Advice needed on caliber selection

I am looking to get back into airguns (loved them as a kid). My main use will be shooting paper on my own property. To keep all the neighbors happy, I will almost certainly need to use lead free ammo (it's a wetland area).

My question is, should I go up in Caliber to compensate for the lighter lead free ammo? If so, how much should I go up if I was originally planning on a 22 caliber? 30 cal or 25 cal?

Would appreciate any advice

RAW Rapid  22cal RAW Efficiency

After well over a year of messing with my 22cal RAW, I'm finally done. I'm using a 21" LW 12-groove barrel that Scott machined for me, as I prefer the balance to the longer 23" barrels. I'm using an SSG in conjunction with a TM hammer. The reg is set to 135 Bar. I set it up to shoot MRD Light pellets at 35fpe (about 95% of max energy at this reg pressure), which average 1/2" groups at 50yds. I also swapped out the RAW chassis and MDT buttstock. I'm happy with the final setup.

I did a shot count yesterday. I'm getting 120 shots with an SD of 7 with a 3ksi fill, shooting down to about 125 Bar. Does my shot count seem about right for this power level?

Thanks!

PCP Rifle  SOLD Logun MKII .177 Price Drop

I bought this rifle a few years back for Hunter Field Target. .177 with a New Element Helix 6-24x50 scope with adjustable rings. I decided to shoot WFT. So built a custom gun for that instead. It has a small blemish on the stock you can see in the pics. Beautiful gun but I don't use it and hate to see a gun this nice just sit. I'm hoping to find her a forever home with someone that will appreciate her. Smoothest cocking bolt I've ever felt. 11 shot in-line magazine built in. Stupidly smooth trigger. Gun, scope, mounts, probe, and hardcase. $800 shipped CONUS.

PCP Rifle  SOLD Custom Air Venturi Mini Bullpup .22 only 24" long

Hey guys,

This is a personal project I took on to build a mini bullpup out of the avenger.

It has a shortened barrel, recrowned and lapped.

Trigger modifications for a much more consistent and usable trigger. (Will potentially sell the trigger kit to people if there is enough interest)

Chopped stock

Custom moderator, barrel being shorter than factory is able to be freefloated and maintain excellent accuracy.

Dual mini air cylinders

The scope rail has been modified lightly to get the scope lower using low rings.

On a full fill, I believe it gets 50 shots at just over 20fpe. Loves Hades, and is an excellent squirrel gun.

Comes with two mags. Scope is a 30mm 4-14 SF ffp by truglo, very similar to the Bushnell FFP.

$500 shipped for gun, $600 with Scope reasonable offers entertained.

Get your one of a kind compact 24" bullpup here!

New Beeman AR2079A is looking like a real winner.

Last week I received a new Beeman AR2079A from Airgun Archer Fun in Canada. It is a .177 with a small hpa tank. I already have a Beeman AR2078B side lever CO2 that I really really like so I decided to roll the dice again and go for the hpa version. It took some work to make the 2078B into the great shooter that it is, so I knew what I was getting into with this new one. It’s all part of the fun. The internals on these are rough, but we are talking about sub $200 rifles. They are truly diamonds in the rough however.
This 2079A arrived with the same heavy trigger with plenty of creep and grittiness. Sounds like she is wasting air and the cocking effort is rough and inconsistent. Just what I was expecting; and I am looking forward to tearing her apart and smoothing everything out. However, right off the bat I’m thinking that I have a real winner here. I’ve done nothing so far, not even cleaned the barrel yet, and she’s shooting groups like these. These are five shot groups, at 12 yards, with the included aperture sights. I was rested on bags. I’m sure the bore is dirty, I know the trigger is “challenging“, but I’m really happy with this performance so far. I haven’t put her over the chrony yet but I will soon.

Introduction - New to PCP after 40+ years with Pew Pews

As a grey haired, semi-retired old dude, I'm excited to join this community. I am a PCP newb, just dipping my toes into the sport. I'm starting with a Barra 250Z .25 caliber rifle, a Huma-Air Mod 40 compensator, a Vertex Sonora 4-12 x 44 scope, .98 CI carbon fiber air tank, and a GX CS3 compressor.

While PCP powered pistols and rifles are new to me, gun powder has been a constant. Most of my pew-pews are based on the AR-15/10 platform, with long distance, (+500 meters), as my sport of choice. I also shoot pistols, trap and skeet. My interest in PCP rifles comes from my desire to shoot without the need to drive to the range or dropping two dollars every time I pull the trigger.

The first thing I did with my 250Z was take it apart. As everyone is probably aware, the Barra 250Z is a LONG rifle. And once you mount a moderator/suppressor, the length can become an issue. (FYI, the Barra 250Z absolutely requires an after market moderator to be back yard friendly - out of the box this puppy is loud!) To make the rifle easier to transport, in addition to a quick suppressor mount, I wanted to utilize a LAW folding buffer tube adapter. (a knock off - I'm not using a real LAW adapter that costs more than the rifle). I discovered the buffer tube on the Barra 250Z is not Mil Spec. I could not fit the LAW adaptor, or a standard AR-15 buffer tube. I had to run a 1 3/16"- 16 tap to open up the threads for a Mil Spec buffer tube/adapter.

