Hatsan  Hatsen Flash QE .22 accuracy issues

New here and new to PCP but not new to guns at all. Having an accuracy problem with a PCP.

I bought my son a Hatsen Flash QE in .22 and can't seem to make it shoot well. I purchased a number of different brands of pellets initially. Sighted it in with the included scope (Cabela's purchase) and I thought it was doing well. I could consistently hit a popcan at 40+ yards.

He shot it a bunch over the next 6 months but I noticed he stopped shooting it and asked why. He wasn't hitting anything. I believe the scope may have got bumped and so I took the opportunity to buy a nicer scope, Athlon 3-9x40 .22 rimfire scope, and put it on. I pumped the gun up to 200 bar and got it sited in, at 15 yards I was grouping around a 1/2 inch so I went out to 40 yards. Couldn't keep it on an 8.5x11 even. After running the air down without finding anything I pumped it back up to 200 bar, moved the target back to 15 yards and put maybe 5 rounds through 1/2" again.

I thought maybe I was just losing it at 40 yards for some reason so I put the target back out there and same thing. A dozen shots, several of them completely missing the paper. I moved it back to 15 yards and it was off the same amount.

I cannot remember the pellet weights, but I was shooting Crosman mid weight for all of that. I found 10 pellets that were lighter and shot them, with <200 bar and it did not help.

I am waiting for a JSB Diable Exact 18.13 gr and some Haendler & Natermann 21.14 gr pellets to ship so I can try those out.

The only thing I have found that is stable and I'm not 100% convinced on this yet, is it seems the first half dozen shots off of a full 200 bar charge seem to be accurate. Then it goes crazy. But I wouldn't die on that hill, not enough data collected.

The problem presenting has followed through 2 scopes with different mounting completely, and several pellet weights and brands. I cleaned the barrel but it was almost spotless before so no change there.

Any suggestions would be great. I really enjoy the PCP tech, got an electric pump that my son can run (no more heart attacks when I get off work hand pumping that sucker). And I really like that it's more safe than a powder burner for shooting around the yard. We only have one neighbor in PCP range but quite a few in .17 HMR range.

PCP Rifle  NLA Theoben Rapid MK2 .25cal *One time reduction now $950*

2008 production model in very good condition. It has the scalloped loading port to facilitate single shot loading, and a quick fill male foster fitting. The stock is the very desirable and hard to find Sentinel thumbhole model. Two magazines are included and also the scope rings. I am not sure if the rings are Theoben original but they do screw into the block. One ring is offset and I have heard of a Theoben offset ring. It also has an adjustable recoil pad. It does not have a regulator. There is a small hard to see blemish on the moderator. It is shooting about 40 ft/lbs with JSB 25 grain pellets and is very accurate! $1100 plus shipping lower 48 NOW.... $950

Field Target is an arms race.

Yep I said it, and not for the first time.

Some sure seem to get heated up about that statement. Others are pragmatic enough to accept reality.

When guys are running "bb guns" that cost north of $8-10k, there's not much of an argument against it being an arms race.

When I say "arms race" I'm talking about the perpetual creep that results in ever bigger side wheels, more expensive scopes and guns, more complicated bipods, and generally more gadgetry for the classes where that's allowed, etc.

The arms race is a result of a combination of factors. First of those is that in any competition that is similarly equipment-dependent, you'll see the same thing. Competitors will spend big to acquire what they feel is the most competitive equipment. Another is the demographic....field target competitors are primarily a collection of well-to-do geezers, and many of those are retired, with the time and money to be silly about how they spend that time and money. Another is psychology...if I just buy THAT gun or THAT scope then I'll be at the top in future matches. In that sense, the arms race is as much a personal battle as it is a side-quest competition with the rest of the field. Furthermore, and another part of the psychology, is that it's simply fun to try out new guns and scopes. And who's going to buy a lower quality gun or scope than what they already have? So of course that feeds into the process of continually spending more and more and the average price of a rig in any given ft competition creeping up and up and up over the years. In that sense, some of the arms race is the over-used adage of, "you get what you pay for."

All of that is fine and dandy, and it's simply the reality of the field target game.

