending more money.
2.- There are ONLY three air rifle makers that IMO are ABSOLUTELY reliable (quality and accuracy at very long range):

a) Daystate;
b) Airgun Technology; and
c) Western Airguns with the sidewinder.

3.- Of the three above mentioned, the only one that indistinctly will shoot perfectly pellets and slugs are the rifles made by Airgun Technology (Dayatate and sidewinders shoot perfectly pellets).

I hope at least one member of this forum take into consideration my conclusions in order to get to spend less money than the one I had to be able to get to these conclusions.

If no one takes into consideration my conclusions, then at least they could have in mind that were warned.

PCP Rifle  SOLD Taipan Veteran Standard .22

SOLD to H2Okenny, pending payment.

Selling my Taipan Veteran Standard .22 which I purchased new. It’s in as new condition with the exception of a faint bump mark that occurred inside my crowded safe. I just need to thin out the space to make room for an incoming BR rifle. This rifle is extremely accurate and has a dream trigger set to break at 3 ounces. I’ve added a picatinny bottom rail and a 3D printed cheek rest. Comes with all original documentation, single shot tray and 2 magazines. Orange paint dots mark fill port opening and fill pressure window. Replaced the barrel clamp bolts with SS bolts.

  • My tuning notes:
  • Turn HS in until velocity peaks
  • Back off HS 3-5% to find the knee
    • Peaks at 963 w/ 18’s
    • 963 x .97 = 934
    • 964 x .95 = 915
  • Now tuned to 915, w/18’s
  • 65 shots, 250>120 bar
  • AA 18’s are the most accurate pellet

PayPal preferred F&F or add 3.5% to cover fees, money order or personal check (shipped after clearing). I have lots of positive feedback here so purchase with confidence.

No trades or low ball offers. $900 Shipped and insured in continental US.

Shooting at the range

I was shooting at the range today and there was several people shooting, someone wanted to go down range so they asked us if we could go cold and everyone was good with that, I was 2 lanes down from a person that was doing something with his gun, I politely said that I was going to go down range and would he put his gun down, was I wrong to ask him to do that, I get up from the bench and stand back if I don’t need to go down range
