Finally made a swaging die that doesn't stink...very much

Turns out die making is hard! who would have thought. I think I finally have a die that makes half decent slugs. Definitely not going to give any of the really slugs out there a run for their money but a big win for me. I can get about a 1.5" group at 50yrds with my airarms Krait. Baby steps.

IMG_8124.jpeg

Couple of my takeaways:

  • The diameter of the slug mattered more than the profile or general shape
  • Deeper hollow points tended to do better
  • Taking the time to harden the dies properly was well worth the time as it made them much easier to polish. (will likely help with longevity as well)
  • The overflow extrusion hole should be no bigger than 3/32 to create enough pressure to fully fill out your die.
  • Making a slug that shoots well for everyone is probably not possible. Barrel bore, and the tune need to be factored in when designing a die/slug.
  • If you use swaging lube its worth the time to washing your slugs after.
I'm not experienced enough to state any of the above with confidence but they tend to be true with my limited experience.

These are all the dies that I made before I got one that makes half decent slugs :cautious:

N/A  Cometa Fenix/Fusion questions

Does anyone know if you can switch the spring in a Cometa Fenix/Fusion to a gas ram?

Why not buy one with a gas ram you ask? Well, there isn't a lot of choice here in Canada and the retailer I am looking at does not have any gas ram rifles in stock and if I were to order one it would take a long time to arrive and likely be significantly higher in price. They do however have laminate stocked rifles I am interested in with springs and the gas rams and rear support cups in stock so I was wondering if it was a simple switch or if multiple parts needed to be changed, or not possible at all.

Also, is there a difference in the transfer port size between the .177 and .22 versions? I was thinking it might be nice to pick up a barrel in the other caliber and switching between them for plinking and hunting.

Thank you for the help.

FNG

Hello Crew, Im completely new to the airgun scene and would like some help looking for a good starter air rifle. I have a budget of around 400-500 for it and that would have to include most everything. Is there such a rifle that can be found in that range fully kitted out and wont make alot of noise to disturb my neighbors? Its main purpose will be for squirrels, possums, and racoons as they are a big problem on my property.

Tree Rat Action

It seems that this time of year really brings out the vermin! I caught a squirrel and a very large Norweigen brown rat in my shed the other night - both foraging for food! I got the rat in the evening with the aid of my Hikmicro thermal scope and the squirrel videos were take with the Hikmicro 4k LRF NV. The scope is mounted on my EVOL 15 .22. I didn't touch the viedos and the viewing in real-time is as good as the videos. The second squirrel only jumped up and was dead about 1 yard away. The other 2 squirrels were a couple days apart... all in my back yard. The scope zooms from 3.5 to 28 so it has a great range to find and then zoom in for better shot placement. It does pixelate at the farthest range, but is still very usable. AGM sells the same scope (almost) over here as the Spectrum LRF 4K.

PCP Rifle  SOLD AirForce Condor - New [price lowered] [Again!]

For sale is this .22 cal Condor. It has a 24" Lothar Walther barrel and is very accurate. The air tank on this gun has a specially designed valve system that achieves very high velocities. So, if power and accuracy is what you are looking for, this AirForce rifle will not disappoint.

I bought two Condors, this one and an SS because I was not sure which one best suited my needs, and so this is the extra one. I only shot it a few times to get a feel of it, so it's basically new. My loss, your gain, it's a great deal!

I am asking:
$575 $550 $500 or best reasonable offer for the Condor and 1/2x20 adapter, shipped.
$180 for the moderator.
$45 for the ring lock valve pin kit.

I will only sell the available accessories separately once the gun sells first.

Sheridan  Strange marking on Sheridans

Is the plural of "Sheridan", "sheridie?
Anyway,I have two Sheridans with some odd markings, and maybe folks could tell me if these were made by the manufacturer, or placed there by some long departed owner. I can't figure out head from tail on these. There is no other marking on either rifle except the Racine stamp. I am kind of trying to figure out the vintage of the guns

AirMaks Arms  AirMaks Krait vs FX Impact M3

I would appreciate some insights on the reasons why individuals might prefer the M3 or M4 over the Krait.
While I have reviewed separate videos discussing each option, I have yet to find a comprehensive analysis that explains whether the higher price for the M3 or M4 is justified.

What are the key advantages that make these models worth the additional cost compared to the Krait, and what specific features or capabilities does one offer that the other does not?

HW/Weihrauch  HW30 50 yd Bench

I don’t know any other Springer shooters and in particular any HW30 shooters other than on forums. I would like comments from any HW30/R7 owners that shoot 50 yard bench. I think my HW30 is more accurate than I am, I’ve had this, my only air rifle, less than a year. Still learning proper hold. Please tell me if these are decent groups at 50 yards out of a HW30. AIRMAX 4-12x50. All with AA Diabolo Field 8.4. Zeroed at 25 yds. 3 mildot holdover. Always 5 shot groups, 1” CTC average. Thanks for any comments. I’d like to thank MyCapt65 for a chat about my gun. It was very much appreciated.

Shipping airguns you should be using ...pirateship.com

I've seen a few posts on here in the last little while griping about shipping, and I have some advice.

