umarex notos FPS spread

since the stock hammer spring is super stiff and adjusting the tension did nothing but make my gun fluctuate up to 24fps between shots, i’ve tried softer springs with a spacer to try to make the tension adjuster work properly. it worked to give me room for a range of 700-775fps with shots differing under 14fps per shot.

i’m sure that, like everyone here, i wanted better.
after deciding to finally cut the original spring( half of a coil from both ends) i end up with 788-795fps spread. this is with the tension adjuster half a turn in from being fully backed out. i haven’t turned it all the way in yet because it’s in a pretty sweet spot right now. i also added a moly greased washer behind the spring between the threaded tension adjuster plug to help smooth out the spring compression and decompression.

now here comes the best part! see that little o-ring in the chamber? i changed it out with a slightly beefier one after feeling a little fart of air on my nose a few times when shooting the gun. after test firing it with the new o-ring… 795,795,793,792,795,795,795,792 FPS!
those last three 795 fps had me thinking my chrono was broken🧐. after using my crosman 1322 which i know is shooting 520-540 fps to confirm that the chrono is not broken.. 🥹😁 i brought the notos to the chrono again and 795,795,794. is this what’s considered a tuned airgun is supposed to be like? this is awesome!

the o-ring on the left is the original o-ring inside the chamber and the o-ring on the right is the new one i installed.

FX  Trajectory turmoil

Video is having issues so I’ll explain here I hope.

-Shooting JSB 18s out of my Crown.
-I shot shot strings and confirmed my average fps at 870.
-Put my chrono at 50y and got my own BC.
-Went to check my dope (in Chairgun) and it was telling me a 1mil drop at 50y at 12X with my AMX reticle.
Here is where it gets confusing…
-I shot a 5 shot group at 50y and they all landed at “Half” mil dot at 50y.
I assumed my BC was off so I retried it 3 times, and triple checked my velocity as well.
-Once I confirmed all my data was correct, I did a trajectory validation on Chairgun. This told me for me to have a “half” mil drop at 50y my muzzle velocity needed to be 933fps.
-At this point I figured screw it let’s try it at 933 for the app and I’ll see what it says to hold for 75y.
- So it told me to hold 2.5mil at 75y and it was dead on…

So I’m perplexed other then maybe double checking my scope height on how I would come up with this data. I have to be missing something I’m sure someone will point out…

PS: I did double check my distances were accurate as well
UPDATE: Scope height is accurate.
-Now looking to assume my distances may be off?

New to Field Target - practice questions

I've been shooting airguns as an adult for 25 years now. Mostly plinking, some hunting and I used to shoot benchrest a little bit. I've decided that I'd like to give HFT a try and bought a few field targets to practice with. Right now, the smallest target reducer I have is 5/8" which I've been setting out at various intervals for practice with sticks/bucket, kneeling and off hand. As I understand it, the short game can really throw a wrench in the works so I'd really like to work there (10 to 15 yards). The nearest clubs to me are in Ohio about three hours away and I'll eventually get to one, but until I do what range, target reducer size and positioning should I concentrate on? What’s typical off hand, range and reducer size?

PCP Rifle  SOLD MAC1 USFT .177 FT/Benchrest Rifle Package

MAC1 USFT.jpgIMG_4650.jpgIMG_4651.jpgUsft Cheek rest.jpgHawk Scope Blemish.jpgIMG_4654.jpg

I cant believe that I am selling this USFT, but I dont have the time or place to shoot it. I believe that my Taipan Veteran Compact .177 checks all the boxes for Suburban shooting so I will continue to sell off the rest of my gun collection. As you can see from the first Pic, this rifle has seen action at CASA, the California Airgun Shooters Association. Since I bought it, I have probably put 50 pellets thru it and have done nothing to the USFT other then I just sold the Nikko Scope to a great friend who shoots FT at CASA and replaced it with a 8-32x50 Hawk Airmax. (The Dope card is from the old Scope and I will remove for the sale if the buyer wants me to). My friend also got the butt hook, so thats not for sale. I bought the Sumo LDC and adapter to have quiet shooting sessions in my suburban backyard!

This USFT comes with the Knee rest, 2 barrel bands, the DonnyFL Sumo LDC and adapter, and the Hawk Airmax 8-32x50 Scope, 2 sunshades, scope mounts, Flip caps, and 2 SF scope wheels.
Discosure: I took a pic of a minor scratch on the Hawk Airmax Scope that does not affect the scope, and the cheek rest which has a hairline crack that is too insignificant to fix.

This is the MAC1 USFT #86 which means its one of the early ones built when each rifle barrel was hand selected to ensure the top accuracy! Tim at MAC1 does not think it has one of the coveted holy grail rare twist rate barrels. This rifle is one of the low pressure (1500psi-1250PSI) rifles and high volume air tube which eliminates any need for a regulator. I prefer knowing that there is no potential for a leaky reg on the bottle or in the tube! It also has the canted hand grip which makes it much more ergonomic for FT or Benchrest. Regarding the shot curve ect... All I know is that for CASA matches the fill was at 1500 and shot down to 1250. It is marked off on the gauge.

