Skout  So much happier now .... SKOUT Epoch is now .22 caliber !!!!

A big shout out to the crew at SKOUT !!! As one of the early purchasers of an epoch back in feburary of this year had paid nearly MSRP ( 3K ) for the only caliber at the time they could be had .. as a .30 cal. While it has been Fun and proven itself as a new to market platform, the .30 is for my use extreme overkill with honestly little need for such power :cautious:
We watched and waited for the smaller calibers to get sorted out and make it as an offering, while at the same time an @ $600 roll back on MSRP ... ouch !!!

So last week i reached back out to SKOUT and asked a simple Q .... Are you helping those out who purchased early Epochs in terms of perhaps some swag or product to offset the MSRP roll back ? ** now note that SKOUT has been supplying upgrade parts in retrofit at N/C all along and been just fantastic in taking care of any issues that have arisen .. CUDO's !!

Now the Q gets asked back, What are you needing / wanting ? Well, been waiting on .22 caliber all season & would love to get a conversion kit to take my .30 to .22 cal
WE CAN DO THAT !!! And sent me a 25" ( Oem length ) full conversion kit ( .22 Liner, Muzzle thimble, Transfer thimble, Silencer core, Probe, 30 shot magazine ) as well the new upgraded barrel clamp collar assembly !! All at No Charge :D

So a quick recap ... during early spring went about tweaking on the rifles internal set up ( Small valve calibration changes, transfer path mods and made up a smaller throat poppet seat ) These changes were played with back & forth with IMO some really worth while efficiency improvements as well getting a LOT quieter.
Now these changes I made did take away a tad bit of power ( At the normal HP reg setting ) requiring @ 150/200 psi greater for equal power output. As a .30 it still was a beast !! running no where near maxed out.

So today we slipped in the .22 cal components making no setting adjustments ... 1500 on HP & @ 125 on LP
Loaded up some 25.4 Monsters .... 870/875 Leaned on the HP 100 psi to 1600 psi & we get 900 fps !! Shot cycle a SNAP and just a mild Puff noise a muzzle ... SA-WEET !!!

Going to play with it some more on Sunday after the Clubs last FT match of the 2023 season. Then put it away for a few months as i heal up from shoulder surgery happening 1st of the week.

I GOT A .22 cal EPOCH NOW ... I'm so stoked !!!!

FX  New Dynamic Accuracy

I recently purchased a Dynamic 700mm in .22 from a reputable reseller. They checked it and put a tune on it for the slugs I would be using (H&N 34gr. That is what their sponsored shooters are shooting so they set it up for that). Out of the box it wasn't bad (3/4" at 50 yds) but I wanted it a little better so I played with some changes. Pretty minor from the out of box tune. Just wasn't great at 100 yds (around 2"). As I continued to use it with basically the out of box tune the accuracy continued to get worse the more I shot it. I checked everything like the scope, loose bolts, other things the dealer said to check, etc. All good. Now the accuracy at 50 yds is about 5". (Around 500 rounds through it) Yikes! Pressure holds well from shot to shot. I have a Labradar and it was running about 5 for ES. I cleaned it as well to see, nope. I have been in contact with the dealer and they have been good but now I am at a point of needing to send it back to them. Before I did, I thought I would see what you guys think.
Thanks...

Big game with limited power, .177 or .22?

Hi lads, I live in a country with very stupid gun laws, fortuntelly (for the moment) they don't pay much attention to airguns, but that may change in a near future.

I have some airguns for the hobby, but none of them specially powerfull cause I don't want to surpass the country legal limit, but you can have a full power air gun as long as it is limited. I have the chance to aquire a 30 FPE gun in .177, or a 40+ FPE in .22, of course both are limited to legal specs, but it will be really easy to put them on full power, I have no intention to do so, BUT... I'm also a bit prepper, not zombie apocalipse level... but more like medium to long term shortages and gradual turdtholation of my already struggle to grasp to ''1rst world'' category country.

In an extreme situation that may never happen, I would consider to hunt for food, mainly small game, there is plenty around here, but I also prefer to have the option to shoot a hog, there is plenty of them also, they truly are an infestation and a problem that would solve if gun laws and hunting permits where more reasonable to get. Yes, I see the infamous .177 sub 20 fpe hog kill and I know it can be done, and I also know that those power levels are far beyond the recomended to take efectivelly anything big, but we are talking on SHTF situation, you, your airgun, a hog on sight... .177 30 fpe or .22 40+fpe?

