Lighter vs heavier pellets? 880 FPS?

Whats the general consensus on speed vs weight of a pellet?

My JSB seem to do well at 880fps

But my cheaper lighter Crossman premier hollow point dont seem to do as well at this speed. Meaning I lower my hammer spring to bring it back down to 880ish FPS

Do you typically go up or down on lighter pellets? The pellet is going to travel a fair bit faster if I dont adjust it. Just trying to dial them as best I can.

For best consistent accuracy your supposed to dial it in around 880ish give or take 20fps is that correct? Does it then matter what the weight of the pellet is?

Kraford and Lypt LTECH Probe system review

Hey all, been a long time coming but finally popped a mini-review out of the Kraford and Lypt LTECH Probe system.

You can check it out here.
K&L LTECH review

I definitely saw some efficiency/fps gains. Know there was a bunch of discussion on features in the product release post, so won't text wall that here.

I will share a screenshot of fps averages from the video below--I believe it's safe to say, there are some gains to be made! I did this testing against the FX probe. With a high flow or pin probe, I'm seeing results at about 35-50% vs the OEM probe--just haven't had the time to sit down to do a full battery of testing. So while the gains aren't as large vs a high flow/pin probe, I am still seeing them.

Other than changing barrel kits out and reg pressure, my M3 remained unchanged for testing (other than swapping buttstocks). I use a digital reg gauge, so the testing should be fairly level set from a consistency standpoint. My hammer wheel was set at a specific macro value for the 100bar and then 150bar tests for both 600mm and 700mm barrel kits.

Hope y'all enjoy if you were curious about this Impact accessory!

Tuning  Reseal FX Crown

I bought a brand new Crown about three years ago. I absolutely love it. I have two barrel kits, .25 and .30. Never had any problems until now. Apparently it has a slow leak somewhere. It will leak down to about 100 bar and then seems to stop. I never fill it over 250 bar. Question is, send it out to have it resealed? Or order the 25 seal kit and do it yourself. I’m almost scared to attempt it. And who would you recommend to do the work if I decide to go that route. Thanks in advance.

which pistol for hunter field target?

Hello,
I went to watch my first hunter field target match at OKC and had a great time. I met some great folks who didn't mind me bugging them with questions and following them around. I learned a lot about the sport. I don't have a gun for this type of shooting currently so the process has begun on researching what to get. I know PCP rifle is the safe way to go but i do like springers but pistol is really tugging at my heart strings. I would be the only one shooting with a pistol and I would shoot the course like it was setup and not limit my shots to 35yds. I know it much harder but I like harder. The reason is I shot handgun silhouette and have always favored handguns over long guns. Is the crosman 1701 working good for it?
I will be using athlon Agros scope 6-24 mil(had it setting around). I know it sucks to be the only one shooting a particular way(I was a trad shooter before it became cool-lol) but I like to challenge myself.

Thanks
Jon

FX Crown Continuum relatives

I have a Crown Continuum 700mm and 380mm in .25 - I also have a 600mm .177 barrel kit with probe, as well as a .380mm liner and probe in .22 . . . I am thinking there is a family of kissing cousins of other FX rifles that could accept any/all of these Crown barrel kits (.700, .600 and .380) Do I understand that correctly? If so, which models will work with these? For example, I would be interested in adding either a standard Wildcat III or standard Dreamline Bull Pup. Could I use any or all of these barrel kits in those two models?

Eating my words here... FX Panthera thoughts

Scroll to the end for a TLDR

I have been anti FX because even though it is genius , their marketing drives me up the wall, I just call it propaganda now lmao.

Now onto a little backstory

.... March 18th I went to NEAG to buy a bulldog Taurus from John, always wanted one but didn't want to spend the coin on a rifle with little to no knowledge documented about it here on the nation, but being able to handle it and having a retailer to fall back on changed my mind about not wanting to "pull the trigger". That same day I grabbed another Huben in .22 and an Airacuda Max .25 (love both and my original huben in .25) . At the same time John asked me to shoot at the North East Airgun Classic for him and I said hell yes and he proceeded to sign me up and get everything rolling , not much prep time here especially since the only rifle I am familiar with at this point that I owned was my Huben .25 and its only allowed on the bench (no semi allowed for PRS).

