Hawke RedDot Sights, Direct to 11-13mm Rail Mounting

I'm looking for users of the Hawke direct-to-dovetail mount red dot sights. I like the idea of no adapters required to install on 11-13 mm dovetails, specifically on the Diana Airbug/Chaser and also "clones" like the Artemis CP2. I realize this mounting regime would limit these models to use on airguns and perhaps .22 rimfires that use this size dovetail, but that's OK with me. I had a query on these sights on the Artemis CP2 thread, but received limited responses. So, anyone out there actually using these models? And what is your opinion in terms of the overall quality (construction and controls/adjustments), and in particular the quality of the dot itself (roundness/crispness of the 3-minute dot).

FX  FX crown mk1 vs mk2

I believe I am aware of most differences. I am having trouble finding power specs of the original version? I see in .30 (what I’m mainly interested in) that the mk2 is rated up to 91 ft/lbs when i look up the vp model with 600 mm barrel. I have no idea if this is an across the board maximum rating with a 700mm barrel or specific to the 600? I guess what I’m asking is in .30 cal with 600mm barrel what would the approximate max energy to be expected out of the mk1 ? What about mk2? Trying to figure out if the mk1 would be a worthy gun to buy.

Taipan  Worth the trouble

Picked up this used Taipan Veteran Long .22 for a good price a week back.
20240418_164329.jpg

Had some issues with accuracy. First I noticed there was clipping, turns out the shroud was bent. Cut the shroud off and modified it to work as an LDC, no more clipping.
20240420_211944.jpg

Thought cool problem solved. Nope still terrible accuracy and looks like spiraling. Pulled barrel and pushed a pellet through and wow terrible burrs at the crown.
20240421_203612.jpg

Got convinced to try out recrowning it myself instead of sending it out. Turns out it was well worth the effort and trying it!

Before "accuracy"

After accuracy
20240422_172226.jpg

So today I finalized everything with my tune. Averaging around 37fpe with 18gr and 22gr. The guns not picky now. Tried slugs but not worth trying further.
20240423_212338.jpg

4 different pellets and 4 consecutive sub MOA groups at 50yds. Gotta say don't think I've had a gun be not pellet picky as this besides my Evol Mini. Anyways, even after the stress and frustration of what looked to be a new gun with no marks and a Taipan with these troubles, in the end it was worth it. And actually really satisfying to be able to say I made it this way from being a turd to start off with lol now to get back to just shooting and enjoying airguns instead of the tuning and tinkering.

Introduce myself

Hi my name is Bill. I am a fellow airgunner and competitive shooter. I am also NRL22 match director for our local club matches (Bedford County NRL22 Series) I enjoy airguns and have been competing with them for 2 years. Before that I shot a lot of rimfire. I started out in air rifle as a way to get my nephew involved in shooting. He didn't like the loud noise of most guns but was very mechanically inclined and inquisitive about how the guns worked so I hoped it would be a way to get him involved. Unfortunately the Good Lord had other plans for him and took him home early. But I kept into it as a way to honor him. I started out with a Gauntlet 2. Next was an Air Venturi Avenger. Then I purchased a couple of FX Panthera's that are more suitable for how we shoot. And finally I purchased a Skout Epoch that I'm trying to make more compatible for NRL22 competition. I enjoy tinkering and working with new shooters. Last year we had our first air rifle only nrl22 style match. We had a good turn out and got to introduce our style of competing to everyone. I am hoping to have another one again this year if my work schedule permits. Thanks for having a site where we can all come together. I look forward to meeting you in my travels.

N/A  No more interest in PCPs

Well what I'm trying to say......

Lets go back a minute, for almost 2 decades into PCPs I sure had my favorites but I still loved to read and follow other guns, loved to follow new guns coming out and so and so now,

Since I got my Hubens I really don't spend hardly any time reading about other guns, I might chime in once in a while if I see something that looks very nice but in reality I lost all interest in any other gun.

Scratch and dent?

Are there any companies that regularly sell scratch and dent style air guns? Stuff with scrapes on stocks etc., maybe dinged or damage superficially in shipping. I don't mind an ugly gun for hunting, especially on worse weather days. If there were a discount on this type of merch but still mechanically sound and quality performance I would interested.

Anyone else miss FX USA

Remember the good ol days? A direct phone number and a relatively short wait and you were talking to a tech about your issue. They were always and I mean always patient and helpful. I remember being told to not worry about bugging them. They liked shooters who tinkered and fixed their on guns and would always help.
Try that now. I am wondering if the “best service in the industry” defense we FX shooters use will remain valid.
I am not definitely done buying FX or dealing with UA, but my consideration of other guns is getting more serious. Maybe not such a bad thing

  • Question
N/A  Huma Regs -- can they handle > 250 bar?

I've got a gun that can handle a 300 bar fill. I don't have a reg tester for the reg that it ships with -- I'm tuning it but . . . guessing with minor incremental changes -- you know - kind of a pia not to mention going through air bleeding it off between changes. I could slap a huma in it that at least has a little piece of paper on it that gives you a reasonable "guess" at what the reg is set to. <-- yeah internal reg in the tube, not externally adjustable.

