Umarex  Umarex Zelos, how are we feeling?

hello everyone. so the airgun geeks YouTube channel just posted a new video on the new umarex Zelos (
). a lot of us know that is is simply just the snowpeak m60 with the umarex name on it, but at $599 are we thinking that's reasonable? to my knowledge its a bit tricky to get an m60 in the US and when you can Im thinking its around that same price anyway. I think I like how the gun looks, and overall I think the gun could be really really cool, but is it worth the $600? personally I think it is...but I want to hear what you guys think, let me know!

Theoben  .20 Beeman Crow Magnum

Got a new toy toy in the mail today! I'd wanted an Eliminator in .20 ever since watching Kevin shoot his .25 on the Pellets and Pistons YouTube channel. After a member here graciously offered to let his go I couldn't get my wallet out fast enough.

20240220_134533.jpg

I opened the box and the seller had gone above and beyond and shipped it in a protective hard case. When I opened it I was definitely taken back for a moment. He had sent plenty of pictures but they didn't do this thing justice. It is beautiful in person!

Well as soon as I was done cleaning the drool off of myself and the floor I took it over to the shooting bench. I went to cock it and the barrel cracked open just a hair. I pulled hard and nothing. Pulled harder with both hands and FINALLY it cocked back. Loaded up a pellet and shot it. It was loud lol. Definitely not an HW30S. I pulled the valve plug on the back and released a couple spurts or air. Cocked it again (still a beast but manageable for my little arms) and shot one over the chrono.

20240220_155344.jpg

NEARLY 29FTLBS! Thats awesome but I don't need all of that. I proceeded to release air and chrono it until cocking it was more manageable but still put out some impressive numbers. I ended up right at ~24fpe. Still not an all day shooter but at least I can cock it easily enough now. I'll probably end up bringing it down to Hunter Class power levels around 19.5fpe. That will be easy on the arms and still a pretty decent laser.

Here are my first 30m groups with the Crow Mag shooting the JSB 13.4gr pellets. Grouping pretty well for a "new" gun IMO

Umarex  Umarex Notos mod

I done a side lever mod today. It works great and cost less than 10 bucks. It can go back to stock if I wanted it to. The only thing that I can't put back is the little notch I cut out of the stock for the handle to set in. I put 60 pellets through it and I really like it.

Huben  Huben GK1 celebration

IMG_0583.jpeg
My GK1 (v1#67) just finished its 66th 150ct tin of .22 GTOs. That’s 9900 of em, costing in total more than I paid for the GK1. Since I’ve also shot at least 100 other projectiles (being conservative here), I’m calling this it’s 10000-shot celebration.

In that time, it has actually just got better, or perhaps that’s me getting better at shooting it, or both. It consistently shoots 1/2” (or less) groups at 50 yards with GTOs at 900fps and has never failed to shoot, jammed, or had any other issue. All original parts including the gate, which works very well with no seating needed for GTOs - just clicking 2 in at a time. It just gets filled and shot and shot and shot and shot, 250bar to 190 and the mag and air (nitrogen in my case) are reloaded. The barrel gets cleaned every 3 tins from the front with a rod and retractable patches - 5min job. I use it mostly for fun (spinners and targets), pesting (99% rats) and it goes hiking and Xcountry skiing in my pack. It has sported red dots, prisms, a $3k thermal and currently is fitted with a bugbuster, which I use to shoot precisely from a rice bag with short eye relief at 10X or using a freehand taco hold at 3X, which allows quite a bit of eye relief. It spent most of its life with an Impulse Air 1200 mod, then I made the shroud active, and now it is wearing @subscriber ‘s oval mod, which makes it sound like tapping a nail.

IMG_0745.jpeg

Here is my celebratory 50y, 5 shot group. I pushed out the boat and used a splatter target, which I then peeled off to show how good this thing really is. It does this all day every day, in semi auto, with a sublime trigger that tapped two into a raccoon dome 1/4 inch and 1/4 second apart.

IMG_0743.jpeg

IMG_0744.jpeg

Because there is no reg (to creep), the icing on the cake is that it will hit your point of aim every time you pick it up. It’s the perfect pesting instrument. Quiet, handy and absolutely clinical.

