Results of my MK3 barrel mods

I'm pretty damn stoked right about now....I just got done shooting my new Impact with the barrel mods I did to it and it's shooting Super Awesome.......
I'm well aware that anyone can post a group they shoot and say it was shot at whatever distance they want to try and impress people....I'm not that type of person, I've got no agendas and I'm not trying to sell anyone nothing...and I damn sure don't need to lie about what I've shot with an air rifle. I used to build rimfire benchrest rifles and I've done quite a bit of experimenting with barrel harmonics and tuning barrels. I've had this idea of this mod I did to this impact since my son in law talked me into getting into the air rifles. It's just a nice feeling when something works out for the good when trying to get the most accuracy you can from a rifle....I've got trash cans full of failed experiments that I've made over the years, I can tell a person a Lot of what does not work. I just shot at 50 yards after doing this mod....I took a few shots to re-zero the scope as the point of impact changed and then shot this group of ten shots...after the first couple shots I could tell this rifle was shooting different from the way it was before. I can't wait to shoot it more with some tuning adjustments to see what I can get out of it, as I haven't changed anything from the way it was except for adjusting the scope...it's pouring rain here now so I will not be shooting it anymore today. I will post this 10 shot group at 50 yards...believe it or not. I will not be posting anymore group pics with this rifle.

Taipan Veteran Range time

Weather was too bad for springers today so did a trifecta at my club. Shot the Taipan Veteran at 50 yards, PB pistols at 25 yards and Arrows at 20 yards. The Veteran has sat for a year and here is how they shoot off the bench. Not too shabby for a purpose built hunting PCP.

Great times are had at Washtenaw, everyone is welcome.

A joke

An airgun enthusiast is walking down the beach when he finds a magic lamp in the sand. He rubs it and a genie pops out.

“You have three wishes,” says the genie.

The airgun enthusiast thinks for a moment, then says, “I want a PCP air rifle that can make dime sized groups at 200 yards, that’s silent without a moderator, that’s as light as a sheet of paper, with a perfect crispy trigger, an easy to adjust regulator, interchangeable barrels, an unbreakable magazine, beautiful walnut stock, which can ethically hunt everything from squirrels to elephants, can’t leak, doesn’t need o-rings, and never runs out of air.”

The genie snaps his fingers and a moment later the airgun enthusiast is holding the most beautiful air rifle he’s ever seen, exactly to his specifications.

He shoulders it, aims down the beach at a dandelion 200 yards away, and proceeds to shoot the petals from it one by one, each perfect shot as quiet as a summer breeze. When he checks the gauge, he finds the bottle is still full.

“And what are your other two wishes?” asks the genie.

The airgun enthusiast looks up. “I’ll take two more of these.”

Lightest Quality Scope?

Looking for suggestions. It’s been discussed 100 times I know but I keep waiting for the unicorn to show up.

I’m looking for a scope ideally under 16 ounces with good glass and nice reticle for a Vet Short. I have Discovery, Vector and USO scopes now but they are a little heavier than I would like. Also not looking for anything high dollar.

At this point I have it narrowed down to a Leupold 3-9 EFR but the turrets and reticle are not ideal.

After scouring everything I was hoping you guys can point out anything I might have missed.

Thank you

Deal on a gun cabinet

I have been eyeballing this cabinet for the last month or so at the local thrift shop (=indoor flea market basically).

They had 40% off all furniture a couple of days ago so I got this for $60!

It is in better shape than i expected. This is the first piece of furniture I have purchased for the house I just moved into.

HW98...

I have an HW30S in .177 and love to plink with it. It's also a favorite of my adult kids and wife. Years ago I had an HW97K in .177 that I could hit black eye Susans 6 out of 10 times at 75-78 yards with. My wife got sick and it had to go.
Last summer I was again in the market and decided to go with the TX200 in .177. On a bag with 8.44 gr I can hit the cap on a water bottle about 5 out of 10 at 50-55 yards.
I do a fair amount if pesting from 20 - 60 yards and use PCPs in .22. We almost always seem to have some wind or at least a breeze. For sometime now I have wanted to use a springer for pesting but have found the TX200 to be too cumbersome to load quickly. This brings me to the HW98. I live in a rual area and have no real chance of shouldering one before buying but I know a good looking gun when I see one. I have .177 because the fps is generally in the 'sweet spot' for most pellets I'd hunt with. I've never shot the equivalent springer in .22 and was hoping some of you could help me out on the caliber choice. I figured that neither caliber would have much advantage when encountering leaves and such but what I'm unclear about is trajectory issues, shooting in-between limbs and swirling wind.
Thx for the help!

I got a Great deal on a Leaking Umarex Hammer .50

I was skimming the used section on AoA website, came across a used Umarex Hammer .50 cal, it was a leaker so it was discounted even more than usual, $300, I bought it and it was sent here in 3 days, I opened the package and thought," This looks like a brand new gun", perfect condition, not one scratch on it, so I check it over, and then pumped it up, yep it is leaking, found the leak at the bleed screw, tightened the screw and filled the gun to 3400 psi, checked the gun over with my electronic leak detector and did not pick up any leaks, so the leak was from a loose bleed screw, fixed in 10 minutes, been holding at 3400 psi for 4 days now..... ;) I just got a $800 plus gun for $300 , I love this kind of deal....
just got the NSA .510 388gr slugs for it, going to test it out at the range today or tomorrow:cool:

Cans just for targets?

For a week I’ve had a persistent Robin trying to make a nest over my back door. I let it happen 5-6 years ago, I learned my lesson. This bird has made a mess like no tomorrow. Fantastic place to nest, watch movies at nite. I kept taking it down to the point where I had to put my empty cans for targets up to discourage it, thought I had played the trump card. No this morning I hear a thump. I took a picture you can see the Robin persistant than ever. Don’t want to track bird crap into my house.