Repeat, this USFT comes with the Knee rest, 2 barrel bands, the DonnyFL Sumo LDC and adapter, and the Hawk Airmax 8-32x50 Scope, 2 sunshades, scope mounts, flip caps, and 2 SF scope wheels. This is the perfect package for FT or benchrest! These Rifles rarely come on the market and there is a reason for that, they are built for accuracy, not looks, and so they just quietly kick butt. This package will be shipped in a hard case and fully insured!
I accept Paypal F&F, Venmo, USPO money order, or good check. I have great reps here and on GTA.

Priced for quick sale: You can have a complete MAC1 USFT FT/Benchrest package for only $2,100 Shipped!

2023 Squirrel Season

Season opener here in Alabama today. I didn't get out early as I was still worn out from yard work yesterday. Mid day was hot and I was sweating rivers while not finding any squirrels and I was getting worried that it was going to be a sucky opener for me but afternoon turned out to be better. I managed to get two, a fat female and a smaller male, using the Weihrauch HW100S and JSB 18's.

Tuning  Pellets Do Matter aka Chronograph Don’t Lie

Thought this was interesting. Kim’s HW50S started shotgunning a little last weekend so I ran over chrono today to see what we could see. Turns out she had switched back to the JSB 13.43 from the H&N FTT I told her were better in her gun. The JSB were easier for her to load. So:

Thought we had a toasted seal when I looked at those numbers and I was going to have to tear down. Shot the H&N just to be sure:
20230909_125205_resized.jpeg

That’s why I switched to H&N awhile back. The JSB numbers were never as bad as above but I think the high temps exacerbated the issues with those pellets in her gun. For whatever reason her 50 hates the JSBs. Also tightened up her front sight that was wiggling. Stood out at 20 yards, shot and reset Cooper the Squirrel, cut a chalk target in half and then that piece in half again. Took all the JSBs out of the bag for that gun. Problem solved ha ha ha. This is a little extreme but sure points out how some pellets just don’t work in some guns. And what a useful tool a chronograph is.

Cheapest Reliable Oil/Waterless Compressor for my Taipan?

Ok, As typical, I read enough to become completely dizzy with confusion and unable to make a decision, and then I come to AGN for advice. I just bought a Taipan Compact, I have a 3000psi SCBA tank, but the Taipan fills to 250 bar. I would not use a compressor for anything else but to fill my Taipan and I would only fill up my Taipan once a week. Im trying to keep my cost the lowest I can ($260 or less) and add a Warranty so if things dont go well.

I am leaning towards the GX CSI because it costs less then the CS2, or is paying more and busting my budget worth it for the CS2?

Is there a cheaper compressor option on Amazon (or elsewhere) worth considering that can be recommended.

Thanks,

Philip

  • Question
What Filling Station can you recommend – where bleeding the hose is smooth & easy (not requiring a lot of force)?

I would like to buy a filling station for SCBA tanks with a quick bleed valve –– or a bleed screw that goes EASY IN and OUT.

I have one filling station that has a "button" on it, the quick blead valve. I give it a push with my thumb, and in one violent Pfffft all the air in the line is gone. EASY!

The other filling station I have is a (China-)pain: It has a bleed screw. I need to unscrew it hard, it hurts, I don't like it at all. And that despite the fact that the screw is large-ish and has 3 blades to apply the force of my fingers better. And as people with whom I shake hands at times confirm: My fingers aren't weak.
That filling station model is pictured below.

QUESTION:
❓ What filling station can you recommend me, where bleeding the hose isn't a chore?

Another QUESTION:
Excuse my ignorance:
I use a 500cc alu bottle taken from an FX Royale,
and
I use a standard SCBA 9L tank.
❓ The filling station that I would like to buy: Will it fit into either of these tanks? Or do they have different threads?

Thanks. 😊
Matthias

5000psi (350bar) Air Tanks and Air Bottles – Do they EXIST??

5000psi (350bar) Air Tanks and Air Bottles – Do they EXIST??

I have been offered the GX compressor, the CS4 model charges up to 5000psi (400 bar).

Why would I want that? (Why does it even exist, UNLESS.... – there are air tanks and air bottles that offer that pressure?)

Thanks for enlightening me on a gray Saturday afternoon,

Matthias

HW/Weihrauch  Bunch of springers today.

After building some new target boards i got to do a little shooting. It was all 25 yards because it was windy today. Anyway I started with my laminate Hw30 with 7.33s and moved to 8.44s. Then my 177 HW95. Then my 20 cal R9 and HW98.. Most are ten shot groups except where the sticker popped and the bottom two rows which are five shot 98 groups. Oh I forgot somewhere in the middle is my 177 HW50 for a few groups. I always hate people cherry picking their best groups and while none of these are spectacular for 25 yards, here's two full pages from five different rifles to keep it real.

Be well all