The negative aspect of the arms race is those rare times when a newcomer is at their first match and we have to tell them the price of the borrowed rig they're fondling. It's hard for them to envision themselves being part of the collection of field target competitors since they haven't mentally worked their way up to the great financial heights incrementally like most of us have. I say that from personal experience when I was new, and from the exact same facial expression I see when I introduce someone to field target.

As for the inevitable, "it's the indian, not the arrow" straw man logic rebuttals that are sure to come.....There is very certainly a price threshold that must be crossed to get into "competitive" territory. Yeah yeah, "so and so won with an entry level _______________ back in 20XX." Those cases are rare, and speak much to the skill of that individual competitor. In the main example I see used, that guy is now shooting a $3-4K scope/gun combo, NOT the entry level rig that he did well with that year. For most of us mere mortals, quality equipment ($$$) must be invested in if a guy has any intentions of being competitive, then of course comes practice to complete the rest of the winning equation. Hence my earlier statement about how equipment-dependent field target is.

And there you have the arms race.

(And with that, let the online battle commence).

value of gas powered Bauer Oceanus

I am looking to purchase a 250 hours Bauer Oceanus. Gas powered (Honda GX160 - I believe)
First pictures I saw it looked clean. Supposedly recent service on the engine and a new filter.
It is an older model with the grey safety cover - I am trying to get more information - what else is important to know ?

Is $3500 reasonable or overpriced?

thanks for your input.

New World Record in format 3-Shot at 927 yards

We would like to present our new Airgun World Record, which differs from our previous records mainly in the format, where the goal is not to hit the target at the longest distance, but according to the 3-Shot Record format, where it is necessary to hit the target with 3 shots in a row.
This type some consider a much more significant demonstration of the accuracy of the shooting system, since this format limits the possibility of using "brute force" simply by a large number of shots before a single hit occurs.
A similar format is also used at ELR competitions, for example King 2 miles, with the only difference being that the condition is a cold bore shot, which cannot be applied in the video format, since the authenticity of such shooting cannot be guaranteed.

To achieve this result, a new generation of upcoming products such as the new Altaros M24 airgun series and new slugs were used. Both products will soon be available on our website.

Used airgun: Altaros M24 - secret project X
Used Slugs: Altaros CNC 100gr cal. 6mm
Used riflescope: Arken Optics sh4j 6-24x50 ffp mrad

Other equipment:
Altaros MOA Booster -periscope deviceSilencer:
Altaros Silencer with muzzle brake 1/2 UNF
Bipod - TACTICAL TK3 LOCK system (WEAVER) from Tactical EVO

Scope and mount for Taipan Vet 2 Standard

Need suggestions on scope and mounts/rings for Taipan Vet 2 standard (700mm barrel).

I am okay with a SFP or FFP scope. Max magnification 20x or 24x.

Mounts: two piece will do fine but not sure if I should get low profile or medium. I want to keep the scope as close to the barrel as possible. For those who have a Vet 2, how is the cheek piece in relation to the scope if you use low or medium mounts?

My current set-up on FX Wildcat MK3 is:

Scope:

Athlon Optics Argos HMR 4-20x50mm Mildot

Mounts:

FX No Limit Scope Rings

This setup has worked fine for me but the scope does sit high compared to the barrel. So if you can help me figure out a scope and mounts combination (low profile mounts if they work) that I can work in my budget, I would appreciate it.

Scope Budget: $300. Mounts: $40-$60.

Thanks!

Pyramid Air 10 for $10, and the PCP 24 Hr Leak service?

Hi all,

I was always a springer guy, but I was just about to pick up an Airforce Talon PCP and an Air Venturi RovAir 4500 compressor from Pyramid air and I noticed that the 10 for 10 service and the PCP 24 Hour Leak test were no longer offered as services. Have they been cancelled? I sent a message to PA but have not heard back.

I like PA, but I also saw that Airforce sells direct to customers, so I could get it strait from them. Do you think there would be any advantage getting it strait from the manufacturer? I will still get the Compressor from PA.

I was just curious on your thoughts. Maybe also any thoughts on the Talon SS as a first PCP? I like the single shot ability, I would probably single load even if there were a magazine available.

Thanks,
Jim

New Beginnings … An Intro of Sorts …

Hi. I wanted to post a brief introduction. I didn’t see a dedicated “new member intro” section and thought that the general discussion area would do nicely, thank you.

