Airforce Is Airforce Talon .177 (no P, no SS) backyard friendly if I tune it down to 700-750 fps ?

100% agree.

70+ fpe from the .25 Condor SS I've recently been playing with is surprisingly quiet. Turned down to even 55-60 and it's even quieter. I've almost been considering putting a smaller cal barrel in it and getting it around 30fpe for I'm sure impressive quietness.

A .177 Condor SS in the 700-750 fps range is going to be as quiet as most moderated airguns. Especially if the moderator being compared is one of the brands that is better at marketing than they are at hushing.

Another neat thing I'm finding with the Condor SS is that the baffles are all contained in the one piece aluminum frame. There's nothing hanging off the barrel or adaptors or a big long pickle sticking way out there. Condor SS method is a much more robust manner of hushing an airgun than the industry standard of Jerry rigging shrouds and adaptors onto the barrel itself.
you would likely really enjoy the 22 caliber barrel then.. I enjoyed shooting even 40 grain slugs at 940 fps out of mine, but the air consumption went way up.. thankful for the compressor.

😁 I always keep my count at 10 .. even when 10 is still is still to much. Just sold my .30 uragan a few months ago .. I'm in a point that will only buy if something is sold.
You exhibit MUCH better self control than I do. I believe the current count is 19. 18 functional, 1 in repair cycle.

I did sell 1 and gave 1 away last month. Then I bought 2...

You can add a moderator to the SS to make it even quieter.

End cap to 1/2-20:

Reximex Silent Force moderator works great. I have it on 1 Condor and 2 Talons.
For under $40 shipped

you are definitely wrong.. I got the adapter for my Condor SS 22 caliber and I put my Donny FL shogun moderator on it, took it off the regular Condor 22 caliber 24" barrel.. there's no difference other than you just made it longer.. it doesn't quiet the Condor SS anymore than the factory insides..
and I experimented with different pellets and different velocity.. might have been a very slight difference if you are shooting supersonic but not enough to bother with.. and my Condor SS 22 caliber would shoot 1350 fps with 14 grain crossman pellets.
but it would also shoot 40 grain slugs at 950.. and being adjustable it will shoot anything in-between well.

Remove the secondary weight on the hammer buy the DonnyFL adapter $50 + a fx moderator from trenier that is only like $65 and put some curls with felt on it buy the rimlock kit so you could try smaller ports $60 n that's it a silent back yard plinker, for less than $550
you'd be much better off getting a Condor SS.. they have them on sale as well.

If only my hands had the dexterity to handle .177 anymore. I probably droped more than I loaded before I just gave up and got rid of my .177 guns.

There was a blue .25 model d for 359 the other day. I was obviously just a little too slow and it was gone when I tried to buy it.
I just sold a blue Condor SS 22 caliber.. with a lot of accessories for $400 in the classifieds.. I actually had two listed, took quite awhile but they sold.

yes I only own 22 caliber guns.. would like to be able to shoot 177 but I'm in the same situation as you, I just can't handle 177 except for once I loaded a friend's hatsan jet with JSB beasts, they were long enough to barely handle.

I wasn't letting that one go so I sold one of my extra Doug valve.. and got one , have to pick it up on Monday.. I really didn't needed . that valve .. the TalonP valve is more than enough for what I needed.
the stock Condor ring lock valve that comes on them now is plenty..I shot my 22 caliber 24" barrel with a 14 grain pellets at full power and it was doing 1400 fps.. with the power wheel at 12.. and it was still shooting supersonic the 25 grain JSB pellets.. I forgot but I think the JSB 34 grain pellets were just under supersonic.. and it shot 40 grain slugs very well.. I only did it as a test with the chronograph because I was figuring out what setting for the various weights.. I prefer right around 950 because at my elevation if you push 1000 depending on temperature you can get a crack..then I might as well shoot my 22 LR.

Not wrong, mine was noticeable. That you didn't find any is anecdotal, just as mine is.