N/A  Math formula to know how much to compensate.

I own a scope with a lot of references.

I mounted this scope to the FX Panthera Compact.

First I learned how much to compensate at 88 yards and later on how much at 190 yards.

Then I decided to try a formula to get to know how much to compensate knowing the distance after a measure with the range finder.

What I learned is that dis-acceleration increases need of compensation: ratio at 77 yards of 0.1 vs ratio at 190 yards of 0.135.

Then I decided to create four blocks of formulas for four ranges 50 to 80, 90 to 110, 120 to 140 and 150 to 190.

After a measure with the range finder I insert the distance in the closer applicable formula and get how many compensation in that scope is needed.

The result is much more close than my previous instinctive/memory one I use to apply for compensation.

Well many of you would tell me that there's a software that you can feed and that gives you a number. Yes, I know.

The difference with this new way I am applying since yesterday is that is a tailor made for specific scope already mounted on an specific rifle. All truth an empirical.

I am anxious to go hunting and applying the formula and see results.

N/A  Other Kinds Of Rifles

I currently have 2 HW 30's, an HW35 and a HW97. I am very happy with them all but am shopping for another rifle and would like to try something different. I only shoot targets and plink out to 25 yards and do not hunt, pest or compete. So, I have no need for power, just accuracy and the enjoyment of a well designed and built rifle. I have no desire for a pcp. I have 2 questions:

1. Are CO2, pump up, and pneumatic capable of the same accuracy as my HW's?

2. What are other brand names that are the equal of the HW rifles in terms of quality?

Tuning  Started winterizing my barrels and liners

20231019_133225.jpg

Whenever I swap or stop using any of my barrels/liners I always clean them thoroughly first before storing.
I have this my selection (based on different twist rates) collected over several years, each barrel and liner has its own function depend what game I wanna play next.
Today was one of those grey days, what else to do...let me do a quick maintenance on my inventory.
Cleaned the bore with Ballistol (in the garage of course), dry them with couple of clean patches, and re-lubed with soaked PTFE oil.
But I noticed for first time something new to me, a light surface rust even if the material is Stainless. No problem, a light touch with steel wool did the magic, but I would like to put some coating now, these will be sitting at least the next half a year until next year season.
What you friends use? that is indoors (odourless) friendly ;)

70 yard headshot…but

I’m so surprised that I didn’t recover the chipmunk.
I was shooting a steel gopher target at 70 yards when a chipmunk stood up on the rock by the target.
I had the RedWolf .177 stacking slugs on the target and it was an easy shot from the rest and tail bag.
You can see the rock at the top of the photo.
There was the usual loud pop, but when I got there I couldn’t find the chipmunk, just a lot of blood and even brain matter on the rocks.
Must have been grabbed by a predator or something, no way it got away don’t you think?
My cat was totally bummed out when I arrived back to the yard with no chipmunk lol!

Fx barrel made of all carbon fiber

I have a quick question on fx barrels. I use a carbon fiber barrel sleeve on my Maverick and this actually goes to the impacts also. I was curious has anyone ever used a carbon fiber tube instead of all the original barrel kit?

Instead of the, which I’m guessing the steel threaded tube, switching it out for a carbon fiber that will capture the liner and thread the ends to mate with the transfer port and the jam/lock nut. Has anyone thought of this for stiffening the barrel and reduce vibrations?

N/A  Chinese lead JTS

When I was in AGS last week the owner gave me a couple tins of Chinese rounds to try. Said they were new. I don’t know if new just in Canada or globally. The tins are decent with foam adhered to the lid to prevent damage. He said they were cheaper.
IMG_6995.jpeg
They had a loose fit compared to the JSB 13.—. Clean looking as well
IMG_6998.jpeg
JSB on left. I found them to be accurate in my 54. This is 5-6 shots 45 yds.

Have to say I‘m impressed. Caught totally of guard. Crow

HW/Weihrauch  Curse of the HW50

I checking out my 54, ZR mount out this morning. I also grabbed a HW50 .20, one of a few I got at AOA lately.
Can’t believe I missed this, you could see it if you were standing on I-75. I just put it on the block, to get ready to shoot, just didn’t look right.

Mycapt65 you’re on the money. Looks like I have a bending job to do. Crow
