She’s a natural!

My 7 year old wanted to shoot Airguns with me. She was struggling with handling a rifle length of pull and eye relief and what not so I through together a 1322 with red dot on it. And what a difference! Her first 5 shot group! (Rested of course). Guess I gotta paint it pink now haha

External ballistics question about non wind-induced drift....slugs specifically.

The situation....
Pellets and slugs from the same gun/scope/barrel, at about the same fpe. Scope set up for zero of 60-65 yards with both. Impact points track in a vertical line fairly well until about 80 yards, whereupon the the slugs start to drift to the right. By 100 yards the slugs are hitting about 1-1.25inchs to the right of the pellets. And the slugs only drift more and more to the right as distance increases. This was seen over the summer on long shots on critters, but I always assumed it was a slight wind that I could not see causing the drift. Yesterday evening I finally tried the slugs on paper at 174 yards, right before dark and essentially no wind. @174 yards the slugs are hitting about 12-15 inches to the right of the crosshairs. They'll still group pretty dang good, but that group is off to the right of my crosshairs if I hold dead center.

Were it not for the zeros of both projectiles lining up at 60-65yards I would simply chalk it up to two different projectiles impacting in different places.

The slugs seem to have a golf ball shanking sort of effect, specifically curving off to the right. It is predictable and consistent, and is simply something that needs accounted for, much like the trajectory arc. On all long connecting shots I have to hold to the left of the desired impact point.

I'm vaguely remembering seeing some related comments about slugs behaving opposite of pellets when rifling twist rates are taken into account, but I'm not sure that applies here.

Is this a rifling situation?
Is this something I'd see with pellets or slugs, but the pellets don't hold accuracy well enough at 175ish yards to see it so drastically?
This is happening, and not in just an isolated manner. I'm not trying to prevent it or "fix" it. It just is. But what is it called and what is the "why" behind it?

What the "Fat Boy", should have been

On one hand, I like the way that the (original) Huma Suppressors work. I've never tried the M50 "wrapped" suppressor. It seems that Huma is going away from the Kevlar wrapped design and going to a baffled design (???), so I'll never get to try the original wrapped version.

BUT...another brand has stepped up and built a Kevlar wrapped, chambered..."Behemoth" suppressor . Edgun has built a giant or Behemoth, suppressor. It's got a quick detach adapter for those with short gun cases.
It's about a 50mm diameter, and also like the Huma design, it has sections that can be added or removed that change its length.
It's more than a fair price from Utah Airguns, I took a chance and bought one.

I put it on my AirMaks, Caiman, .22, shooting about 820 or so fps. I've heard the term..."church mouse quiet" before, and never really knew what that meant. I do now. This big Edgun suppressor...IS...church mouse quiet.

There's just the lightest..."pfft"...out of the end of the suppressor. But now, it sounds like all of the mechanical things going on under my ear have tripled in sound ! I tried two different weight pellets, with the same outcome...very quiet.

The only thing I really don't care for is the way that they designed the quick detach adapter. It adds an inch (guessing) or so of overall length to the assembly.

I'll be trying on a couple of different guns in the future, and despite its size, may buy more.

Defiantly worth a look to those that want quiet.

Squirrel hunting experience and knowledge

Happy New Year!
I was curious on what my fellow tree squirrel hunters regard how best to hunt squirrels in the winter? Time of day, sunny/cloudy, wind/no wind, temps, etc. Now this is not baiting them but just going out to hunt them. I have nothing against baiting I just don't hunt them that way. I usually just hunt creeks and patches a tall timber. I have a shot plenty while deer hunting over corn(because I always carry an air rifle with me-lol). I'm talking about just going squirrel hunting only and when you decide to go and why.

Thanks
Jon

Kral Arms  Empire XS

Hello All,

I’m looking to purchase an Empire XS .22 . I missed the sale at Krale. I wrote them to see if they have any left but haven’t heard back yet. It looks like a company called Mundilar Airguns has them for $600. Has anyone purchased from them? I saw one currently on the classified section here but I’ve never bought or sold on it and all the warnings of scammers scare me.
Thanks

Very sad …

Super sad.

The airline at the airport did not allowed me to bring my Sidewinder .30 with me to the hunting. Reason: the rifle had pressure in the bottle.

They requested me to take out all the air from the bottle, to remove the bottle and the valve of the bottle in order to confirm I had nothing inside the bottle and to let the rifle travel as luggage.

I did not had a fast way to empty the bottle nor to remove the valve of the bottle. So……. No hunting with my air rifle in this mule deer hunting…..

I will have to digest the daily frustration of not seeing anything on every try…. That digestion will have to be without the positive reward of the air rifle.

….. I may not show my sorrow to my companions….. I need to adopt an artificial happy face……
