I've done plenty with PBS from. 22cb(airgun energy but round nose bullet) up to 7 rem mag, the airgun would let me do it just on the edge of civilization more quietly and safely.

I think I'm just going to need to try and report back.
I’ve been using an airgun on them for about five years even in situations where I could use a firearm. It’s about noise. Noise at night where I live and where my camp is raises a poacher flag immediately. And it just plain old attracts attention to a person who’s legally doing something. I don’t like to be bothered or have to explain myself. Or have monkey see monkey do guys suddenly wanting to jump on board.

For me, because I spent half my life coyote free in the areas that now have them, I view them not one notch above a sewer rat. I don’t try or find anything glamorous about hunting them. I just want every one of them that I see with my eyeballs dead. Over the last 25 years or so I’ve begun to understand the eastern coyote. At my camp when they show up on a cell cam, I am loaded up and driving there within 24 hours. They seem to migrate through areas and I hunt these windows. I also see them while squirrel hunting on occasion. I have an airgun so it has to be capable. I did take out an average female with a .22 Hybrid 950fps shot to the boiler room. It was in a big white oak hollow. It ran, slowed, then flopped over. Unfortunately for it there was no nasty thicket close enough before the clock expired.

Final note different subject. Dry lube testing still going very well with that particular combo. Thanks again for redirecting my focus.

Dry lube testing?

@Cantona256 Who makes these .30 cal air rifles? Where can I view these specs and purchase?
Fx, Air Force (in .308), Skout, pretty sure the Urugan will hit that, even the AF texan will do 190fpe in .257, taipan is claiming 150fpe in .25 with the power kit. not sure about specs with the Huben K1 or the western rattler/sidewinder ext… it’s like all things with airguns you probably have to do some tuning/ tinkering to get them setup that way but it’s not really a short list. I don’t even know much about the unregulated guns besides Air Force but I’d bet there’s some AEA or Evanix that will put up a those numbers too.

If you don't care if they run if you can't recover the corpse, then it doesn't matter what you use as long as you can poke hole through both lungs or the heart. If you don't have enough energy to do that then you have to go for brain shot and risk missing for their head doesn't stay still for very long. In an urban or suburban area usually not PC leaving a corpse where it's not supposed to be. Limiting any shots to drt, I.E brain shot. I vote for penetration over expansion to guarantee gets to the vitals and through the most amount of Bones Etc.

@canton256 I expected Airforce .308 as a response. Technically .308 is not a .30 cal airgun projectile (I wouldn’t try shooting a .308 slug out of a .30 airgun unless .30 airgun slugs and .308 slugs measure/mic the same). An FX .30 doing 150+ FPE? I hadn’t heard of any models doing that. Huben doesn’t make a .30. I seriously doubt that a Westenr Rattler .30 is pushing 150 FPE. I’ve loosely looked inoton Evamos. Being familiar with a few of their .357 models, I am doubtful of an Evanix .30 doing those numbers unless you’re talking about an older model no longer produced. I’m not well versed in .30 cal airguns but Inown one and have done a fair amount t of reading when shopping around. After reading your response I must ask, Is this something that you know or were you making an assumption?

A .30 caliber producing that much power is not necessary for coyote hunting, unless one is intentionally hunting them from beyond 150 yards. If they exist and are not obscure custom builds, I’m interested in reading some solid information that can share.

Lol .30 cal isn’t enough for coyotes 😂😂😂😂😂…. Have you shot a coyote with a .30 air rifle yet? 73fpe is more than enough at 64y to drop one no problems…. 50fpe is plenty depending on the dog and shot placement..

Your first problem is the hybrid slugs. They are designed for extreme expansion but they are light for caliber. At that speed it flattened out just a little too quickly. Despite what most people think you DO want it to flatten out and not pass through. That’s the only way to make sure all of the energy is passed onto target.

If you can get them to stop facing you I like a slug right through middle chest the best. That’s also how I shot a fox with a little Umarex complete, he made it 10 yards.

My suggestion would be a traditional airgun slug around the same weight you already have. The mass is distributed differently in a normal slug. You should get more penetration before full expansion. Before anyone comes for me I literally watched my buddy drop a yote with a 75gr boattail out of a Gauntlet .30 cal last month 118yards into the chest. He moved about 5 feet before he met his maker.

I’ve seen plenty of videos of people shooting H&N slugs out of those Fx guns. Air Hunter Gerhard dropped two Barbary sheep with a .25 cal M3 shooting 44gr H&N slugs. My boss at work shot his first hog as kid with a Benjamin break barrel. I’m not suggesting you do that, just pointing out that not all FPE is created equal.

Don’t go solid ammo. You will just get pass throughs. I agree on not going for headshots. I’ve had too many coyotes and jackrabbits matrix a headshot at the last second…. But yeah the idea you don’t have enough power to drop a coyote with a Impact M3 .30cal is crazy, sorry. Not trying start arguments but it’s just a fact…. Unless you’re in BC or Saskatchewan with those massive coyotes that look like mini wolves your .30 is more than enough. Down here in the desert it’s rare to get a coyote that’s even bigger than 40lbs and they’re skinny. A 20-35 pound dog ain’t a problem for your gun.
Well said,shot placement is key