Ill end with a great quote from our friend Manny (@Nomadic Pirate 66) who posted this very early in the main Huben GK1 thread, before release:

“I've been searching for a PCP pistol that fits my needs for over a decade and a half now,...the Huben might well be nirvana.”

Manny seems to have a pretty good crystal ball, but did he envision that V1 issue #67 would make it to 10k shots without a single hiccup? I think that’s pretty remarkable for a semi…

FX .25 cal 700mm “Superior Slug” liner

I bought one of these over a year ago, and recently was planning on installing it in my Impact.
I cleaned the liner, and looking at it I can see the pressed in grooves on the outside, but looking inside the liner it appears to be smooth bore with just a hint of rifling. Definitely nothing like all the other FX liners I’ve looked at.

Has anyone else ran in to this issue? I know this Superior Slug was made after the Superior Heavy and before the Slug.
I’m guessing it won’t shoot very well. 😞

Since FX never publicly admits their mistakes, is this something that happened and was brushed under the rug?

2024 CS4 SETUP

So I received my CS4 on 19 Feb 2024. Took the case apart to install an hour meter (which didn't work like I wanted it to, so ordered a different one).

Removed the small pre-filter and installed my homemade one with color-changing silica beads in it. (Two 3/4" PVC caps, tube wrapped with electrical tape to make a snug fit. Intake end has holes drilled in it, output end has a 3/8" brass pipe fitting to mate with the brass elbow into the compressor head).
1708412447665.png

Had some rusty water inside the bag when it arrived. No large debris in the water tank, but I flushed it about five times with tap water until it ran clear (was a little murky at first). Then put some Dawn dish soap in the reservoir and ran it for a couple of minutes, then began flushing it. After several fill/run/flush cycles, it was running clear. Then I purged the system completely of water, and finished by filling it with 250 ml of distilled water.

Connected some LED strips to the coolant hoses to make the water flow easy to see when running. Soldered them to the pump contacts so that they come on when the power switch is switched on.
1708412487812.png

Also added a 4-sensor temperature logger, but one sensor (to the motor) is faulty. Waiting on the seller to get back to me on a replacement. Have the sensors on the Head, Coolant tank, Motor, and Ambient air for tracking purposes. (Temps are - MHCA - Motor, Head of cylinder, Coolant tank, Ambient)

(Start of the 2-hour break-in run)

(Temps after 30 minutes)

Currently running the compressor for two hours with no load, though I saw nothing about that in the owner's manual, only saw it here on AGN. Where did this info come from?

Sadly, mine is one of the non-fluted cylinders. Darn the bad luck!

Parts:
Hour meter #1: (returned because it is too large and the backlight won't come on when the power switch is turned on) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C539D7R8

Replaced with this one. Smaller footprint, allowed me to install it in the back of the lower case, as opposed to the top cover, which would require disconnecting wires every time I opened the case:

New idea for a crossover long range event

So I've been dabbling in NRL22 lately and I have had another one of my dumb ideas. In NRL22, they have a monthly course of fire that all of the clubs shoot, and each club usually adds some extra stages as well. In each months course of fire, they include instructions for Adaptive Class for shooters that are not as mobile as they used to be. For example, a stage might have you shooting back and forth from a tripod and prone. For Adaptive class, you would use a 55 gallon drum instead of going prone.
A club where I have been shooting NRL22 takes this a step further and lets shooter shoot the course of fire from benches. No moving, just sitting at the bench shooting the targets.

So my brilliant idea was to add an un-official FT class. Shooters could shoot the course of fire off of a seat with sticks, just like long range FT. And any stage with a lot of standing could be shot standing off of sticks.

It would be more challenging than long range FT because the NRL22 targets are generally smaller (range is 40 to 100 yards, target sizes are 1/4" to 3") and you have to shoot 10-12 rounds in 2 minutes (oops, we just lost Ron), but it might be a good way to get more use from your long range air guns. And the NRL22 rules allow slugs up to .25 caliber, pellets only at .30 caliber.

