Top home 4500 psi compressor choices?

It has been a few years since exercising the big bore members of the "team". The dive shop that is local, does not want to fill my tank past 3800 as they have had in the past. I have been told that there are more compressor choices than there was 7-8 years ago.
Are there a couple of models that are leading the pack for the big bore/ large volume crowd? Thank you all in advance for the reply.

Is my FX Maverick front regulator toast?

My .25 Maverick Sniper had been shooting fine, but the other day the FPS was all over the place (like +/- 75 fps) and I'm pretty sure I no longer heard the plenum fill up between shots. I had never touched the regulator pressures since I've owned the gun, just swapping in the heavy slug liner and the 'Slug Power Kit'. Rear reg was set at like 110 bar from Utah Airguns, front reg shows like 135 bar right now. The bottle is at 200 bar. I was going to increase the front reg pressure, but in every video about Maverick tuning, there is an audible hiss after just like a quarter turn CCW of the front reg screw; I was up to at least 4 turns CCW without a single sound, and the reg gauge never budged from 135 bar (yes, the brass set screw that bypasses the rear reg is open/flush with housing for this step).

Is the reg pressure not changing in response to turning the front reg screw CCW an indication of a failed front regulator? Or something else? Should I keep turning the front reg screw CCW until something happens? It's not obvious how deep the front reg set screw is in its housing; it's buried down there.

Thanks

What to try to get next?

Since getting pummeled currently with bidenomics. Decisions become more difficult with resale being more challenging, but that's another issue. I personally desire another gun or two, who doesn't? I know. but also desire another great white tank and an Alkin compressor. Question is, which is next? I could get an Alkin from pyramid on affirm for a year. same for the guns, the great white doesn't have that option. I can only do 1 of these this year obviously, what would be your choice? No right or wrong, just your opinion and reasons.

Deal on 'Hades' .22 cal Pellets

EDIT: Sorry but these have gone OOS as noted by Boostcreep below. Restock date says 7/9, but who knows?

I think that this is a great deal on a 'Hades' pellet. FX branded, but we all know that JSB makes FX pellets. Showing $5.00 off at $15.99 for a tin of 500 @ PyramydAir, or 3.2 cents each before discounts (4 for the price of 3, plus discount codes, etc.). No quantity limits currently listed.

Regular JSB Hades pellets are 4.6 cpr @ $22.99 per tin.

Damaged Skirt Pellet Testing

20220624_210607.jpg

Got bored and decided to run a quick test to see the effects of damaged skirts on accuracy. I was honestly a little surprised with the results.

Undamaged Pellets Groups:

20220624_204613.jpg

The picture above shows two seperate 10x shot groups taken at 30m. The group on the left is just 10 pellets pulled at random from the tin and sent down range. The group measured 0.395" CTC.

The group on the right is with 10 pellets pulled from the tin but each skirt was examined for any defects. If none were found, they were sent towards the target. That group measured 0.318". Pretty solid improvement if you ask me.

Damaged Pellets Group:

20220624_204648.jpg

Here is where it gets interesting for me though. Picture #3 was 10 shots with more than just a little skirt damage. You can get a rough idea of what these pellets looked like from the first picture. One of these pellets had both sides of the skirt literally touching in the center. I was expecting an 1.5"+ from this group. What I got was 0.621".... I can live with that any day of the week.

I guess what I learned is that I shouldn't waste "bad" pellets. I wouldn't use them for hunting or in a match but for plinking? All day.

New format ?

RIP AGN ! I wasn't thrilled when I first encountered the new format! I saw a lot of unhappy members. But, I thought only fair to give it a chance. So, I mucked about for a couple of weeks now, and maybe I haven't gotten it figured out, but it seems to me, not much new happening on here. I think alot of those who were unhappy have gone by by. The classifieds are a pain. The forums are lame. Maybe after a year on here, it is just too repetitive. I suppose I may have a need to visit the site in the future, but unless I am stuck in the waiting room at the Docs, won't be wasting time here.

