Question for the backyard plinkers

Hello everyone. I hope you all are having a good day. I’m mostly a backyard plinker. In my city, there’s a city code that requires everyone living in the city limits must have a rock/cement wall in their backyard. My yard measures 25 yards wide. I was curious what you all are using for a backstop (if you use one). I need some ideas. Thanks in advance.

PCP Pistol  NLA Artemis PP700 Field Target Pistol

Artemis PP700 Field Target Pistol, converted to .177 with HW barrel by Motorhead. 788fps with JSB 8.44. Very accurate get 25-30 shots with it maybe more... just haven't played much with it, not a pistol shooter. The knee rest can be taken off easily via a couple of screws at the bottom. $220

D-Lead heavy metal hand soap

Typically when I do a lot of tuning (handling lead projectiles) I use a nitrile glove to limit my exposure. Recently, during some higher velocity testing into my indoor pellet trap, I noticed a significant amount of lead dust gathering on my bench in between the muzzle and the chronograph. It got me thinking, and I finally decided to purchase some special soap. This stuff is supposed to remove heavy metals from the skin, so I figured... why not!

Squirrel hunting preparation advice

Hello all,

I am settled in at the farm here, and got out to do some deer hunting last fall and I actually got one, which was a nice change of pace, usually I don't see any deer. While I was out there, I saw a lot of fox squirrels. I had seen one or two in the past but was under the impression there were not many. I want to get back there in the fall looking for Stewie, as all squirrels are named, indicating their final destination, but will need a little practice and knowledge before then. My Taipan Short in .25 cal is zipping 25 grain JSBs along at just under 900 fps. I haven't warmed up to the scope that is on there, and I think I am going to put my Westhunter FFP IR 3-12x on it.

What do you experienced squirrel hunters use for a zero? I know shots can vary from quite close to as far as one can responsibly take a shot. Do you zero closer and hold over for longer shots? Zero in the middle and hold over/under as needed?

Do any of you use shooting sticks, or just field positions, sit against/lean on trees, etc?

Any advice on how to get my hold over right when shooting up into the trees? Things you do to practice?

Other advice to a beginner squirrel hunter would be appreciated.

Thank you,
-pg

Umarex  Notos .22 / FX STX Liner / Nate Chrony Issues

I am having an issue, I use the new Nate Chrony, and it seems that after every 15-20 shots the velocity starts to drop and eventually I get a notification that the sensors need to be cleaned. Sure enough, clean chrono sensors with s cotton swab and run a couple of patches through the barrel liner, and it's already dirty. Once cleaned it goes back to accurate readings.

Any idea why this would be happening? Using JSB or Diablo 18.3 grain pellets. Are these "dirty"? Can I use a brass brush in this liner to clean also? Haven't done anything except patched with Balsrol cleaner and dry patches so far.

This does not happen with my Zelos .25, so I am at a loss for why this is happening with a brand new liner on my Notos?

All suggestions appreciated as usual!

PCP Rifle  WTS Western Rattler .357 w/ many accessories

I have a .357 semi auto Western rattler that I'm looking at selling. Everything pictured comes with and is brand new. There is a chip out of the plastic near the end of the gun which does not affect it in anyway. Ask me if you want anymore pictures.

Price : 2500$ (I have over 4200$ into it)

Nightvision Scope, small red dot, 300+ slugs of different variations, new case, CS4 air pump etc

I would accept gold or silver as trade but really looking for cash. I am located in the Nashville area and would consider delivering it if within 300 miles and if the price is right. (Gotta love prius MPG) I will not accept money orders or any type of weird scamming attempts.

PCP Rifle  NLA WTT .25 FX Royale 500 Laminate

Hi All,

Bought this a few months back and picked up a synthetic stock version which serves the outdoor conditions up here much better.

Has a new Huma reg, brass hammer spring lock (to keep hammer spring adjustment in place), carbon fiber bottle, 2 magazines and single shot tray. Laminate stock is in good shape and is the ambidextrous type so is good for lefties or right hand shooters.

Current tune is the MK2 at 850 and are amazingly accurate, also loves the Hades at 900.

A very solid Royale 500!

Trade for other PCP airguns in .22 or .25 will add cash on my end if need be. If you wish to purchase instead of trade shoot me a message.

Scope, rings, bipod, bottle clamp not included.