Is this something you, as a long range FT shooter, would be interested in trying? Assuming a match was fairly close and price was $20 or less? Throw a reply down here to let me know what you think. Especially if you are local to me, as this may go from theoretical to practical in the next couple of months. If you aren't sure if you are local to me, you aren't. Trust me, the people that are local to me know it all too well.

FX  M3 .....Maybe, just Maybe got it right!

Well , it seems that my M3 with its current setup/config is finally behaving itself.

Over the past few weeks i have taken it out to fire a group every few days .... to see how it does , and It has been doing very well!!

Routine is full 250bar charge ... ( i dont fire under 200bar so approx. 30 shots before recharge ) ...... 5 shots to settle...then a 10 shot group at 120yds . I pick a day time when the wind is basically zero.

Setup..
NSA 27.5 at 1060fps
1st Reg 200bar
2nd Reg 145bar

Tungsten Hammer
Pin Probe.

Custom Carbon Fibre ( 4dia tube sections with machined spacers pressed and bonded)
FX barrel liner and original tube fully bonded with Carbon tube sections.

The whole barrel/liner assembly has NO tension on it whatsoever.....

Results form this arvo..... which are typical of what it has been doing.. :)

Scope height after zero

I am seeing to measure scope height after zero as well as velocity at a couple different distances. If I get sighted in at 35 yards then I need to get scope height? Or is it measure my scope height before and input it into the ballistic app? I’m just not understanding getting a scope height after I zero?

Also, if I run a magneto speed and only able to get a velocity at the muzzle how would you get the velocity at say 50 and 75 yards to input that information in the app?

Thanks.

Western Airguns  The mystery of the Sidewinder .25

If I shoot to targets at 50 or 88 yards, my Sidewinder .25 if not as accurate as my FX Panthera.... Or at least I can control the better the Panthera.

If I go out and shoot at long distance, the Sidewinder is extremely accurate. I just took two birds at 150 yards, easily.

So, the problem when shooting to paper targets is not a lack of accuracy, it should be something I am doing in a wrong way..... But I have not identify that yet.

Huben  Huben K1 stock refinish.

Well, I'm pretty much a walnut stock snob, kinda guy. I love them, but I'm always disappointed when the factory applies dark stain over walnut, seemingly to make the color more uniform. Maybe it's done so that no one complains about "their stock" looking different from the pics on the website.
Natural walnut does have wide variations of color and grain, (just look at both sides of my stock). Idk, but it often covers up some nice multi-shade mineral lines underneath.
So, when I received my new K1 a few weeks ago, I new right away that I would once again have to refinish, in order for ME, (snob part), to appreciate the natural wood.
So, I sanded off all the stain & pressed checkering, added some decorative caps to the grip and forearm, made from Gaboon Ebony wood, and Basswood spacer, and then applied several coats of Maccari Royal London Oil.
His oil leaves a very light honey color, seals a bit and protects the wood, and gives a nice satin rich look to MY eye, similar to many European gun stocks.
Then I had my checkering friend add some nice hand cut checkering.
The Huben comes with a combo of some pressed checkering and stippling that looks pretty nice, but it's quite smooth and not very functional imo.
Oh, and I added a rear sling QD stud, and a forearm recessed QD cup, for sling carry on my plinking woods walks.

Anyway, I'm much happier with the look, and feel, and wanted to share it with the Huben lovers on AGN.
But, I understand this is just my personal preference, and many like the darker look too.
These K1's & GK1's, are such amazing shooting machines!

Have fun!

Looking for a Walther PPK

Have joined this forum hoping to find assistance with finding a 2nd gen Umarex Walther PPK/S .177 cal BB gun. Am starting a bb hand gun collection (see "about me" in profile if you like) but the PPK is proving to be a hard find.

Am a huge history buff so begin collection with both Springfield armory and Colt versions of the 1911 and will soon adding a luger. They're not hard finds but, Wow, the PPK certainly is.

They are available from European vendors, am in process of finding out if they can deliver here to the U.S. Does anyone know?

