Raccoon down and out!

This pest been crapping along my back fence for a year! This year I started feeding the birds and baiting in front of my bullet trap. Tonight was his last trip!
The job was given to my AEA Ultralight air rifle spitting crosman 14.3 hp 850+fps at 16 yard. Not much death action fell where he was at feet action for a couple mins.

Air Arms  The story of Norma Jean, my Blonde TX200

I picked up my used TX200 in September 2023, about 1 month before EBR. It was a basic TX200 in a factory stock. After testing a few pellets, the H&N 10.65 squeaked by the best group.

Had a few practice sessions on the bench at 50 yards. I then shot it at EBR at the 50 yard benchrest competition. The wind was howling and a lot of colorful words were heard up and down the shooting line…..Well, we did pretty good and got the Silver medal. Missed Gold by 3 points. Podium was Tony T, Tony P. Tony S. Yeah they had to call us up by last name😂

image000000.JPEG

I put a Vortek kit in it and continued my journey with the TX. Tony T. was selling a LP Custom birch laminate stock unfinished that I couldn’t resist. I used 2 coats of Odie’s oil and 1 coat of Odie’s wax keeping the stock blonde. Team Centercut likes to name their rifles. It was Mike who said Norma Jean….Heck the stock even has a beauty mark on the cheek rest so Norma Jean she became.

IMG_6657.jpg

Next competition was the Sonoran Classic Grand Prix and I competed with Norma Jean. After 2 days of shooting we won the Silver Medal again. Missed the Gold by 4 points. Who was on the podium you may ask 🤔….Tony T. Tony P. and Tony S. 😱 We all were shooting TX200’s.

IMG_6971.jpg

At the Sonoran Classic I spoke to Cameron K., a springer guru, and he shot Norma Jean. He said she was shooting a little hot and could use some internal smoothing out. He said he could have her done and back to me before the Arizona Piston/Springer State Championship. I pulled the workings out of the stock and handed them to Cameron. About 4 days later I received a package at my front door and Cameron had worked his magic on her.

Back into the stock and pellet testing. I had 4 days until the State Match to get her ready. Well a surprise to me was this time the H&N pellets came in 2nd. A beat up old tin of QYS 9 grainers took the top spot. They didn’t squeak by, they blew by. So I set up the ranging wheel and at a local practice match I whopped Tony T’s butt!!!! I also won my 5 dollars back I had lost at the Sonoran Classic from him. 😎

The big day arrived, but my springer mentor, Tony T couldn’t make it. We had a 52 shot course and Norma Jean nailed it! We got 49 out of 52, the top score out of all shooters. Norma Jean took the Gold Medal and the Arizona State Springer Championship home. Terry and Scott had a shoot off with 44 each and Terry pulled off second place.

ISIMG-1019633.jpg

Well Norma Jean and I are signed up for the Cajuns in a few weeks. Barbara and I will be down that way so why not. But alas my mentor and good friend Tony T. won't be there.

A big thanks goes out to

Dale @drpietrzak for helping me with all my questions on shooting a Springer off a bench. He got hammered with questions because it is my first springer....

Mark K. for teaching me how to take the rifle apart and where to lube it.

Tony T for working with me on how to shoot a springer and helping me get it all sighted in for HFT the first time. He is also great to shoot with. Not the best looking cheerleader, but always there with positive and supportive comments. He is always rooting for you to knock down the targets.

Cameron K. @Kerndtc for taking the time talking to me and handing out a few pointers at the practice line. Of course for the outstanding work he did tuning up Norma Jean

Tony P.

What the heck - never seen one of these

So I'm doing some digging for a friend and come across this picture(s) of two Team Crosman shooters who are holding Marauders in a stock which is something the likes of which i have never seen: @Airgun-Revisions question ? does Crosman have a FT team?

FX  Wildcat MK3 BT Random FPS Drop in Shot String (Update Post #16- 4/12/24)

UPDATE: 4/12/24 Post #16

Recently acquired a used Wildcat MK3 BT in .30 cal, 600mm barrel and a 580cc CF bottle.