PCP Rifle  SOLD WTS Brocock Sonoran .30 Reduced

Buyer disappeared so relisting….

This is one I REALLY wish had a traditional stock….This gun with the Sub MOA barrel is insanely accurate with 44.75 and 50.15 as well as the AEA and JTS variants. Being a big, tall guy the semi-bullpup just doesn’t fit me very well.

I am the original owner. Comes with the AoA power tune as well as 700cc 300 bar bottle, one magazine.

Has maybe 50 shots through it in total.

Note-Atlas bipod, scope, rings, 0dB not included….

Thinking 1650 and we can split the shipping.

PayPal for pmt

AEA/JTS Pellets and Fouling

First, let me say that I love the quality and uniformity of the AEA/JTS pellets - they beat the pants off JSB/FX/AA comparable pellets. I think that the AEA/JTS are awesome for .22 and larger for benchrest (other than the nipple on the front). But, I have been struggling lately with barrel fouling/leading with using the AEA/JTS pellets. I have tried cleaning the barrel more frequently, as well as using Slick 50 lube on them. Some barrels can go 75 to 100 rounds, but others may only go 20 to 30 rounds before visible inaccuracies show up. That is, I can get 1-hole groups for 20-30/75-100 rounds, then flyers show up. This appears to be a repeatable pattern. I am attributing the flyers to fouling, as I could see lead buildup on the front of a pellet when I pushed it through the barrel after a shooing session.

Based on their hardness and anecdotal accounts, the AEA/JTS pellets are reported to have higher tin content in them. So, I am wondering if the tin, being a lower melting point, increases the fouling issue. That is, since tin melts lower, you get bullet dust/swarf building up, then sticking and melting together into the problematic areas. I recall one shooter at the PAC pulling a ribbon of fouling out after shooting JTS pellets for a long period without cleaning. Is it possible that colder outside temperatures where I shoot, are exacerbating the issue?

Is there any way to combat this issue? I have tried HBN, but not much success. I tried sizing the 21 gr .22, which extended the cleaning period, but didn't eliminate it. I am currently using Slick 50, which seems to help, but fouling still a problem that would be an issue during a longer benchrest match. I have polished and waxed the bore with multiple chemicals, with limited to no success.

Any suggestions before I give up on this brand?

Brocock/BRK  Should I add a regulator?

AOA was giving away a couple NOS unregulated Brocock XRs and a NOS unregulated Daystate Revere seriously cheap. I couldn’t resist the .25 Brocock. They have listed another in .22 but they are asking more money after the first 3 sold immediately. On purchasing it I figured there was plenty of room in the price to add a Huma or Lane regulator. After shooting it and noticing no real change in POI, I am wondering if I should leave it the way it is. I have regulated PCPs and I would have thought I was done with unregulated guns. Is there still a place for unregulated PCPs? The fill pressure is 200 bar yet it has the same 250 bar rated bottle as the regulated version so that may or may not be beneficial as you can only shoot to reg pressure vs shooting unregulated till the POI drops off the map.

PCP Rifle  NLA FX Crown MkII 500mm .22 in GRS Stock

FX Crown MKII with Nordic Wolf GRS stock. This rifle is set up with a 500mm .22 barrel. Asking $1500 TYD for rifle with, two FX magazines, and a hard case (scope, wheel and bipod not included). PayPal (FF or invoiced if you pay additional %) preferred.

I machined out a place for an inset Anshutz UIT rail which is screwed and epoxied in place (similar to the Dreamline GRS stock). Included is a 45mm long picatinny rail which slides in the UIT rail allowing me to use picatinny bipod attached to the stock rather than the bottle adapter.

1742938583199.png

The rifle has the FX Crown Power Upgrade kit (new spring carrier, 10 gram hammer weight, pin probe) installed, but I decided to put in a heavier Huma Brass hammer weight and keep the pellet probe. I will include the parts removed as well as the pin probe and 10 gr hammer weight.

As setup now I am shooting JSB/FX 18.1 gr pellets at 880fps with an SD of 2 and an ES of 9. I just tried the AEA 21.9gr Diabolo pellets at 820fps and am getting ES of 7 and SD of 1.5. Check out the AGN 30 Yd Challenge for an example of the accuracy at 30 and 40 yds. Last week scored a 200/200 with 15x’s on the 30yd Challenge with the 21.9’s (see Post #3018).
