Shake awake scopes

I've committed this blunder several times now. With my scopes with illuminated reticle, I forget to turn off the illumination. Yes, I try to remember but at times between excitement, conversations, reloading, phone, and family happenings. I did a search on the internet and my net kungfu is not strong at all. A lot of red dot stuff. I did find something from PA. What is out there for shake awake scope options? Why wouldn't this be a feature to enable on most illuminated scopes? If holosun can jam that feature into little tiny red dots, why not illuminated scopes?

Bitten by the BUG? The airgun bug that is!

As the title states, I have been bitten by the bug. I have been a shooter since 9 years old and of course, I had a BB gun that would shoot pellets, but not like this!! Here is how it all started, see, we have my wife to blame for this after all.

The misses comes home with a bird feeder. Great, I love that idea, and birds are so pleasant to watch and listen to - along with our windchimes and general outdoor noises. So she hangs the bird feeder on an existing eyelet in the ceiling of the front porch and fills it up. It took no time at all for the little birdies to start coming around and it took even less time for the squirrels to figure out we have the best feed in the area. It was "cute" at first, right? No. Not at all. Tree rats must go!!! One of the climbed the screen on the front window and decided to relieve himself of his full bladder all over my window. The next day I walked outside and there were 8 squirrels in my front yard/porch area like they own the place! Well, we have all been down that road, right? The wife doesn't want me to kill the squirrels and she doesn't want to give up the bird feeding - needless to say, we don't have a squirrel problem any more and she still has her feeders. We both won! She gave me the greenlight on the dispatching once she heard them from the basement, stomping around on the porch. She said "what's that?!" and I looked at her and said..."the enemy".

I did NOT know I would end up with a full-blown addiction that has landed me with 6 air rifles/pistols in the short span of 3 months. All but the Notos being "high-end" rifles. Airmaks, FX, Western, Leishy, Huben and my cheap Notos (which of course, I had to modify to my liking...). All of them being outfitted with moderators, bipods and optics. Next on the list is a better compressor and a tank for trips to friends and families properties.

Needless to say, I have really been enjoying the heck out of these guns, and we no longer have a varmint issue at the house! I have actually been thinking about reaching out to some local farmers and friends of mine that own property to see if they need someone to help them get rid of their nuisance animals as well, simply because I enjoy it that much! The hunt is real, and my state says GET RID OF THEM ALL!!

Thank you for reading, I hope you all have a blessed day!

How much of an issue is moisture filling a rifle w/ a CS4?

I plan to get a CS4i here in a couple weeks. I don’t really plan to fill tanks with it and just fill the rifle direct. I plan to keep it in the house and fill rifles in the house in an air conditioned environment. It will be used to top off rifles from around 2000psi to 3000psi. Based off this, and my limited experience with a newly purchased GX E-L2, I am guessing it will fill the rifle in a couple of minutes and never build up any real heat (So I assume not much condensation or moisture) and filters shouldn’t be much of a concern. Am I correct in my thinking? I do have a new, big, gold tuxing filter with the tan beads I have never used. I could easy add that to the mix but it would take longer to fill the rifle and therefore build up more heat/condensation. The other option would be to get a smaller inline filter that would have little effect on run time but at least have something just in case. That is the direction I am thinking now. Just curious what y’all think.

N/A  Table upgrade

Last week I stopped in the air gun shop as usual and scored a scope for a rifle on order. I see this big box by the door, but go home with my scope and rings. While working on my project all week I’m thinking about that box. In it a shooting table. This week I go there and the box is mine. A little upgrade.
I was using a Stable table. I added the feet, which I got from a 5x10 Brunswick pool table.
IMG_9409.jpeg
I’ve put hundreds of hours on this table.
This one might be a delux Stable table.
IMG_9411.jpeg
The big difference is a double gusset on each leg, a pivoting foot and of course the top. Also each leg has adjustment, the older only one.
IMG_9410.jpeg
And here’s the difference in the two. And finally christening it with an HW 77 .25. Really like the wing that holds your arm.
IMG_9412.jpeg
definitely more rigidity.
i’m gonna put the other table on the other side of my porch which is 40 feet away and will give me a different view on there range. Also if someone pops in, it’s nice to have two tables. Crow

PCP Rifle  SOLD WTT

I have a new Huben K1 in .22 I would consider trading. I have arthritis in my hands and have a hard time loading the magazine. I paid about $ 1800 I would consider a Daystate rifle in .22 or maybe a .25. It is the synthetic stock by the way. I have a little cash if I trade up. Let me know what you have. Thanks

AEA  The Pellet Shop is fantastic to deal with !

