Trying to get into air rifle hunting

I recently moved to Virginia. I want to get my son into squirrel and rabbit hunting but he hasn’t had much contact with actual guns so I looked into air rifle hunting. However when I look up Virginia regulations the only thing I can find is that it has to be over 35 cal for deer hunting. Any additional information regarding small game in Virginia would help.

Anyone who can provide helpful info

It’s been a while since I’ve been on any air gun forums. Probably over 5 years. Had a house fire and was uprooted for 2 years. Had to do a full rebuild. After a rough few years insurance allowed us to get back to normal. We lost so much priceless sports and musical memorabilia. between that and a few lifetimes of memories there is a silver lining at the end of it all. The new rebuild is better than the old one and I only lost two new pcp rifles out of my collection. All the rest were cased up and taken out by the firemen before everything went up. Aside from some smoke residue in some of the barrels they are all in excellent condition. Long story short I’ve only recently dug all the cases out from the back of storage. I’d have to make a proper inventory list. But aside from my hk45 black star and p1 maybe and my custom marauder I’m potentially trying to sell just about the whole collection.

I’m located in PA near Philadelpha/king of Prussia. I’m not sure the best way to go about it but if anyone has information on the best ways for me to sell my plinkers, I welcome any and all assistance. Thanks in advance.

Proving out a rifle for nighttime pest control - DAR .25 cal

Hey guys, I've had this DAR in .25 cal for about a year and a half, and it has been a good shooter but I figured it would be sooner rather than later that one of the cheap OEM O-rings would give way and call for a rebuild. Well, turns out that was 2 weeks ago. It started leaking out the atmospheric vent so I broke it down and fully resealed the regulator and tube assembly.

After it was back together, I dialed the hammer spring for the velocity knee (JSB 33.9gr @ 840fps for 53fpe) and zeroed it on the 50 yard target.

I don't do much casual shooting with a .25 cal so I figured it might be useful as an eviction tool for trash pandas. But first I have to make sure it's up to the task of delivering a precise brain shot on the first trigger pull after being put away for some time.

And oh boy, is it happy to put a JSB on an aspirin-sized bull at 50 yards.

4 cold shots 50y JSB 34.jpg

That's a big confidence booster. So when the ding-donger sang its song on consecutive nights, this was the result.

AEA  Pressure limits for aluminum tanks? (AEA/BinTac airguns)

I'm considering AEA aka BinTac airguns with the 250cc aluminum tanks (e.g. S45 single tank version) but I'm concerned about running 4,500 PSI (website typo?) in a metal tank. As you know, carbon fiber is rated for 4,500 PSI but aluminum is limited to 3,000 PSI, generically.

Can some aluminum tanks compensate with greater wall thickness or alloys? I like the streamlined look & size of aluminum vs. CF bottles on those guns. Not seeking maximum shot capacity, just compactness and quicker fills.

Another aspect is that CF tanks are said to be more fragile in terms of outside pressure, e.g. the Titanic sub implosion (they say CF handles far more pressure inside). I want a tank with less risk if something hits it accidentally.

Thanks for any details.

RWS  DIANA 34 PG4-STEEL Tune-Kit HO

I have a 20 year old RWS 34 in .177 cal and this kit looks interesting, the company claims 1,200 fps with Crosman 7.9 gr HP's which would put it at the same power level as a .177 Diana 350 Magnum? Are these claims realistic and does this kit offer any improvement to the harshness of the shot cycle? Looking forward to your feedback thanks:)

Optics  SOLD Pending-Hawke Sidewinder 30 and No Limit adjustable rings.

It's a Hawke Sidewinder 30 6.5-20x42, it was my favorite scope and reticle when I was all about airguns. It will come with a pair of FX No Limit adjustable rings, for the 30mm tube and fits to a dovetail. I had this on my Steyr Rimfire, but recently sold that. It's in great shape, glass is crystal clear and reticle is sharp. The battery is completely dead from me leaving the illumination on. If I can find a battery I'll change it. Comes in the cool old school hawke aluminum case which is no longer a feature of these scopes. This is a screaming deal at $300. If you want it, please call or text me at 865-773-2255 as I'm not getting notifications on my phone when you PM me on here, for some reason. It used to work like that, now it doesn't. Thank you. My name is Robert, from Oak Ridge Tennessee.

Tuning  Caliber choice for EFT

I’m attending my first EFT event in Leesburg Fl, 1-3 Dec this year and in preparation for this event I need to convert my Ghost or my Alphawolf to a larger caliber than .177.
Anyone have thoughts on what caliber to use based on your direct EFT experience?
I already know that my .177 even shooting the 16.1’s ain’t the best choice 🫤
.22?
.25?
.30?
Of course the Alphawolf is much easier to tune on the fly than the Ghost but ….?

What is the cause of my freezing cold and dripping wet moderator after 75 shots?

Texan .257 LSS shooting AVS 85 grain slugs tethered at 3100 psi 1020 fps
Range at Petaluma CA. 65 degrees humanity 40% precipitation 1%

After aprox 75 shots, the moderator on my Texan 257 LSS gets "very cold to the touch" just below freezing and soaking wet.

I'm sure the freezing end of my barrel affect my POI.

I'm no "brainiack" and wonder what causes this wet and cold condition. And how I can prevent it?

Huben  GK1, NEW loading gate, flawless ☆☆☆☆.