My plan was Huben .25 on the bench, Taurus for the squatchbomb, now what to do about PRS? After shooting the Taurus for the first time it was very anemic , shooting 840fps off the first shot vs the 945 advertised, long story short the rifle went back to Veradium to be inspected and sorted on March 20th, speaking with Brian on the phone I decided at that time to place an order for a custom Artemis M16A (CF Bottle swap, trigger work, valve and hammer work, and a custom slug barrel with muzzle break) with the agreement it would be done in two weeks so that I could practice with it.

Fast forward to April 5th the Taurus came back, I took it out and shot it , again, same thing as the first time... I called John at New England Airgun, told him that I did not want it and I want to exchange it for something as time was running out with only 15 days till the competition. Now I am somewhat panicking as my PRS build was still not here and wasn't sure when it would be and my squatchbomb rifle is being returned.
I exchanged it for a wildcat bt compact 30 caliber thinking well, squatchbomb I have friends who said I could borrow their rifles but I need to practice prs with something so a .30 cal pellet rifle in bullpup tickled me as I am a bullpup guy and sportsman are only shooting out to 99 yards to ring steel not group on paper so it fit what I wanted. I take it home April 7th and boom, air leaking right past the valve seat, bring it to John Tuesday the 10th (10 days from comp) and he inspects it and confirms the same thing .... FX said they were overnighting parts wednesday, nothing.... come friday, still nothing. Also my Artemis was going to go out to me Friday NDA Saturday delivery unfinished just so I had something to shoot BUT it did not make it out in time so I told Brian at Veradium just keep it till its finished I will have to figure something out . Feeling anxious but still thinking about everything and feeling the pressure of the time crunch lead me to call John and say hey, I need something, pull that 600mm .22 panthera and 4 boxes of ZANS I will be by Tomorrow afternoon to pick it up, I will keep the wildcat as well ( I really am excited about this rifle , it feels AMAZING... more on that another time).

I picked the Panthera up this past saturday, tuned it out my back door, slapped my PRS Scope on it and waited till sunday to shoot it.

First impressions, it is not built like an Impact, dreamline, maverick, or wildcat ... it has an EXTREMELY solid feel, the cocking lever is smooth and robust, very robust. The rifle was quite uncomfortable for me at first as I am not used to shooting with a verticle grip or rifle with the scope so close to the barrel but I started to get used to it.... its also definitely not a hunting rifle for walk and stalkers, while it palms very easy , it definitely has some forward length to it. Its very purpose oriented

Consistent? I am completely chuffed with its consistency.... the most consistent rifle I own. Very easy to tune and none of the tuning components feel fragile.

I stupidly grabbed the .217 33gr zans not .218 and I was still getting 1.25" full mag groups at 100 yards. I feel with more time, the right ammo, and a better shooting table I could easily cut this in half. Laid out golfballs at 25, 40, 55, 68 , 77, 85 and 90 yards and it just pegged them all over the place.

The rifle is also very smooth when being shot, its quiet with 0db moderator (which looks great with my tank wrap), little to no movement from the rifle at this powerlevel.

Being pretty anti fx , it took everything in my will to buy this but I am actually glad I did, I had intent on selling it after this competition but I don't think I will anymore.

TLDR; don't hate the panthera, still hate fx marketing, no time for prep, forced me to buy, can't wait to have fun this week at the NAC

Hope everyone had a good weekend. I did.

New Range Cart

PWfAFby.jpg

So I finished my range cart. It started last fall. I found a cart on Facebook Market place (Who says Facebook is all bad). for $20. I snag it and put it down in the basement. over the winter, I stripped it down and decided how I wanted to lay it out. Since I still like and shoot my powder burners, I had to design it to be dual purpose.

I bought a piece of green painted steel channel and hacked it off so it would fit between the wheels when I pull the two front pins and fold it down.

Took some PVC end caps and carriage bolts and attached them to align with the two ATV rifle racks that I bought ($20) and attached to the handles.

I can fit my air tank first and then my range bag on top of that.

Total spend (including the cart) $50.

Helium anyone using??

