The One Even my Veteran Fears...

June 22nd will be my fifth anniversary as a member of AGN. During that time I've extolled the virtues of products that worked for me and tried to pass my positive experience along to others in the sport....The Taipan Veteran and Daystate Huntsman are such examples...My personal favorites...However I have another airgun that pre dates both of my favorites by at least a year bought new about five years ago and in that time it has proven it's self, consistently, absolutely, no grey area, positively without a doubt to be THE gun I can shoot the best time and time again year in and year out, I shoot groups OFF MY KNEE that just make me giggle...think I replaced the breech oring once, pulled it out while cleaning years ago, been no leaks or issues...I did have a cracked mag replaced I'm the beginning. The design of this gun is genius the way it holds and fits and that smooth twist barrel is just amazing...I'm referring to the FX Bobcat Mk2...mine is in. 25cal. Worst thing I can say about it...It's UGLY (to me) I hate synthetic stocks and it is a "big boys gun" bench/target only, if someone can tote a Bobcat through the woods their a better man than me! Dead accurate on both power levels 650 on low 900 on high with JSB 25s shoots the 33s a little better on high at 775, high shot count 150 on low 90 on high...been years since I checked that...I don't post this lightly...I always regret buying this one as I prefere "show ponies with "pretty wood stocks"...This story needed to be told...I've shot the best groups of my life with my Bobcat and keep it on it's preformamce alone...but it will never be displayed on my wall...UGLY!!!
Groups are typical...the one hole in wood was years ago a"5 stack" best ever the

Hungary or former YU states - what are the airgun laws?

I am lurking with the idea retiring somewhere there, because, first of all I am decent literate with all they languages, also the living costs attracting my attention. For years I was tinkering about moving to Spain or Portugal, but those places floaded lately with african migrants, must have got over crowded in meantime ...
In Canada I have a PAL-RPAL (license=permit) for my high powered airguns, the ideal would be if I could take my toys with me there, in a container?
Next time I am flying out somewhere before end of the year for a learning curve. Where shall I ask for details? Start with a local Police station or there may be other better places? I would really prefer visiting and talking to a living person over there instead of just reading generic websites in front of a PC screen.
Any hungarian-serbian members in gunclubs can chime in, or eventually we go private messaging?

Taipan gets a new scope and takes a spatze

Got a new scope for the Taipan .25 Shorty. Hawke Airmax 4-16x44 Compact. This was about two weeks ago, and I finally got it zeroed tonight. I then went into the shed the spatzes nest in and made a bunch of noise. I heard them fly out so went back to the door and they were perched in the near corn crib. They saw me as I came to the door and flew to the far corn cribs. I drew a line on a male, offhand, and dropped him in a shower of feathers.

I paced off the shot and it was 32 long paces for my 6’2” legs so I figure 30-35 yards.

The Taipan short really is nice to shoot offhand.

Looking for similar reticle

I've had this Burris Ina box for a couple years meaning to put on my new avenger or my BSA LONESTAR.
Love the reticle it ticks all the boxes for me. Only issue is it only focuses down to 50 yards.
Anyone know of a reticle that is the same on a reasonable price? 150.00 to 300.00
It's perfect a d not cluttered , just what I like.
I'll probably put it on .223 bolt later.

Thanks,
Gary

Notos with scope won't zero in.

SO i got a 3x9 40 scope for my Notos and I can't for the life of me get it zeroed in. I took the scope off and re mounted it and put all the cross hairs back in the center because i maxed out to the left trying to get it to be on the bulls eye. I am almost to the point where i think the issue could be the gun. I was trying to zero it at about 30 feet cause It won't even hit the box the target is on. I had to get to about 10 feet away just to hit the box. I took it to a gun shop and they said it looked like it was mounted correctly. Any ideas to try would be great. thx.

Father's Day and my BSA

Finally got my Ultra I always wanted. Picked it up from AoA about a week ago. I did a full tear down and clean, replaced the probe o-ring and transfer port o-rings since I was getting a slight puff of air to the face on firing.

I pulled the valve restrictor out and bored the transfer port from 5/64" up to 7/64". Brought the gun up from 11 fpe to 19 fpe, sacrificed 15 shots or so. Worth it in my opinion, since I plan on using for a squirrel and bunny gun.

Had about an hour or so this morning to myself, and knew a storm was coming, so I sprung into action. Filled my bottle up, gathered some pellets, and made some target cards. I have to say, for having a 10 mph shifting tail wind, I'm quite impressed with the accuracy. Didn't change my scope settings, and ran all shots at 9x magnification.

Sporting an Athlon Neos 4-12x40 scope, and a DonnyFL Koi.
All groups 35 yards off my shooting rest. This little gun will definitely hunt!

Happy Father's day guys!

TX200 MKIII at 100-yards

This morning was very still and I was intending to shoot 100-yard rimfire. But, it very still. Did I mention how still it was?

As I am still getting the TX200 MKIII rebuild with a 3mm spacer in front of the top hat settled it seemed opportune. I really think it is there.