The subject is the question - can the huma's handle / deal with greater than 250 bar? ( I also own other 300 bar capable guns ... and I rarely fill them to 300 - usually 280-290'ish . . . )

I sent huma an email a couple of days ago but no reply - don't know if language (translation) is an issue or if they just haven't checked their messages

Curious -- thanks guys

Lubber Hunting with Airsoft?

I live in Florida and each spring/summer there is a lubber invasion. These are large grasshoppers that eat our garden and when full grown they are poisonous. And poison doesn't kill them when full grown. Nothing eats them except one species of birds that kill them, hang them up to dry in the sun which must extract the poison and then eat the Lubber. I have an airgun range in my yard but shooting lubbers with a pellet isn't practical or safe. I was wondering if an airsoft CO2 pistol/revolver shooting a plastic 20gr bb with a 300-350 fps muzzle velocity from 2-6 feet would terminally "whack" these critters. They are large and tough. I have to beat them with a brick or stomp on them if they are on something hard. Most of the time they take a severe beating before giving it up. Obviously a pellet would do the job but holes in the fence, outdoor furniture, clay plant pots or my neighbor's dogs and I will look like one of the deceased lubbers! Wondering if anyone had experience with using an airsoft gun for something like this.

FX  FX Dreamline Tactical vs Crown MKII

Comparing the FX DREAMLINE -TACTICAL vs Crown MKII

I want an easy-to-shoot gun with minimal adjustments.
Looking for the possibility of tuning down the power when shooting in sensitive areas, and going full speed the rest of the time.

I have long arms, so the configuring possibilities with the FX Dreamline tactical is better for me.

But the Crown MKII can also be extended and work for me.

What gun would you choose and why?

A tail of woe and warning

My Vevor branded Tuxing CX-1 let go ( low pressure side of piston). Vevor will not sell parts or support this compressor outside of warrantee. All my not be lost as I found this https://www.amazon.com/TUXING-Compressor-Spare-Connecting-Pistons/dp/B0912MV9B4 (First picture). There is a difference the new one has a black tip on the rod and the low side has two o-rings. Makes me question why I can't add two o-rings and call it a day> Here are pictures of the new piston and old> Old one (Compressor) was new 11/22.

PCP Rifle  NLA RAW BM500 .22

IMG_0095.jpegIMG_0094.jpegIMG_0093.jpegIMG_0092.jpegIMG_0091.jpegOwned for 6 or 7 years never got to a match back yard range only . sent to Martin for a checkup came back as new . Holds air for ever. Single shot Covid shut matches down and so I moved on to other disciplines. 7x500 18.13 jumbo heavy, 6x200 23.39 jumbo monster both sealed. Sizing die and pellets included. Optics not included.
1350.00 price adjusted for shipping.

Traditional Rifle  SOLD SOLD - HW55M - SOLD

HW55M Completely restored. SOLD New seals (new piston seal is leather but I the conversion to synthetic which will be included). Re-blued by Precision Bluing (Mark Smith) to factory new condition. You may notice that the stampings on the breech block are very light - that's the way it came originally from Weihrauch. Match grade Record trigger with factory polished sears, etc. Second stage is very light indeed! New spring from Jim Maccari. I will include the original spring which looks to be in good condition. Bore is bright and gun shoots as it should but needs to be broken in as I have only fired it a dozen times. I personally re-finished the stock with at least 2 dozen coats (I lost track - took several months to complete) of hand rubbed Napiers London Oil. The photos speak for themselves. Beautiful. I'm looking for a good home for it to reside but reluctant to part with it. Recent health issues have forced me to thin out my collection - all of which are very fine. I prefer PayPal F&F or a personal check, certified check, or money order. I will pack this airgun for shipping to CONUS only with the utmost care. Buyer and I will split the shipping charges and I reserve the right to sell to whom ever I choose. Feel free to PM me.

Crosman  Cabelas outfitter .22

I bought this rifle probably 15-20 years ago. Shot it quite a bit, and as I acquired more air guns it began to sit. I would take it out now and then but the weight with the large scope was a turn off.
1000001596.jpg
this is it in the original configuration. After some time owning it, I swapped in a grt-III trigger which makes a heck of difference, but not enough to get it regular shooting time.
20240323_154554.jpg
I eventually swapped it to a red dot, which I much prefer weight wise. Since then, I have upgraded from the $30 bsa to a nice Hawke red dot thanks to member here that had just what I needed in the classifieds. Still looking to reduce weight I decided to finish a stock swap I started 10 years ago. I had purchased a stock, stripped the finish. And begun giving it a new look. Unfortunately the factory stamped in checkering had uneven depth, leaving 1 panel almost nonexistent. That kind of detail which can not only be seen, but also felt while holding the rifle drove me nuts....and so the stock sat waiting for me to get back to it. I have now gone over all 4 panels, and traded checkering for stippling. 3 coats of stain, 5 thin coats of poly, and a bunch of cursing later I am calling it done. There are still a couple things I may go back in and work on in another 10 years, but not today. For the first time in a while I see this getting some regular time on target, and a walk in the woods this year. This is the boring side of the rifle....
20240423_085446.jpg
definitely feels better in hand and offhand for me now. Not pellet picky getting hunter grade accuracy a half dozen pellets in 22 of various weights and shapes.
The non-boring side of the rifle shows off some of my art work. Hand painted in acrylic in 2014 while I was still making my living as an artist. Initials and year hidden under the recoil pad.