BIG BIG ZAN news, but BIG😁

Hello,

We added new 36 grain slug in .22 caliber to our offer.
Many of you were asking for a heavier then 33grain and lighter then 40 grain .22 slug so we came up with that one.

I hope you didn't get confused to much with the thread name, but word BIG is just so popular nowadays in airgun industry 😁

Stay well and enjoy shooting that is what it is all about,

The old question? Do you clean your barrel?

Hello everyone,

I know that this subject has been covered many times but with new products and new guns on the market I felt like it was time for an update. FX tells me in the Owners manual to shoot several “cleaning pellets” through the barrel to keep it clean. OK, just over a week ago I had removed the barrel for an adjustment and completed a really thorough cleaning. Since then I have shot a little over 500 rounds down the barrel and shot cleaning pellets about every 100 shots. Today I decided to shoot more cleaning pellets and they were really dirty, all 5 of them. So I put a clean cotton swab on the rod and ran it down the barrel and it was also dirty, see the photo of the swab and what wiped off on the shop towel ( the towel is a lot dirty than the photo shows ). I then pulled a cleaning plug soaked with Ballistol down the barrel and it too came out dirty. I then pulled a second plug and it came out clean.

My point is, all that “gunk” has to effect the pellet to some degree. So now comes the question (s);
1) Do you clean your barrel
2) How often do you clean
3) How do you clean

Be safe and have a great day,
ThomasT

FX - Stop the marketing hype!

FX - I applaud your continued product innovation. However, please stop releasing products that are not available until several months after the announcement date. In some cases, they never reach the market and get buried.

I understand you are likely trying to create "Apple-ish" marketing hype and that's fine before the product release. Be prepared to deliver your product a couple of weeks afterward though. I don't want to hear the COVID, hiring, or logistic excuses. We all have them and found solutions to workaround.

Time for a new compressor

Last year after some 30 or so hours I seized the crank arm, replaced the whole piston + cylinder. But noticed a small crack on the aluminum housing (just above that upper rib) probably because of the stress when seized.
It was just a matter of time something to happen.
Here me go now shopping for a new. I think it will be YH again.

Prophet Compact: Plenum + Tuning + Power + Bottle

RTI Prophet Compact Performance .22cal:
🔺 Plenum + Tuning + Power + Bottle 🔺

❓ Do you know what to do when you bought a gun — but it hasn't been delivered yet?
➔ Yupp, you can shoot it in your mind, tune it in your mind, set up a new Strelok file, gather the ammo for the first day of testing, clear a spot to store it, order o-rings, aftermarket performance parts, accessories....
OR:
Pester your fellow forum members with questions!

➔ I've done the above. Stopped short of selling a kidney to pay for it all.
Now it's time to get on the forums....! 🤣

🔶 Before you answer any or all of my questions (simply refer to the number) — I want to make sure we're all on the same page:

I only have a CF tank, and I can't drive clear across town to get it refilled (because my town is the size of a country, 10 million+).
Therefore, my average pressure I can put into the gun's airtube is mostly going to be less than 300bar.
➔ Average pressure available in my bottle I'd say is going to be 250bar.

I'm looking for this tune in .22cal:
• 33-36FPE
• 18.13gr to 18.5gr pellets
• 900 to 950fps MV
• I'll play with slugs as well
• 5 to 100 yards
• I want to do pellet BC testing, which requires frequent power setting changes

• • • • • • •

❓Q1 • Extended plenum: By how much would I increase my shot count (ballpark figure)? (this is the Compact Performance version, and I assume 250bar in the bottle)

❓Q2 • Extended plenum: I am somewhat concerned for a quiet tune — i.e., rather shorter sips of air at higher pressure — than longer gulps of air at lower pressure.
Would the ext. plenum favor that kind of quiet tune — in the Compact Prophet — or does it move me into louder?

❓Q3 • Extended plenum: Any other advantages or disadvantages of using the ext. plenum?

❓Q4 • Regulator adjusting: What are the proper steps to change the regulator setting — not to mess things up? (This is my first gun with external adjustment.)

