Fur trappers here, do you use PCP to dispatch your catch?

I started trapping in the 3rd grade tail gating my dad, as he did with his dad and grandpa did with grant grand dad. It would have been great to have these air guns to dispatch my coons, bobcats and yoydes plus a few other critters.

Depending on the situation I'd have a few options to kill my catch..club the head, drowning, or .22 to the head.

The club causes a lot of blood clots..blood damage that's difficult to skin out. The .22 head shot is ok but it also causes damage that the fur graders will dock the grade. Drowning is the best option but that's not always possible. To drown a coon is extremely difficult with a forked stick.

Beavers are easy with the drowning wire and as for minks.

It would have been great to have a PCP to dispatch my catches, normally in very early mornings or evenings, to avoid the BANG!.

However....I'm not positive which. Cal I'd use on each particular trapped critters. Coon...most likely. 177cal. Bobcat and yoty...coyote..would have to be .25 cal which would cause much less damage to to hide as a .22 firearm.

I miss trapping, here in Washington it was voted out around 1990? The hound dog hunters hated trappers because they said their hounds would step in the traps, which did happen a few times, but not worth stopping trapping. But the next year hound hunting was outlawed! My best friend and his family were hound hunters, mine were trappers... we both fought each other and turns out we both lost.

Now there are beavers chewing down our yard trees...not really,, but the cougers are running rampant.

Well, back to the original OP..are there any trappers here that dispatch their catch with their airgun? :)

The attached picture is a bear walking around my property. Camera work great!

Is this the longest post here??

FX Warranty Support/ Utah Airguns

I wanted to share my experience with FX support and Utah Airguns. I have a new FX Crown that was purchased in September (from another dealer). Since FX USA dissolved, Utah Airguns has taken on support and I contacted them about some issues I was having (regulator leaking and some gauge issues). They ball parked 2-3 week turnaround time and I was sent a service request form. I sent in my gun last week and they received it on Friday. They shipped it back on Monday (yes, in only 3 days) with the following note on my account:

WARRANTY REPAIR:

Gun was leaking from the regulator. The regulator was completely resealed and piston was replaced. The gauges were replaced and timed to be upright and still show pressure accurately...

I was amazed at the fast turnaround time. The repair was done under warranty with no charge. Since I live in Southern Utah shipping was only a day in either direction, so I was without the gun for only a few days. Hopefully, I don’t get Utah Airguns in trouble by setting a false expectation for anyone else reading this and needing to send in a gun for warranty, lol. But, I know there was some concern about FX repairs after the FX USA thing and my experience is that they are on it.

PCP Rifle  NLA HW100 Carbine .22/HW100 .22 FSB

This was a HW100 FSB (full shrouded barrel) when I purchased it a couple of months ago from another member. I'm not a big fan of long airguns so I ordered a 410 mm barrel and barrel band and converted it to a carbine. I'm selling with both barrels. Gets about 70 shots before falling off the regulator. JSB 15.9's average about 740fps with the carbine barrel and about 750fps with the longer FSB barrel. Airgun is in very good condition and shoots great with either barrel. This was an impulse buy, I already have Two HW100 bullpups and find I just don't shoot this one much at all. Comes with everything in the pictures except scope and rings. Price is $800 shipped in the lower 48 states.

This one seems proud of himself

I shot this squirrel this morning with my P35-22 using a 21 grain H&N Baracuda Match pellet. I hit the shoulder as he was sitting on a branch eating an acorn. Dropped at impact just like the 6 others I used this PCP on. He landed just as he is in the first picture. I guess he, even in death, wanted us to know he wasn't a girl or an immature boy. Weighed a pound by my fish scale. He was 20 yards away and at a 21 degree upward angle according to my rangefinder. You can see the impact area on his shoulder in the first picture. I'm not sure why there is blood on a back leg in that picture but the pellet passed through and he bled a lot pretty quickly. The front leg below where I hit him was loaded with blood and the chest was a mess. Nice clean kill. This one reacted differently than the last one presumably because he hadn't been shot at before. I missed a few times with my 177 apparently due to a bad tin of pellets. When the dog and I came out the back door this one moved up the oak I shot him out of but didn't seem all that scared. Then he sat up there in plain sight eating. The previous one moved quicker to a point higher in the tree and then peaked out from behind the tree.

Non choked barrels for pellets?

I understand the function of choke when we shoot pellets also understand that slugs like more if no choke. But what if we wanna shoot pellets from a non choked barrels?
.....
I have these Russian/ebay made .22 and .25 polygonal barrels (AP 1:17.7) for my Leshiy2 for some time, I did tried the .22 and performs pretty well....never got to .25 yet.

20220612_203535.jpg

But last year I replace it with FX .22x600 liner and shoot with that instead for almost a year.
Tinkering now again to employ these barrels again, but in order to benefit from a FX shroud internal air stripper, speculating to remove the M14 and rework the thread to 1/2-20. This seem to me less work instead of making a new shroud plug with M14. I think to standardize the threads to a single size I can minimize the parts laying around.