All in all, the buffer tube was a personal mod - so no real issue. And after a good cleaning and reassembly, I have a pretty sweet back yard tack driver I can shoot for pennies a shot without upsetting the neighbors. Life is good!

FX  DRS pro and Saber Tactical stock

I ordered an FX DRS PRO, and cheaped out and ordered the saber tactical stock with it.
This has to be the worst stock for this gun ever:

1. the safety will bind up unless you adjust the set screw. It prevents it from going on SAFE. It shipped to me this way, locked on fire mode. WOW.
2. The default spot for the trigger blade makes it hit the trigger guard. Cannot move the trigger.
3. The rear stock screw collides with the trigger block, so even after you dig out a 1mm hex and adjust the trigger shoe, you cannot move the trigger. If the rear screw is tightened at all, it hits the trigger block and prevents it from moving.

I can't believe they shipped it to me in this condition. This was not a "free install" of the stock, this was slapping some bolts on and throwing it in a box. I really expected something functional for $2000, but what I got was just absolutely sad.

I'm going to be sending this saber tactical stock back, and asking for something that actually fits the gun I ordered with it.

Shopping a for Airguns , or parts Abroad.

Is is safe to shop at Alibaba ? There is message in my inbox about Trade Assurance , but I can't read ad the print is too small , and I don't have bifocals.
I like the prices they have on 700 cc air bottles. Do these guys have a warranty, or offer an extended that they will actually provide , or honor of you have trouble with one of there products.
Same goes for AliExpress. OldVet wants to know.

Weird thought/question.....

Have any of you 3D printer guys ever thought about or tried printing plastic pellets? I figured speed would be off the charts & destabilizing but I was thinking about guys who are "locked down" in winter & shooting in their basements. Don't think I've ever seen a thread on here regarding this. Got me curious.

Beeman  New to me R8 is a keeper.

20250122_143342.jpg
Got this R8 (on the right) a few weeks ago. I wasn't sure I'd keep it or not because I didn't realize how heavy they are. Then I liked it less after I shot it. The barrel shot to the right a fair bit, accuracy wasn't great, it was dieseling and the extreme spead was something like 60. Obviously it needed work.

Apart in the shop it got worse. The threaded receiver was already too loose and rotates past alignment. Which I thought odd because this gun's never been apart. Every other threaded receiver rifle I've worked on were very tight the first time apart.

Then I found the piston seal lip was all chewed up. This explained the dieseling and huge extreme spread. There was a corresponding rough piece of braze sticking up in the end corner of the compression tube that was chewing up the seal lip. This is really bad because it'll perpetually trash every replacement seal. Effectively making the gun trash.
20250218_123934.jpg

Then I went to the barrel. It has the roughest cut leade I've ever seen, a loose bore and no choke. I recently had a R7 sent to me with a similar barrel and the accuracy was terribly inconsistent. The only practical option was to replace it. Problem here is R8 barrels don't grow on trees.

On top of all this I messed up the only good part on the gun when I knocked it over and lightly dented the stock. Between all these things wrong and the denting the stock I almost wanted to cry. After all I couldn't sell it knowing all these things wrong with it. My only choice was to try to fix it.

I wont get into details but after a good bit of head scratching I finally figured out how to fix the comp tube. I replaced the piston seal with a Vortek seal. Locktited the receiver and did all the other regular tune stuff. I rolled the dice on the barrel as is and would worry about fixing it if it wasn't accurate. Then the weather went to ship and wasn't able to test it for over a week. Until today.
Screenshot_20250222_172332_ShotView.jpg

I'm very happy to say the gun is accurate and a joy to shoot. The energy calculation is a little off because the actual pellet was 7.33gr. It's actually 8.67 fpe. I'm quite proud of the chronograph numbers. A single digit extreme spread over 45 shots is pretty darn good. The accuracy is much better than I'd ever expect from a loose chokeless barrel with a crappie leade. Certainly good enough for me. Especially considering this is only initial testing in less than ideal conditions. These are five shot groups (circle OD is 0.562") at 25 yards.
20250222_171621.jpg

After today's succesful testing I gifted it a Beeman Honey Dipper and a new breech seal

FWB  FWB 150 I'm Obsessed

So I pulled the trigger on a Feinwerkbau 150 on E-bay last week. Had recently been serviced and I wanted to try an FWB with the side lever. Amazing seller, literally received within a couple of days (he also lives in Florida). I asked what was done and he casually replies that it was tuned by David Slade. No other info. Shoots like a dream. 6.2 fpe with JSB 7.33. Ridiculously accurate, no perceptible recoil, it came with the original diopter sight but I immediately put on a scope. I wanted to shoot it like all my other springers at 25 to 50 yards. Wanted to wait for a windless day but couldn't. Shot two 30 yard challenge cards with a significant cross wind. Still impressed. I thought this deserves it's own thread, I don't know much about these rifles. I read somewhere (here) that they were made from 1962-1963. Which would be cool since I was born in '63. And now I want to try the 300 series...

My first PCPs

Thank you for the advice. My sons surprised me with this Avenge X .25 with scope and barrel band from Pyramid Air. I’m so grateful!! I ended up buying a compressor and a Benjamin Kratos from Air Gun Revision. My sons also bought me a plenum that I have no idea what it does. Oh they also bought me a DFL Sumo. I haven’t played with them yet. I’m so happy and excited!!