When I first started researching big bore airgun s years ago...Using Helium give much better performance.. Higher fps... I wonder if helium is as affected by temperature drops as normal high pressure air? Does helium stress damage the frame more? I understand helium is expensive and air is free lol But for.hunting season yes it might help😀 I'm asking I've never tried helium

Uragan 2 Owners

Anyone experienced this? New U2 .30 (700mm) most recent shot string;
226.3 fps
490.5
958.7
457.7
519.8
954
Just started after flawless performance/accuracy. Nothing out of ordinary occurred, sitting in gun rack, worked perfectly when placed there. Next time shooting alternated between squib rounds and full power till magazine empty. Tank started at 210 BAR, refilled after shooting down to 170, problems seems to be worsening. Maverick .177 Porker Down

**Before anyone gives me crap about the caliber: I put in the work to make sure this gun is a laser, and to make sure I know what shots I can take with the highest percentage of success. I do my best to put myself in as close as I can to the hogs(under 50 yards), so there is less room for me to screw up. I don't recommend everyone thinking they can go hog hunting with their .177! **

My modded Maverick got to feed once more, but this time, in .177! It was tuned to shoot Griffin 23gr slugs at 1070 fps in this case. She's putting out a hair under 60 fpe(it is capable of a bit more), and it crazy accurate. It has an Alfa Precision 1:14.6" twist barrel(370mm) that loves the 22-24 grain slugs. I've also done a lot of other work to the gun, so it can make these power levels in .177 without too much trouble. It takes a lot to push those little ice picks. This same gun with the same reg setting will do 170 fpe in .30 to give you guys an idea.

It was right at dark, and I was literally about to get up and leave. Thank goodness for the Trijicon's light gathering ability! I had just taken the gun off the rest, and I thought I heard something. I stopped and listened. Sure enough I heard pigs coming! It was a last minute quick hunt, so I was sitting on the ground against a tree about 30 yards from the feeder. I was trying to play to the wind, but the wind went completely dead. That's not the best when you're that close. Two small pigs came barreling in straight to the feeder, but this larger boar stopped short and put his nose in the air and perked his ears up. He knew something was up, so I took the shot at about 35 yards within 15 seconds of me putting my gun back on the rest. Any longer, and he would have bolted. He dropped in his tracks:devilish: I couldn't tell for the blood and dirt, but it may have actually done a pass through on his noggin. Those little heavy .177 slugs penetrate very well. Either way, that porker was dead before his head hit the ground!

I've killed hogs in .30, .22, and .177. I love the ability to change calibers on this gun, and the .177 is my favorite one. The bullet hitting that pig is way louder than the gun itself. It's short, quiet, and extremely accurate. I machined this barrel to fit the gun very tight, and it is tensioned. It is always spot on straight out of the case, and banging it around has zero affect on POI. .177 slug guns can be a very deadly combo on critters in general, and even larger ones in the right circumstances ;) I didn't get to weigh this one, but I'm guessing he was around 200lbs. The picture on the F-150 tailgate should give a legitimate size reference, without any distorted camera angles to make it look bigger than it is. He wasn't super old, but certainly fat. Thanks for reading!

Today’s “air rifle time”

The weather in Indiana dawned wet, cool, dark, and windy - staying that way all day.

With several domestic chores on my plate and Income taxes to file, these items helped the weather conditions be more tolerable.

I finally got about an hour to spend on my airgun hobby so I pulled out the .177 pcps and less powerful (20 to 35 fpe) .22 pcps and put them through the paces on the 15 RX target indoor range. Though it is only 18 yards, it is quite difficult to shoot the course cleanly as out of the 15 targets 3 are only 10mm, and 4 are only 15 mm.

The rifles shot included a .177 BSA R10 SE, a .177 Weihrauch HW100S, a .177 Air Arms S510, a .22 Weihrauch HW100T, a .22 Day State Wolverine B HiLite, a .22 Air Arms S410, a .22 Cricket II long.

The Cricket made it perfectly through the course (twice) without a single miss.

The AAS410, my oldest rifle, is always dead on, super smooth to operate, mouse fart quiet with the Donny FL moderator on it. The magazine is so simple to load. Tuned by Motorhead’s Scott Schneider a few years ago, Scott installed a HUMA regulator. Shooting the 15.89 Hades, it centered every one of the 15 targets with ease. This rifle has accounted for an untold quantity of squirrels, raccoons, groundhogs, crows, chipmunks, etc. With all of my “high end” air rifles, it doesn’t get shot much anymore, but if I need a “go to” gun, I always know I can count on it.

All of the rifles made it through with only a miss or two. A great way to spend time on a crummy weather day.

Slick bench rest to eliminate using artillery hold.

Saw a post somewhere, maybe here, of wrapping a shooting stick with paracord so you could just lay a springer on top and eliminate not having to put the hand under the stock. Was wondering if I used something like a teflon sheet on top of a sand bag, could I do the same. You would still have to grip the trigger stock lightly and put it against your cheek lightly but would be easier to hold steady on a target. Has anyone tried this?