Best low speed pellet options?

I’ve got a cricket mini that I’m wanting to slow down just for the rats in my chicken coop. Is there a particular pellet that likes a slower speed and still plenty accurate at 30 yards max? Because of the current tune with 25gr redesigns and 18gr Jsb’s I’m not wanting to mess with the regulator, but rather slow things down with the hammer spring. I plan on trying it soon, but can the 25gr’s be shot accurately down in the 5-600 fps range? I’m not sure because of my current reg setting if I could get the 18gr below 800 fps. Current tune with hammer spring turned in almost fully, she’s shooting the 25gr around 760, so I have no doubt I can get the speeds of those down.

Again, plan on trying both, but figured I’d ask for suggestions as well. Picture added just because she’s so sexy…

Those Dam Beavers!!

Just unpacked from a beaver set. I can say this has been quite the experience. I’m tired, had some action tonight, worked hard earlier busting up the dam. I thought I was going out there with my NV setup but ran into hiccups on my pre-hunt sight in.

Below was my intended setup minus the Caldwell turret.

Ended up dumping the Pard NV008s LRF and the external IR torch because I didn’t take enough time enough time sighting it in again after swapping scopes. After two unsuccessful sight-in attempts I said screw it. It cost me an hour. So I threw on my Bushnell Engage 4-16x44 IR FFP and sighted it in. After two bullseyes from 25 yards I was ready to go. I went out with my thermal scanner, my ScanPro headlamp, and a rifle-mounted torch. Unfortunately no videos or photos other than a few thermal images of a beaver that was pretty close to me on the other side of a thicket in what I assume is their feeding area on the other side of the dam. That is unless the trail cam picked up some of the action. I also have photos of the dam, pond, lodge, and other elements of this permission.

I’ll try to work on updating the thread this weekend as I’ll be working this permission this weekend. All I can say is this is a different type of hunting. A lot to take in.

This is the beaver (I spotted through some brush with a thermal scanner the black spot on the photo below ). I didn’t know it was a beaver for some time . It didn’t appear to have moved much. I thought I was picking up a patch of water through the thicket until I scanned minutes later and it was gone. The water was still warmer than the air so it showed up black as well. Shortly after I spotted a beaver on top of the dam and shot it standing behind my Primos Trigger Stick bipod. The animals’s position was close to a perfect broadside, I knew the range, i knew my holds, there was no wind, and a half moon. I would not have known it was in the area without my thermal scanner. I didn’t hear it move onto the dam. It was tough to hear over the running water from the breaks I dug into in the dam, industrial activity, and automobile traffic in the background. It was also quite humid this evening. It rained the night before. Humidity was around 74%.

I’ll return to the pond tomorrow to see if a carcass floated to the top of the pond somewhere. I also need to see how much patchwork they’re going to do tonight. I suspect they may try to build a new dam downstream a bit. About a half hour before I left, I heard them fell a pretty good sized tree. Despite all of the activity, I left by the time I’d notified the Sherriff that I’d be out of the area. One thing about it, this is new territory and I’m working on this permission in another state. They have different regulations and I had to talk to a couple of agencies and departments. These beavers are destroying a bridge here and they have destroyed quite a bit of timber as well as breached several people’s ponds in the area. I’ll post more about it tomorrow.

Thank you to @Monkyshine and @TheIceman for sharing your knowledge and guidance.

Plain Stupidity, anybody else?

I always double ckeck if an air rifle is uncocked before going back in it's resting place, normally point towards woods and pull trigger, if inside it's either an old coat on the floor or a card board box full of scrap paper, never had one go off. Then a week ago i dusted off a rimfire that is tube fed, put 5 rounds in and shot 5 times confidently, stood it in the corner and came back to put it away, out of habit i pointed it at that old coat on basement floor and it went off, dammit, started to repair divvit in my epoxy floor, think the wife will find it? Probably. Had to have been one round stuck out of site in that tube, stupid, anybody else this stupid?

Gamo arrow misfire.

Hi ppl.
My Gammo Arrow has stopped working after firing only 400 pellets. Unfortunately, there are no gunsmiths in my area who are willing to repair PCP airguns. If anyone knows of a tutorial or video on how to take it apart, it would be of great help to me. This is my first airgun, and it would be better for me to learn how to fix it myself than to send it a couple of hundred kilometers for repairs.

Regarding the rifle, it misfired, and there is a rattling sound like a loose pellet inside the gun.

CS4 maintenance videos

I just saw these posted from a few days ago. Pretty interesting if you own one.
The "how to drain out CS4 extra grease" video doesn't say whether to run it for two hours and then pull the burst disk out and clean out grease or pull the burst disk out and run for two hours.
Either way, the cylinder head removal and inspection video looks video forward. He moves so fast you can tell he does this all day.

M3 vs M2 Valve Adjuster

I own an Impact Mk2 and also the Mk3.

Using the Mk2 the valve stop has much more adjustment before it affects velocity, I leave it on line 4 and sometimes do not see any velocity drop until I get to line 2.

Whilst the M3 I have to leave the valve stop out way past line 4, maybe like line 5 if there was a line 5 to get the best velocity , if I take it to line 4 velocity drops by 100fps, if I take it to line 3 or 2 the gun does't fire, the valve cannot open.

Is this normal for the M3, I also tried putting a slug power kit spring in, the lighter one and its basically the same... Seems pointless even having the markers on if they cannot be used due to not opening the valve at all on these....
