A piece of American Airgun history

Stumbled upon this Crosman service manual on eBay. It teaches you how to service 30+ Crosman models. These were the Crosman guns that gave Crosman its awesome reputation for building quality airguns. Back when “made in America” meant MADE in America (not just assembled!). An ode to the good ol’ days.

HW/Weihrauch  Your grandpa's HW 30

I recently acquired a pre-Beeman iteration of the classic HW 30, and thought a comparison to Beeman's equally classic evolution of the design - the "Gary Goudy stock" R7 - might be of interest. The current HW 30 has of course evolved beyond either of these in some details. I believe the HW 30 was introduced in the early 1960's; note that as old as my R7 is, this HW 30 was already old enuff to drink before it was born, lol...!
IMG_5927.jpeg

The R7 was Beeman's effort to bump a junior-sized European rifle up into his "American adult airgun" market. Its stock is longer and heavier; adding a buttplate, grip checkering, Monte Carlo comb line, and the famous extension of wood over the breech block. The HW 30's wood is a slender version of the classic German lines - plain butt, rounded grip, and finger-groove fore end.
IMG_5928.jpeg

Early R7's used a straight HW 30 action, but in order to balance the chunkier stock, they eventually moved to a heavier 15mm diameter barrel. The HW 30S's is 14mm, giving fine balance in a lighter and quicker handling package. Note both guns have the same fixed-post front sight, though the older one lacks a hood.
IMG_5929.jpeg

Beeman never liked the original stamped rear receiver cap, so all but the earliest R7's dispensed with it and added the safety. The HW 30 has 13mm scope groove spacing, but the R7 the newer 11mm version. Both enjoy the famous Rekord trigger.
IMG_5931.jpeg

These days we see frequent discussions of barrel lockup issues with the HW 30. Note the R7 uses the same "ball bearing under a bar" breech latch seen on current guns, but the original design had a stout old-school wedge detent. These parts look to be the same ones used on the larger HW 50 in those days and give no problems.
IMG_5934.jpeg

As much as I like the R7 and other newer HW 30 variants, the old fellow is a real delight - shoots hard, easy to carry, quick to the shoulder. I have an ARH kit on the way for it, and plan to add an aperture sight, so it should get plenty of use in the future.

Leaning

As I sit hear I realized, I’ve changed so much. At first when getting in pcp’s. It was all about the speed and power. Now into the hobby four or five years. I find myself leaning more toward accuracy, quality & efficiency. Guess I’m growing in the hobby. I’ve gotten so much joy from this. Now 3 of my family and 1 friend have gotten pcp. After shooting with me. It’s a great world to get into, although turning out to be very expensive!LOL this form has taught me a lot. So thanks to all with good information. And the patients everyone has had with me with all the dumb questions. So god bless everyone and happy shooting. I bought a fx pocket chronograph. From member on here. It’s supposed to be here today. I’m so excited. I’ve never used one. Let everyone know how it goes. Good day to all.

Do You Shoot At A "Range"?

I am new to Air Rifles with one rifle: HW30s. Before I bought this rifle I looked into places to shoot. About 40 miles from my home is the Holly Shelter Game Lands - thousands of acres of game lands in Eastern North Carolina. They have a "Shooting Range" there that's closed Monday and Tuesday and open the other five days a week with a person on site that manages the range. They have one pistol range and a bunch for rifles (not Air Rifles) set at 200 yards. It cost $13. / Day to shoot - whether you shoot for 10 minutes or eight hours it's $13. And I want to shoot at maximum distances of 50 yards so the rifle targets at 200 yards does not work for me.
Close to home are commercial indoor ranges that are designed for pistol shooting with emphasis on Concealed Carry classes and pistol sales - again not really ideal for my situation. I asked one land owner I know if I could shoot on his land and he said no problem - there is no range there but I could set up targets - but it's deer season until Jan 1, 2025, and not the safest place to be and yesterday he changed his mind and I can't shoot there. Where do you shoot: on your own land, on someone else's land with permission, at a Range "Club" where you pay a monthly fee, or at commercial indoor and/or outdoor Ranges? It's depressing to me! Anyone else face this dilemma?

Easy way to see pellet holes in a paper targets at a distance

Hello everyone,

Shooting paper targets with Iron Sights and Red Dot Scope, I cannot see the pellet holes when the target is 15-feet or at a further distance. I have been using a large Spotting Scope but it is always in the way and not very easy to use, ( photo #1 ).

Last week I ordered an inexpensive baby camera with a monitor, ( $27.00 ). I made a stable wood base for the Camera so that it could be set up just about anywhere near a target. The monitor has a built in battery which allows it to be used remotely, so I can set it right next to my Pistol for easy viewing. I now I can see each POI as I shoot and make any adjustments in my hold position as required.

FX  Fx Bobcat Mk1

I just purchased a FX Bobcat .22 MK1. This particular gun did not come with a regulator. Hoping to hear from someone who has installed a regulator on this gun and what they thought about the change in the gun. The gun shoots fantastic but definitely has a sweet spot in PSI to get a consistent shot string.

  • Question
Air Arms  What power TX200 should I choose?

Hello all,
Newbie to this group!

I've decided to treat myself to a new a springer and after hours of reading and watching reviews, I have finally decided to buy myself a TX200.
I live in France which means I have the option of picking up either a 12 fpe (16 joules) model or a 14.7 fpe (20 joules) model.
Most of my shooting is done in my garden and I shoot at 20 to 40m paper targets. I also do a little plinking at roughly the same distance.
I currently shoot a BSA meteor Evo which shoots at 20 joules (14.7fpe) and I really fancy an upgrade...

Do you recommend I pick the higher power 14.7 fpe model or the UK equivalent non FAC 12 fpe model?
They are both the same price and the rifle being so expensive, I really want to make the best choice!

All advice and input is greatly appreciated