MOistOne has a winner. Awhile ago I posted about a magnetic closing swing-open loading gate for the GK1. It had issues resulting in jamming. It flew open . I replaced the small magnet 🧲 with a much stronger 💪 one. Seemed the problem was solved. But I still got jamming. When I seated the pellets, it worked fine. I really don't want to be bothered with seating the pellets. Someone or two will, no doubt, respond seating is necessary for consistency and accuracy. Ya, ok. I'm not of that ilk.
A member, MOistOne, saw my post, and offered to send me one he makes. Bottom line, it works great. I ran 18.1gr, 25.4gr pellets and NSA 20.2 slugs without a hick-up. NOT seated. Shot it pointing up, pointing down, sideways, and upside down; no problem.
I believe the problem with the first one is the base mount of the gate. It's noticeably thinner than MOistOne's. This exposes the skirt as the magazine cycles during firing. At the mid point of indexing, the blowback pushes the skirt back just enough to catch on the frame. If the base was thicker, or the gate was closer to the cylinders, it would probably be fine. If you have one of those gates and don't want to seat your ammo, shim the base about 2mm. Should be good to go. On the other hand, if you are going to get a swing open gate and don't want to have to fiddle with it, just get MOistOne's loading gate. Seated or not, it just plain WORKS. And finally, he also sent me a fill port plug he makes. That's a great 👍 accessory to use.
The pictures aren't great, but hopefully they help. Thanks to you MOistOne, you have a winner. Two in fact.
Last thing. He is in the process of refining a red dot mount for rear mount placement. Prototype looks promising.
Bill and Addi.

Benjamin  Benjamin akela not performing in the "cold"

hello everyone! I have a question for all you seasoned pcp vets out there. im new to this, ive been a springer guy for years but just recently got my first pcp air rifle. I have my akela tuned with the hammer spring already being cut down, right now im running the 10.34 hades pellets at 905 fps (great stability, accuracy and power) I noticed the other day when the temp dropped that the fps also drops, makes sense so far...but today, the temp is 49F, and I saw that if I shoot my gun rapidly the gun hardly pushes any air at all. like pellets stuck in the barrel type of thing. if I shoot slowly, it seems to be fine. has anyone else had this problem? I did some quick research and it seems that manufacturers say the cold won't have much impact but im curious to hear some real world experiences. I live in Michigan so it's winter for like 6 months a year these days, so not being able to shoot my pcp would not be ideal. any thoughts?

Snowpeak  My sweet little .25

I picked this up from Wes at Airgun Archery Fun a year or so ago. If you're looking for a lower powered (21 fpe) .25 that's under $300 and shoots like a dream then this it.

I'm getting 26 shots on the regulator and 30 very usable shots per fill from this tiny tube. Pretty amazing and very hand pump friendly if you ask me. It's not pellet picky at all, but it shoots JSB Hades like it was tuned for them. This is 5 of them at 25 yards.

N/A  HW35E Walnut fill pore in results please

29F25ABE-69D9-4FBF-B0D4-30808CC7023B.jpeg
I have a HW35e .22 that is phenomenal and I’m thinking about keeping it. I’ve owned quite a few & this is rising over my others.

The factory stock is perfect except for the unfilled pores. I’m looking to bring the beauty out of it and protect it.
Danish oil?
Teak oil?
Light sanding first coat to slurry & fill?

Please share your process & results.
I did my FWB300 the Joe Wayne Rhea Cyclops tutorial and it’s gorgeous but I wanted to ask.

Lathe Owners - Make a Notos hammer for me?

Hello,

I had a mishap with my Notos.. I let a friend shoot it but I didn't instruct him on the manual of arms for it. I handed the Notos to him after cocking the lever back, inserting a magazine, but not pushing the lever forward so I didn't hand over a loaded gun.

Well... he didnt know so when he shot with the lever back it rounded off my hammer in a spot where the sear catches. I've tried rotating the hammer in there to get a "fresh" spot where the sear attaches but it seems to keep rotating around after X amount of cocking/shooting and has cause dangerous situations from the lever not holding back and shooting a shot to not holding back but me catching it but it double feeding.

This needs replaced.

So of course I asked Umarex for a hammer but.. they said "We do not stock or sell parts for that model. If your gun is experiencing a manufacturers defect please let us know and we will set up a return case."

Even if it were a manufacturer defect I couldn't return cause I have the OEM moderator chopped off and Buck Rail kit on they wouldn't do work on it. Lol

So here I am reaching out to any lathe owner who also has a Notos and is willing to make a one- off hammer for me. I just want it an exact copy I don't need it to be heavier or anything modified.

I can pay through PayPal.

Thank you!

2ed chance pellets ? 🤔

So went and pinched out some spent pellets out of the 75y trailer trash trap (©®tm2023) and most looked pretty darn good except for rifling marks
2edchance.jpg

So being el'cheapo that I am I thought I'll grab the hatsan model 25sc and see how it likes them . Can't be no worse then daisy pointed , right?.....

2edchance2.jpg

Set up 10m. And hay mickey he likes' em

2edchance1.jpg

I thought "man, fresh new out of the tin about as good . Sometimes worse..lol

So when I fully clean the trap looks like I got some pretty good 2ed chance pistol plinking pellets ..

(Just to add I've not shot this pistol in a few months )