I have been shooting it to get accustomed and after having shot about 200 + pellets (JSB 44.75 gr) I took to my chronograph to see how it is shooting.

With the power wheel set to 7, I noticed over a 36 shot string that it will shoot consistently but 3-4 shots will be 30-35 fps lower than the average. My rear manometer (WIKA) is set around 118-120 BAR and do not see it move around from shot to shot. Have not checked the front regulator pressure yet.

I have attached a few pictures of the area of the pellet probe and the reg gauges for reference

Another thing (see attached picture) is that every time I shoot, a puff of air comes out this hole in the barrel. Is this normal? Should there even be a hole there?

Thank you for the input.

See my string shot below and please advise what could be causing this issue.

TTTT, Thomas Tuner Testing Today

This is the first opportunity I’ve had to shoot my new HPX since last fall so it was great to be outside again shooting for the first time in 2024. I had this tuner left over from another project so I thought I’d see what kind of results I’d have using it on my HPX. I’ve got a LOT more testing to do but it shows some initially good results. Its really hard to improve on an already awesome rifle but it’s fun to do some testing.

IMG_8402.jpeg

On bull 24 I decided to try a meager attempt at what Mike does, shooting a 25 shot group, but my skills pale in comparison to his. All shooting was with unsorted, straight from the tin MRDs at 50Y outdoors.

The red numbers are tuner settings.

I tested some mid-weight pellets today

At the Misenheimer Ranch. Figured I’d pass along my findings.

1. The True Ballistic Chronograph is super easy to setup & use. I lined it up directly beneath the muzzle and it didn’t miss a single shot.
2. Atmospheric conditions affect the BC! Use the FX Radar app and select the option “send local weather to device”.
3. If possible record data out to 100y+. The BC most definitely changes as the velocity decreases.
4. While an average BC can be useful, multiple BC points are even better.

Kalibrgun  Is Kalibrgun late in technology advances?

There are many new rifles that seem to be ahead in making changes to make rifles more accurate and adjustable.

I have never owned a Kalibrgun rifle. I know they are known to be accurate.

What I do not know is if those rifles abandoned the effort of getting better.

We see Airgun Technology efforts with Vulcan 3, Vulcan 3 HP, Uragan 2.

We see the effort of Epic Two to have an super rifle in the market.

We see RTI effort to give the market with the Mora.

We constantly see FX with new models, some of those are REALLY good rifles.

The point is that my perception is that Kalibrgun is the equivalent Air Force at Czec Republic, that means absolutely negligent to evolve.

Am I wrong?

HW/Weihrauch  A HW77 and a half

A week ago I took delivery of 3 rifles. Everyone is happy. Just my luck the next day Friday I see an add for this. A HW77 tuned by Venum. Had to act fast.
IMG_8274.jpeg
Very touchy situation, and I knew it. I was scared. I mentioned to my wife there was a really nice rifle for sale. I got that “your dead“ look and was told no way, forget it. I used all my trump cards and charm, l thought it was going to be death by unga bunga.
I talked to the owner of the 77 and was forced to score.
IMG_8276.jpeg
He was a class act. Did a great job packing.
IMG_8278.jpeg
Custom stock.
IMG_8279.jpeg
Has a nice cut out for the thumb, super comfortable.
IMG_8280.jpeg

The original owner lived in the Bahama’s. Had the rifle shipped to the UK. for a fine tune in 1989. He shot it for 20+ yrs. then moved to Canada. And sold it to my contact. He said he only shot it a few times, then it’s been a safe Queen. I’m putting it in my rotation, I’m shooting it.
IMG_8284.jpeg
He said these were a favorite. Never seen before. Gave me a tin full.
IMG_8275.jpeg
IMG_8281.jpeg
I only shot 3 through it and it’s clean. A sound I need on my other rifles. Really looking forward to shooting it. Tomorrow hopefully I’ll crony it. I’m stoked. Crow …….Happy Easter
Oh my wife saved the marriage.

One for you hobby lathe machinist!