I’m a Texas native, living in exile in Georgia. It isn’t that bad, but sounds sort dramatic (and it is a tribute of sorts to my dad). I live in South West GA, maybe 90 mins from ATL.

I think the airgun bug bit me around 2008’ish (maybe a couple of years earlier, but I can find some posts and emails to safely say 2008). I was a longtime member of the old Straight Shooters forum (I see they are no longer around), probably another site or two, and I wrote a fair bit on my own website as well. If you remember other boards and sites - jcalvert (that is probably me) or Calvertgames (for sure that is me).

I have been in and out of the hobby for a while. Life has a way of throwing curve balls, but I digress. I would hazard a guess that I more or less stopped posting to various boards and whatnot around 2018; although my love for the hobby and has never really died. And here I am again …

My inventory, all purchased from (the old) Straight Shooters:

-Beeman R1 .20 Carbine
-Beeman R1 .22
-Beeman R7 .177
-Benjamin Marauder .22

The R1 .22 was my first purchase, followed by the R7 and then the Carbine, which is probably my favorite airgun. I plunged into the PCP world with the Marauder, which is a brilliant entry into PCPs.

All this is to say that I was looking to rekindle the fire and find a likeminded community. I plink, I hunt (backyard, vermin style) and just enjoy shooting my airguns for the fun of it.

N/A  Help me out with the Math! If i have a 1000cc 300bar bottle filled- how many times can i fill my 700cc gun bottle at 250bar?

Hi Guys

another dumb question from a newbie- my fx dreamline will get a 700cc carbon bottle which i fill 250bar, no more. If i get lets say a 1000cc carbon tank to feed my smaller 700cc bottle off of it- how many times can i fill until the 1000cc tank has to little pressure to fill the 700cc bottle again...

i understand it like this- i have the reg set at 150bar and i fill the 700cc bottle only 250bar so i am only using 100bar and i bounce off the reg and need to refill the gun again..

but how does that correlate to my 1000cc tank which is filled at 300bar?

am i taking every time 100bar from the 1000cc tank? but i am taking cc from the tank, not bars and the tank is filled with 300bar and not with 250bar...

i don't get it..

the 700cc bottle has always still 150bar when i refill it so those 150bars inside are resisting the compressed air coming from the 1000cc tank- so where is the limit, when will the 1000cc tank be unable to fill up the 700cc bottle with another 100bars... this is too much for me..

how to calculate that air usage?

Umarex  Modded Notos lost fps by double

Notos is 2 months old. Worked great and shot many small game and plinking. But decided to mod it with bottle conversion with canada regulator and big bottle, 500 mm barrel and liner kit and some extras. I was getting 740fps with 3k psi charge. Now after all mods I'm getting 450 fps with 3.5k psi charge. What happened??

Benjamin  Just finished up this UNIQUE Pistol for FT use ... G2 M-rod based

Whacky to say the least
This made from a previously cut down OEM G2 air tube, re-threaded with an In-line bottle adapter fitted which then has a Ninja 13ci Bottle & regulator attached.
Inside the air tube a vintage small seat & outlet WAR valve with a custom "Cobra" air spring & PEEK poppet. Out back a MDS lightweight hammer and internal SSG hammer free flight devise.
Up top the receiver has a thin poly spacer to raise height slightly so a retrofit 15mm .177 cal barrel was made to fit receiver, then diameter reduced where it passes over bottle.
Cocking bolt a modified piece utilizing a custom seating probe tip. Stock is a cut up Black poly shaped and re-profiled to fit bottle clearance as well be "Pistol" ambidextrous.
Fitted with a HAWKE AO parallax mil-dot optic using Sports Match rings.
* All said and done it is fully AAFTA Pistol class legal as configured.

OAL just shy of 24"
Barrel just shy of 15"
Belly forward of trigger guard just shy of 3"
Sub 12 FPE .. tho as set up will do @ 15 fpe with free flight on hammer reduced ;)

Shot cycle a very crisp "Snap" not being really that loud being non LDC fitted.
Accuracy is well within most FT Pistoleros skill set for PFT competition I'm figuring

Anywho, just a share as I do a bit more fit & finish work in coming weeks and some clear weather to fine tune it in.
* Ultimately this Whacky little pistol is going to get sold at some point, as that was the intent having built it from stashed away extra parts & pieces from years of building other Marauder customs.

:D Scott