Grew up in the era of James Bond, Cpt James T Kirk and Jim Phelps ( the original leader of the Impossible Mission force, still can't believe they made him the traitor in the 1st MI move, loved the rest of the MI movies but won't watch that one) and my name is James, so you can imagine who I often was playing games as a kid and why I want a PPK.

Also would like a Colt Hammerless 1903/1908, seen in the old MI TV series, but doesn't appear a replica BB or pellet gun is made. Anyone know if one is?

Thanks everyone

Snowpeak  Something magical happened today... M60B a sleeper?

I went back to the farm again this afternoon to do some shooting with my Impact MK2. While I was waiting for starlings/doves to return, I took some shots at my target box out at 50 yards with my Snowpeak M60B. I bought a new V9 bipod (Accutac knockoff) and was trying it out. It was working very well.

It was an overcast day with wind that was chilly to the bone. It was about 10 deg C, but felt like 5 deg C with the wind chill.
I started with the H&N Baracuda 15 (16gr) pellets and the group was decent in the wind.

I then hand loaded a NSA 17.5gr .217 slug and fired at the 50 yards box. It missed the bullseye high and right, which I knew it would happen because this gun haven't shot any NSA slugs yet. I loaded a second slug and aimed at the same bullseye. The POI was very close to the first shot. My eyes lit up! I did a quick adjustments to the elevation and windage on the new Discovery ED 4-20x52mm FFP scope. I was able to get on the bullseye with the 5th shot.

I was excited with the possibility. I quickly put up a new sheet of paper with two bullseye on it. The bullseyes were 20mm (0.787 in) in diameter.

I did the first 5 shots and the CTC was 15.32mm (0.60"). OMG, I couldn't believe what was happening. I have shot the Hades 16 gr pellets with great results, but this was incredible. I knew I could do better so I calmed myself with deep breathing and went on to the second bullseye.

I took my time and gently squeezed off these 5 shots. Remember this was in windy condition and these 17.5gr slugs cut thru the wind without much effort. The holes created with these 5 shots looked very small thru the scope view. I went and retrieved the paper immediately to have a closer look.

OMG, I knew it was less than 1/2" because the bullseye was only 0.6". I didn't have any tape measure so I used a dime and a AAA battery as a reference. When I got home, I confirmed it with my digital calliper. It was 8.74mm or 0.344" CTC.

It was shooting these NSA 17.5gr at 895 fps, about 31 ft.lb. This gun is definitely a "sleeper". I am very happy to have found the best projectile for this factory set PCP (Reg 145 bar with HS untouched from factory). To top it off, this PCP cost a lot less than my Impact MK2.

Ya, something magical happened to me today.

.22 Ghost LW Barrel Blank First Test

I had a chance to install the freshly cut barrel and probe into my Ghost.
Since it was last tuned for .30 pellets, I turned the power wheel (hammer) down from 12->7.
I was so excited to see what it would do, I didnt bother breaking out the chrony.
I just loaded up some JSB redesigns and let it rip.
Below is the first pellets shot out at 78Y
20240219_153455.jpg

I haven't tuned it or for that matter even leaded in the barrel yet. These are the first 8 shots at 75Y. Very promising! Already more accurate than the .30 factory barrel!
Those were shot from the .22 magazine I ordered from AoA also (not single shot loaded).

Heres what it looks like all put together.

20240219_155436.jpg

20240219_155443.jpg

I loaded a pellet with the barrel and probe installed and then removed the barrel to push the pellet back out using a nylon rod. Both the head and skirt were loaded into the rifling! Previous problem fixed. The factory .30 setup didnt load the pellet far enough to engage the rifling before.
I did notice the probe has some witness marks from contacting the rifling. I'll need to cut a small taper on the end to reduce the OD. I'll need to be careful not to take too much off as not to reduce the seating depth.
20240219_155514.jpg

The new .22 magazine was installed and cycled just as you'd expect. No problems.
20240219_155530.jpg

Over the next week, I'll work it in and tune it to see what kind of accuracy I can eek of of it, but Im happy so far.
I'll post follow up groups this weekend.
Thanks for lookin!