What can go wrong shooting pellets from an unchoked barrel? ......... In worst case scenario I can still shoot slugs but that is not my primary focus... I wanna shoot pellets from L2.

RTI  RTI P-3 Out-of-the-box, straight to the range review!

I received an RTI P-3 to do some testing/content on from High Pressure Pneumatics and found it to be a pretty neat gun! Now, I will say that I've been suuuuuuper busy lately and so I did not prep the gun at all other than mounting a scope. I basically took it out of the box and started filming/shooting instantly. I admit I should have maybe done some tuning and at least got some dope before filming, but I don't pull any punches so this is as real as it gets for taking the rifle straight outta the box and onto my bench. With a little tuning and testing a bunch of different slugs to find "the one", I think this gun could be a pretty deadly weapon in NRL22 or just for long range hunting. Video below.

N/A  Traditional Air Rifle With Least Recoil

What type of air rifle has the least recoil, but still reasonably accurate?

Partially detached a retina a few years ago and gave up shoulder mounted firearms. Thus my introduction to the world of airguns

I have been very much enjoying shooting my HW springers, especially with iron and peep sights, but my mostly cured retina is now showing signs of a problem and my Doc said to quit doing that. My solution has been to buy a pistol, and I have a couple more on the way. With respect to rifles, I didn't listen to him, but instead tried shooting them with my head not touching the stock. Since I use artillery hold anyway, I didn't think it would be a problem. It works as far as not jarring my cheek at all, but I am not as good a shot and it is not as much fun with that type of hold, especially with peep sights, which are my favorite sighting system.

So, is there a non-pcp, fairly accurate rifle that has no recoil? My guess would be CO2 but I have no experience with that.

Traditional Rifle  NLA WTS: HW77K .22 Green Laminate tuned by John in PA

This rifle is near perfect and is a phenomenal shooter. Tune is 2-3 years old and I honestly have put less than 1000 FTT’s through it. It has sat in my safe mostly.
Sale price is listed.
Possibly interested in lefty 10m .177 break barrel springer or SSP like older Walther, FWB. Could add cash for the right airgun.
A BSA, HW, RWS break barrel in .25 would be good also.

Asking $850 shipped with a scope, mount, & 3 full tins of H&N FTT 14.66 5.53mm tuned for these at 721fps high and a 709 low across the 10 or so shots I just took. Also I would take $780 shipped for rifle and pellets alone, no scope/mount.
I will run it over a chronograph but I know it’s around 16-17ft/lbs.
Rear sight is included and I believe I have a BKL one piece mount with a 4-12 Hawk AMX reticle on it right now.
I’ll add the current #’s and pictures when I get it out this week.
PayPal G&S add 3% shipping in the CONUS.
Or pick up in NE PA surrounding area.

Hatsan  Target Shooting @ 10 Yards

Ok, I know 10 yards ain't much but there was a kid playing in the yard next door so I went to the basement, didn't want to take any chances.
I'm positive the groups will open the farther I get but I need to practice a lot.
This is using the included scope which I am amazed with, I'm amazed that anyone would sell a piece of crap like that with any air rifle. I can't get it clear, it's always blurry at any distance. I got a Daisy 3-9 I might try, I think it might be better.
I'm going to put a Hawke optic on it or a Bushnell Banner (I think that's what it's called).

Umarex 30 slugs failure

Have been trying several brands of slugs in my Umarex Gauntlet 2 .30 caliber. They all have same problem, too tall. When you try and put one in the breech, it will require hitting the bolt, very hard. I have to carry a dowel with to remove slug when jammed. I saw that Umarex was selling 60 grain slugs in 30 cal. Thought I had found the perfect slug for the Gauntlet. Was I ever disappointed to see the same problem occur. Jammed again. Why would you put on the market a slug that won’t even work in a rifle you manufacture? when the delivery arrived, it contained two tins. One was opened and slugs were rolling everywhere. I informed Umarex, and have received no response. Beware of sluds not fitting r our rifle.

Stainless Steel barrel - how to blacken

3 of these barrels arrived to me with a very last train from ebay/Russia back in Feb.2022.
These are Russian Stainless Steel #1045 material, much softer then we got used here in America, I learned this I had to rework the muzzle end threads on the lathe and the cutting chip is well defined also I recrown them to my liking, and I got a feel the steel is a bit softer.
This .22x500 barrel is mounted to my L2, 15.5" TR polygonal rifling - non chocked - is a MOA accurate with .22 MRD's up to 75 meters this far I have it documented.
I would like to make it black as much the L2 handguard, but I did not decided yet to blue/black only the portion at front that is sticking out or the entire length.
Couple years ago I purchased two Birchwood packages for aluminum and steel tuch-ups if needed anywhere on my airguns, but stil never opened these bottles yet, so I don't know nothing how those work.
What other DIY tricks would you suggest from your experience? Sending out for ceracoating at my place is not budget friendly.