This break-in process has been complicated as I mixed 2 different lots of pellets when sorting, and they are not meshing. So it makes things look off for me. At times I am not sure if it is an issue with pellets or the gun, or !!!!ME!!!!. 🤪 It can't be me. 😁

I digress. As i may have mentioned it was very still so I set up at 100-yards. I was using NRA A33 targets used in 100-yard F-class.

I shot the messed up AA Field Heavy 10.3 sorted to 10.3 but poor lot match. I shot AA Field Heavy 10.3 sorted to 10.4 but a reasonable lot. I shot AA Field Heavy 10.3 sorted to 10.4 and waxed. These last are sorted and waxed 10.4's from an older known good lot. I use them as a control. I am running low on those. Lastly, I shot Zan 10gr slugs.

The AA Field Heavy 10.4 waxed shot 2.2" over 7 shots. I shot 7 as I am running low on them.

The Zan put 7 of 9 shots in 1.72" with 2 flyers making all 9 in 3.50" overall. I am pretty sure that leat 1 of those wild ones was me. Maybe both. I don't know why I shot 9 and not 10 shots.

The AA Field Heavy 10.4's that are "decent" but unlubricated put 8 in.1.8" with 2 flyers making it 4.5" for 10. I don't think those were me this time.

The AA Field Heavy 10.3 sorted but mixed lot that are a poor fit shot 6.2". I shot 15 as I couldn't find a pattern.

John

the story of my first trash panda (with pics and video!)

Once upon a time in the good ol' USA, there lived a guy named Bob. Now, Bob was a real tech-savvy outdoorsman, armed with all the latest gadgets and gizmos to tackle his backyard critter problem.

You see, Bob had set up this fancy tree-side nourishment center complete with a ring doorbell to alert him whenever a furry friend came sniffing around. When his Alexa pinged, Bob would spring into action, heading upstairs to his window like a sharpshooting video game hero, armed with an Agt vixen in .22 with an eagle vision GoPro adapter hooked up to a monitor. It was like hunting on the big screen!

But things took a hilarious turn when Bob decided to up his game. He bought an AEA SF in .30 and upgraded his trusty atomic XR to a BRK pathfinder, which was basically his mobile hunting tool for when the squirrels dared to venture out of reach. And as if that wasn't enough, he splurged on the new ATN gen 5 scope cam to streamline his setup. It even had night vision, although he didn't plan on using it and disturbing the peace of the city at night.

But then, trouble came knocking—or, more accurately, rummaging through the trash. Bob noticed a sneaky raccoon showing up randomly late at night, lurking in the pitch-dark shadows. Now, Bob had a score to settle with those trash pandas ever since one of them messed with his dog, leading to a wild raccoon battle and a trip to the ER for rabies shots in both arms and legs. Ouch!

Normally, Bob was a live-and-let-live kind of guy, especially since he had three kids to take care of and desperately needed sleep. Besides, the raccoon was only there because of the squirrel bait, right? No harm, no foul, as long as their paths didn't physically cross.

But then, one fateful night at 10:45 PM, that raccoon pushed Bob's buttons. It strutted over to the feeder like it owned the place, completely unbothered by the sliding door and camera lights. Meanwhile, Bob's wife was busy loading and unloading the car just around the corner. That's when Bob decided it was time to take action.

The only problem? His .30-cal setup from the window wasn't ready, and the GoPro adapter was limiting his view. He couldn't trust his aim, and let's face it, he couldn't see a thing. further more, he had disassembled his atomic XR (mag packed up, sights, laser, tail removed) in preparation for sale.

His trusty vixen was sans sighting system. That left him with the brand-new BRK pathfinder from Atlas Airguns. He had decreased the power to a manageable 17 ft/lb, slapped a vortex 4x prism on it, and fired off a test shot from one end of the room to the other. Adjusting left and up, within 2 shots, he got it pretty close. Enough to take the shot at around 12-15 yards. It was nerve-wracking, but it had to be done.

With a racing heart and trembling arms, Bob tiptoed outside, ready to face off with the raccoon. The backyard slide door light provided a faint outline, and Bob took aim. Luckily, the markings around the raccoon's eyes made for an easy target. However, the visibility was still muddy. In a swift move, Bob switched on the illumination inside his optic, and BAM! Did he hit the mark? The raccoon stumbled and fell. Victory!

Bob couldn't remember if he took a second shot in the heat of the moment, but he wanted to be sure. He cautiously approached the downed critter, its dance of defeat playing out before him. Bob knew it was his moment. He walked up, took out 7-8 shots at point-blank range, and sealed the deal.

He walked back inside to reload, one round left in the mag. Replacing the Hades with ultra shocks, Bob carried the raccoon's heavy body using his trusty fireplace clamps, bringing it into the light. He aimed one final shot at the top of its head, and that was the end of the tale.

And so, in the great tradition of American humor and resourcefulness, Bob had triumphed over the trash panda menace, forever etching his name in the annals of backyard legends.

Geezerhood's Notos Thread

My new as of about a week ago Notos has been such a joy to shoot. Once the barrel had a few hundred shots sent through it plus a couple of cleanings, it now seems to like pretty much everything pelletwise that I have on hand except for Meisterkugelns when fed from the magazine. I am going to gather all my other posts about my Notos to this thread to have them in one spot.