The stock baffles are unimpressive in my opinion. They help but are not enough for backyard friendly.

My .25 condor ss report was much less of a snap and more of a puff with a moderator. I have since upgraded to a 24" barrel so the baffles have been removed or I would put it on the DB meter.

My older model .22 talon SS came with the (i think) talon tunes 6 inch and needs it. It is less dependent upon a moderator than the .25 but still is quieter.

My .25 talon ss has been upgraded to the 24 inch barrel so it has a barrel mount adapter. Can't have the baffles and a 24 inch barrel.

I just prefer .25 and .30 now. I tend to shoot my .25s mostly. .22 are starting to get the dropsies. Too much accumulated damage, youthful exuberance catching up in my dotage.

So sad, I cant find a compact rifle that shoot .177. there are several cheap unregulator options but they interfere with my benjamin 397. I love that gun too much
I've got a 392 I consider too loud. I just bought an old discontinued benjamin discovery and out a 177 barrel on it with a tko22 moderator and it's one of the quietest I own and I got it for 215 shipped. It's at 805fps with hades pellets and near fx precision(my benchmark is fx or lw groups since I cannot afford to miss) .

I know this pricing is NOT what you're looking for, but a 177 fx dreamline with a moderator is probably the performance and quiet you're looking for but highly unacceptable on the price unless 950 for a base model is achievable.

Then theres the build your own option to out together a crosman steel breech based pcp with bottle and a Chinese lower but it overlaps with your 397 sort of, but quieter and regulated and many many shots in a 220cc bottle.

You can machine or have machined a brass adapter that slipped on my 392 and used a 3d printed airsoft moderator to quiet it down if that's a worry but alignment is often an issue.

well yeah you definitely need a moderator for the 24 barrel in a SS.. and actually I think the longer frame of the SS is better so you don't have as much unsupported barrel..I was not impressed with the front barrel bushing on the regular Condor, was not snug so if you accidentally rested the barrel you were way off..

My 397 got a scope mount from bakeairgun and thread adapter with buckrail supressor. Very silent and accuracy look beautiful too. That gun held me for years. Now I want a PCP so that 397s can have some break time. It not like 13xx series and sheridan 392, I have no idea how to disassemble that gun's pistol tube. Btw this is my second deal I ever made after that 397s. I may want a hunting license now

if you are going to get a airforce.. get a SS.. it's just as quiet as one with a additional moderator..no difference.. and yes you can turn even a Condor SS 22 down to the noise level of any PCP.. just get a ring lock kit and turn down your power wheel..
although airforce is also known as the most powerful per caliber airguns..

I had a .177 talon SS tuned to mid 800's (don't quite recall) that was pretty quiet. Just a little thwack and tank ping.

The best thing about the *venerable * AirForce platform is:
If you dont like your results there are dozens of options available. Tune up, tune down, huge power, light plinking power.
And most of the mods take 10-20 minutes.

Turn a .177 blinker into a .25 raccoon removel tool.
Swap barrels, spring, hammer and tophat.
Pop 6 or so screws out of the shroud and power wheel. Drop the barrel, spring and hammer out. Drop in the .25 barrel, heavy hammer and spring. Plug in buddy bottle with high flow valve. Check your sight and go. Easy 900 FPS and more if you want it.

Yeah I watch some videos. I cant even remember that I have ever watched any 22lr video that loud. Hope buckrail suppressor work on this thing or I will need a regulator
I could still remove the extra 14 grams extra weight that comes in the condor and use the smaller hole on my rimlock kit.. but is a slug shooter I will leave it for now like it came ..

Well it even arrived with the new hand guard factory tune as usual pretty hot n loud .. to shoot like 20gr .177 at 1000fps + but I don't really care will have the barrel treaded next week.

I ended up with something else, but remember that DonnyFL has an adapter. I would be wondering about concentricity relative to a well-done lathe threading, but didn't find anyone complaining. At $50, cheaper than any of the gunsmiths I know in Virginia would do it for.