❓Q5 • Larger bottle: What options are out there to use a larger bottle on the Compact? (price, link?) (The bottle must not hinder the use of a large DFL silencer.)

❓Q6 • Other advice: Do you have any other recommendations for me?

Thank you all! 😊

Matthias

Freshly short stroked TX200, 10 Dimes at 30m. I think it may be a winner.

Made a post yesterday about short stroking my TX200 and today I got the chance to actually test it out without unpredictable wind wreaking havoc. Well, I think I'm going to leave well enough alone here. There was only one questionable shot out of 30 (AND IT WAS #30 OF COURSE!) and even that one was only barely touching the line. I got excited and aimed my crosshairs over the pellet hole instead of the bullseye so that is on me. Anyway, I am super excited to keep seeing what this "new" girl can really do!

.25 cal Impact M3 grouping

First time at the indoor range with my brand new Impact 25 cal 700mm barrel. My set up is as follows for my question. STX barrel set with the slug port open. DonnyFL moderator.
1. 250 bar fill
2. Reg 1 @160 bar
3. Reg 2 @100 bar
Macro 15
Micro 4
29 gr NSA slugs. Slugs were lightly lubed with WD40 silicone spray the day prior. The chronograph string is as follows after 26 shots at 50 yards.
High-974 fps
Low-935 fps
Average-956
Spread-39
Std Dev-14.9
The group started on the bottom and steadily climbed and basically settled at the top with the raged hole happening at about 940 fps. I’m very new with the impact and very much aware that it’s basically infinitely adjustable and I’m very welcoming of ideas.
I’m very curious as to why the POI changed steadily in a vertical direction while making zero adjustment to the aim point, shooting off an accutac bipod, using a rear bag for support. Is it simply a matter of the gun breaking in? Did the silicone lube potentially cause this?

Im afriad i hurt my wildcat bt

Howdy felluhs!

So I'm trying to learn to tune my wildcat bt by myself but I'm afraid I may have caused damage.

So I was setting my second reg pressure to 150, but was being an idiot and wasn't paying attention to my bottle pressure. So when I refilled the bottle it turns out my 2nd reg was maxed out to atleast 200 bar. I immediately shot out all the air and properly set the second reg. Do you guys think I caused any damage? My gun seems to be working OK right now. Just shooting alittle weak bit I assume that's because I haven't set my hammer tension yet. What do you guys think? I certainly won't be doing that again, lesson learned

In Regards to RMAC and my experience

This was the first of many RMAC’s that I plan on attending, and I have to say it truly was an experience one would have to see for themselves. I finally decided to quit talking about going and committed myself to being there!
We all throw out tidbits on the forums about this airgun community being awesome, but let me tell you all, I’ve witnessed it first hand. All the people I met, from the movers and shakers in our industry to the famous youtuber’s, and lastly to the newbies like myself, it was an unbelievable experience. Way better than going to Disneyland as a kid, no lie.

In this thread I wanted to give a big shout out to Utah Airguns and the staff that ran it. I was able to catch a few names- Travis, Alex, Jayden, Tanner, all did a great job from being a range master all the way to shuttling people around in golf carts to making sure there was plenty of air for the guns and water to keep the shooters hydrated. They literally made me feel like I was a Frederick Axxelson, Steve from AEAC, or a Cecil from Hatsan.

The registration process was totally well organized, and the way everyone was given ample range time for sight in was great.

I got to meet DonnyFL, the fx staff, the Hatsan team, AEAC Steve, AGN Michael, Cyclops Joe Reah, and famous team shooters like CENTERCUT Mike, Dereck Wall, The Daystate crew, yeah I had a blast.

I didn’t place as high as I would’ve liked but for a first timer I didn’t do bad, especially when just a few months ago I had never shot past 50 yards.

If any of you are the ones that keep saying “someday I’d like to attend”, like I did for years, well, put it in your calendar and start saving up. You won’t regret it!

Oh, and for sure practice! This is not something you want to go into and you just shot a few targets the week before, lol

Next Stop- EBR!