1) USPS Ground Advantage, it's ok, but in my mind not really worth the, sometimes, long delay in delivery. I've used it a time or two, but have sworn off it.
2) USPS Priority Mail, it's their best option, but mail service is getting worse every day. My last incoming shipment took 9 or 10 days and was 60 miles form my home for over 3 days. Then the funny story is... when you come to my house, my driveway is roughly 300 feet long, and then it splits, you go right into my garage, on that side you could conservatively park a dozen cars. If you go left, you could literally park a 747 in front of my house. But, and this is the great part. If a delivery is on saturday, (not my normal mailman), I will almost always get a notice, "driveway inaccessable" HOLY COW! how much room do they need!!!!!?

So, I'm not using USPS any more than is necessary.

I've had good luck with both UPS and FedEx, so when one of the service techs at AOA had me send in my Impact for work, he said use pirateship.com and save a bundle. He was right. You can ship a gun, which normally would cost something on the order of $60-100 for around $35, it's amazing and they use UPS or USPS, and there may be another too, I can't remember. So that's what I use and it's amazing how much you save and I've never had a problem and when you go into your "free" account, you get a history of all shipments and tracking numbers. So if you haven't give it a try.

Air Force Owners. Drop Down V3

Our newest version of our patented drop down adapter is now available.

This version 3 is designed to work with all Air Force new spin lock standard size aluminum and CF bottles. Spin lock bottles have the gauge and quick fill mounted to them.

Shoulder your AF rifle the way it should be, below the bore line.

No more high scope rings and cramped necks.

So, this is what happens when you get bored...

Since I've got plenty of spare time on my hands, I decided that my Veteran needed a murse to hold the extra magazines. I had already bought the aluminum 2 piece bolt on set, but it didn't hold them very well, and I felt like the orings were getting damaged putting them in the holder - they still were quite loose. I came up with this, I'll probably make a second and third one just to see if I can simplify it some, but for my first one, it turned out good. It works fantastic and looks the part.

Lathe Work

I need a valve seat made for my rifle out of Delrin. I have seen a lot of talented people on this forum and figure I would ask here to see if anyone if interested. Below is what I need.

Part number 73 is the valve seal.

The outside diameter is 13.00 mm

The inside diameter is 6.60 mm (this is the hole in the seal)

The outer edge thickness is 1.45 mm

The inner rim thickness is 1.75 mm (this is the part where the valve sits on)

The inner rim is 9.50mm diameter (this is the part where the valve sits on)

FX  FPS out of .22 fx dynamic compact

I just got my fx dynamic compact .22 in, after zeroing with jsb 18.13 grains, I pulled the chronograph out to see where it sits. The average was around 815 fps. Being fairly new to PCP, I did not know if I should try and push these pellets more or leave it alone. Rifle is being used for pest from sparrows to pigeons. Just wanting some other opinions on whether or not I should try and gain more energy per shot

FX  What the shift?

Hi Guys,

I am pretty new to the whole airgun scene, but I did watch a lot of Youtube videos mainly from Matt Dubber, AEAC and some others to prepare for my new toy, a FX Maverick compact in 22 cal topped with a very cheap 4-12x50 scope, and an FX chrono to help me dial it in.

Anyway, I have zeroed the setup at approximately 25 meters at regs 115/85 and powerwheel 4 at 870 fps ->ES of 1 and std dev of 0.5 over 6 shots (for what it is worth) JSB hades .22 15,89gr.
It really shoots like a laser here, ctc group about 3/16 or 5mm. I was very happy with how it performed. So I pushed my target a bit further, 40m this time, expecting the impact to drop a bit vertically, which it did by about 1" or 2,5cm. The only strange thing, it also shifted right by about 2" or 5 cm (I can still print decent groups there., so it is not spread).

So I went online and looked up everything that could cause this to happen, so I started with making sure the optic is level and that the crosshairs are plumb. I spent a whole day using different methods to verify that it was not the optic placement/ adjustment, I used bubble levels, self leveling lasers, plumb bob on a string, light front to back through optic to align crosshair on the wall with a plumb line, I have done just about everything to make sure that the optic and reticle are level and plumb, but still I get the same results.

It is kind of frustrating that I am not able to get it riding the line.
Might it be the cheap optic that might be out of whack?
I am still saving up to get a decent scope, but this is what I have for now.

I am open for suggestions, if possible, an explanation how to check or how to diagnose would be very helpful!

Thanks!

Accessories  NLA Free - GONE Fill Probes

FREE Two fill probes. One I bought new for a Taipan veteran (sold) and the other came with a Leshiy Classic (sold) and would not seal. I replaced the o-rings I had in hope to fix but then the probe would not fit the Leshiy - likely the wrong o-rings as I used Taipan sized. I simply don't need these anymore and free to whomever wants them. First PM with valid address gets them. I will be shipping them in a padded envelope. CONUS only. GONE

Tuning  HW95-Which Tuning Kit?

Which is the best tuning kit for the HW95: Vortek, ARH, or Tinbum? Each seems to have it's following. The components of the Tinbum kits appeals to me because of the lubricity of the Delrin material. Please, if you have only used one of these kits and have not used others, then you have no comparison. I know many will say I use "X" or "Y" and it works or it's crap, but I'm looking for a comparison.
