Umarex Ruger Blackhawk .177 break barrel

Is anyone else shooting one of these? If so, I have a few questions.

1. what pellets have you found to be most accurate?
2. have you rescoped it and if so with what?
3. have you tried to quiet it down and if so, what have you done, and what results?
4. what do you use it for, target, or pesting or both?
5. do you have other spring piston rifles, and how does the Ruger Blackhawk compare to them?

I HAD 1 a decade or so ago. Didn't like it, gave it away. I bought the original D34 of which the Ruger is a Chinese copy. Yes, it was more $$, but the Diana is light years better imho.

Well, I see that your Diana is German made. About 3 times the price of my Blackhawk.

Have a couple, one wood stock one synthetic both .177 cal. They are Chinese made and yes a copy of
the Diana 34 of which I have 3 copies. I picked them up from Flying Dragon and they were an absolute steal,
as I recall 60. each shipped. Great guns are easy to shoot ,accurate and handy.
Have a red dot on one and iron sights on the other. Do they measure up to the Diana 34s ,no they don't have the
fit or finish or great crisp Diana triggers or the level of accuracy. But for the money are great plinkers or pesters.

I had 1, it was junk. I gave it the benefit of the doubt, and tore it down for a tune. New seals, spring, guide and debur. Stil would not get better than coke can accuracy at 15 yards. Checked barrel, recrowned, and still junk. Threw it in the garbage.

I shoot targets at 67 feet, close to 22 yards. Hitting a 3-inch bullseye from a homemade bag rest, with the 4x scope that came with it. Averaging 3 out of 5 in that 3-inch bullseye, the misses I attribute to the pellets (Crossman domed 10.5 gr.) Thus, my question what pellets you are using? I know this springer is not top of the line, but I would not consider it junk. You should have passed it on to someone less fortunate not thrown into the trash, Imho. Thank you for your response.

As the old saying goes “once bitten, twice shy”. Hopefully this experience doesnt put too much of a damper on things. Airguns can sometimes be a real exercise in frustration. At least you don’t have too much money wrapped up in it.

Results vary from gun to gun and more so on cheap ones. It's a fact of life if you will.
My pair will do 3/4 inch groups at 20 yrds.
With pellets they like ,usually cheap Crosmans.

Not everyone is competing or even cares about that world. Most entry level buyers are looking for backyard plinkers and occasional pest shooting.
I have a fair pile of "higher end " European guns to include legit older 10 meter rifles. But trying to hold a Chinese import to them is like comparing a Ferrari to a Subaru.
Completely different ends of the spectrum.
There is plenty of room for budget guns in my collection at least.

As you quoted "once bitten twice shy" which I fully understand. Hence my username. It didn't put a damper on my day. Matter of fact it encouraged me to try a bit harder. I went out and shot 12 shots at my home-made target, before it started raining. I use cardboard cut from cereal boxes and stick a 3-inch circle on it to aim at. Well out of that 12, 10 were in that 3-inch circle. Pretty good for me! Shooting a junk rifle as some have said about my Blackhawk. Maybe someday I will be able to move up to a higher class of rifle.

I don't think I will ever be buying a Ferrari rifle. Perhaps a under lever, I think that is what it is called. Thank you for your reply.

I have one… purchased at auction. Purchased with intent to fix up for one of several grandnephews…. My answers to above:

1. All seems to be equally accurate… just I have more dome pellets than WCs. I have some 10gr JSB, but reserving them to shoot out of my RWS 54. So been shooting 7.4, 7.9, 8.44 mistly…Shot mostly Crossman 7.9s mainly that is what I have most on hand. The JSB 8.44 grouped best it seems. cAn post chrograph data later

2. Took off the original 4x fixedpower scope… installed a UTG 11mm to picatinny base. Vortex Crossfire 4-12XAO scope with pro rings… nice balance and and seems to enable me to shoot better… it had the range of adjustment needed to center up the shots. No dreded barrle droop issues.

3. Kept orighinal springs and seals. Removed front sight assembly and installed an adapter to attach a silencer. That really quite down the shots. Only downsize is the gun is long and realy needs care when moving it around.

4. Backyard plinking and eventually pest control. I think it will will kill pest. It is around 9-11 foot pound energy . Only smacking steel plinking targets and paper for now. Have other guns for vermins.

5. Several. HW35 (silencer), HW97 (silencer… use this last season for HFT), RWS 54, RWS52, FWB300S, AA TX200 (22cal). Chinese clone of the TX200,Clone of the FWB300S… accuracy of the Ruger is not asgood asthe German made guns… mainly due to the superb trigger of the German guns. The Ruger’strigger is usable… just gotta learn it… it have a heavy and long first stage… but got a definite wall and then a crisp but heavy seco d stage let off… just gotta shoot it to learn it… will be hard in a field environment to be precise… think that contributes to the inaccuracies experienced by many shooters of this gun

Thank you for your reply. I too have changed out the scope for a 3-9x40 that I can focus. my eyes are not what they were. I have been shooting 10.5gr Crossman domed but cannot get them to group well. I will have to get some better pellets to get better groups. Can you explain what barrel drop is? I agree it does have a bit of a loud report and have been thinking of trying too quiet it down. do you know at what dbs yours is at with the silencer? The trigger is adjustable perhaps I will try adjusting it some. Thanks again for your input.