I have a medium sized lathe, while it can produce some good results, heavy cuts and particularly parting off or long boring bars causes chatter, and as everyone machinist knows once is starts it’s difficult to get rid of.

After watching numerous YouTube clips I decided to remove the compound slide and replace it with a solid lump of steel under my quick change tool post. This is clamped to the cross slide by 4 tee nuts. All I can say is WOW! What a difference, I can now double the feed rate and quadruple the depth of cut with no issues. Lighter cuts are giving a better surface finish and parting off is a doddle, chatter is now a thing of the past.
It cost me £60 for all the materials and about 5 hours of machining but time and money well spent 👍

Another couple of tips that I picked up to reduce chatter, under the parting off tool put a strip of sheet copper before clamping down or a piece of soldering wire wrapped around a boring bar. I don’t fully understand why this works but it does.

Hatsan  Definitely the dumbest airgun Ive ever bought

But after taking a handful of shots with the .30 cal break barrel I have no regrets 😆 The gun is actually much easier to cock than anticipated and its holding minute of squirrel with the irons at 25yds. Going to be a fun weekend I think.

Diana  Resealed my first springer!

A while back I saw a post saying there was a Diana Model 6 for sale on eBay. Not many people were bidding on it, probably because it needed new seals. I ended up winning the auction for a great price. I bought new seals and researched how to disassemble this old gem. New seals came in and I started the disassembly. Came to a halt when I couldn’t remove the cog caps. Seemed like they were epoxied on there. Put it away for a few weeks as I contemplated sending it off to David Slade or trying to remove them with some leather and channies. Said to hell with it and was able to remove the caps without marring them. Luckily the cogs were in excellent condition.
IMG_0018.jpeg

Next, I Jerry rigged an old dewalt clamp to be my compressor as mentioned in one of the tutorials. Removing the spring revealed a decrepit front seal that was stuck to the front of the tube. I let it soak in acetone then used a sharpened plastic cleaning rod to scrape it out. Smoothed out any sharp edges in the tube, replaced the seals, applied a little krytox and buttoned everything back up. The rear seal didn’t look too bad but I replaced it anyway. I noticed it doesn’t have a parachute like the new seal.

IMG_0019.jpeg

Took the first shot and couldn’t help but smile as the pellet travelled out of the barrel with no recoil. Shooting a recoilless springer is something that must be experienced by every airgunner. It’s like a magic trick. You pull the trigger and it doesn’t even feel like a pellet came out.

IMG_0106.jpeg

I dont have many .177 pellets on hand but it’s showing some good accuracy. I bet it could get even better with the right pellet. Here’s 5 shots at 15 yards with 10.3 JSBs. Shot off a split log.

IMG_0104.jpeg

None of this would’ve been possible with out the knowledge shared from @Motorhead, @Feinwerk, @marflow and @Bigragu. These guys shared the tutorials and tips I used to get this done. Also, thanks to the guy (sorry don’t remember your handle) who posted about it being on eBay. Without that post I wouldn’t have this unique piece.

*don’t know why my pics are not coming out.

GX L3 AND FILTRATION

Hey Folks need guidance again I plan on purchasing the GX L3 compressor in the next couple months. I need help selecting the correct filter system.
I'm completely lost after days of reading comments here and youtube vids. To me there are conflicting opinions which imop contradicts all suggestions especially for a dunce like me.
I've read and looked at photos where one and or two filters are used.

So I'm lost..lol.
A little background:
I only want the compressor to fill my rifle.
I have a BSA Lonestar .25, a Avenger .25 ans soon will have a Uragan2 .30

I have an scba but it gets depleted real quick after filling my Avenger ( never to max) and anticipating the Urgan2 will add to that.
I have access to free air at a paintball facility 5 min from home but they are only open Sat and Sunday.
I want to take the compressor out to my hunting and target areas. Just covering all the angles.
So, there you have it! I need a turnkey solution of all parts and pieces needed for safe efficient filtration. Better yet if anyone lines near Greenwood/Indianapolis I'd appreciate picking your brain and reviewing your setup.
Thanks as always ,
Gary