I very recently bough an AEA SF Compact in .22 from The Pellet Shop and after it arrived I found out that the SF Compact and I were not well suited for each other.

They were very patient with me and spent lots of time resolving things and very open and "up front".

The issued an RMA to return it even though "all sales are final".

Great store, great people and if they'll have me as a customer, I'll give them as much business and referrals as I can.

PCP hand pumps ... Other usage?

Looking at pcp hand pumps , compressor and there over view pictures are funny at times .

Like hooked up to a springer or pump shotgun . Or something off the wall .

Anyway. What other use have you used your hand pump or compressor for ?

Like airing up you car tires , paint gun, raft, .

I am curious on how it would air up a full sized car tire like a 16 or 18 inch ford f250 or 3/4 ton truck tire . Like 2 pumps from a 4500 psi pump ?

If you got a experience thin on some outside the box use let's hear it ..lol

indiana opening day Crown Continuumm

Today was Indiana opening day for squirrel season, got in woods at 7:15 and was done at 9:30..all were shot off hand closet 20 yds farthest about 40 yds, all head shots.. I love this gun so very easy to shoot offhand with the 380mm barrel.
Last 2 I killed were in a huge shag bark hickory and there was so many squirrels in the trees that it sounded like it was raining, you could actually smell squirrels..wont make sense unless youve ever been under a tree alive with squirrels.
Sorry for the bad pic but it was starting to rain when I got home so was in a hurry..

Ammo was 18 gr JSB at 826 fps. Cat was trying to steal the scene and squirrels

Big game hunting with air guns

In a discussion of $3000 airguns the thread started drifting into use of airguns on large game. Deer and larger game. A view was expressed that it is not very ethical because airguns do not generate shock and the theory is that means a slow death for the game. I do not agree with a lot of that view.

It is true that airgun velocities are like handgun velocities or black powder gun velocities. The tissue in our quarry will expand much more slowly due to the lower velocity and it will be able to collapse back eliminating any shock damage. I think looking at ballistic gel projectile paths for airguns is misleading because of this. But when the only guns were black powder velocity was similarly limited and lots of large animals died. I used to live in PA and have a left handed flintlock for their primitive weapons season. I did not kill a deer with it but I am confident a 45 caliber lead ball will cleanly take a deer at close range. It has been done many, many times. It can break the shoulder bone to get to the lungs.

Some enjoy using handguns to take large game. Even a 44 magnum is too slow to create shock damage to animals. So it kills by making a hole just like an airgun or a black powder rifle. Game up to and including Cape buffalo have been taken with them. I would not attempt that but to argue they won't take a deer because they do not generate shock is just incorrect.

When I shoot a squirrel with my 177, 22, or 25 caliber airguns I usually get DRT results. There is no shock. I use only domed pellets so they do not even expand. They make a big enough hole in the head or chest and the animal dies in seconds.

Airgun fpe can be as high as 1200 fpe which most would admit is enough for deer. But most are much lower. Airguns have to be large in caliber to make fairly high fpe but that means their projectiles do not need to expand to make a large enough hole to kill a deer. I tend to agree that most of us should not use guns which will only work if we make a good brain shot. Not a head shot, a brain shot. But with a 45 caliber airgun we can be right up there with blackpowder guns and large bore handguns.

State game commissions exist to ensure the animals are taken responsibly. Most allow airguns. They looked at the evidence and decided they are big enough.

I only use airguns for small game but with the right gun, I am sure they will ethically take large game. Not at hundreds of yards but cleanly and ethically.
