Am I the only one getting unwanted notifications?

I am getting notifications EVERY time a new thread is posted. How do I turn this off? I posted two threads in the forum feedback sub forum but got zero help there. Is anyone else getting this? It started a couple weeks ago and I just don’t need or want this info.

I am not following these people. Here is an example:

American Air Arms  Evol having cardiac arrest

New to me 15in Evol in .22… needed some work from the beginning and I though I got it there but this last thing is damn persistent…

It’ll shot a handful of shots or so at the speed I set it to (965fps with 18grain / 890ish with 22 grain), then 1 to 3 or so shots way slower, then back to set speed. Example:

IMG_5807.png

IMG_5808.png

This happens with any and all pellets I put through, 18gr, 22gr, 25gr doesn’t matter. With the 22 it’ll shoot 890, then 830-850, then 880 again. 25gr 840ish, then 800 and back up.

Spread was way worse when I got it. What I’ve done so far is: Set reg to 2,100psi, pulled hammer and spring, cleaned hammer channel properly, cleaned and polished hammer and spring, balanced hammer to reg at around 96.5-97% of max speed…

I’m almost guessing the reg is shot but, per gauge, holding pressure constant. Interestingly, it has the purple reg but based on the rest of the gun and serial it is a newer model and should have the blue reg, right?! The gun also sounds different when the slow shots occur, I can tell without looking at the chrony numbers… obviously also from POI… when it’s shooting as it’s supposed to it’s very accurate with the 18gr but the weird slow shots are all over so can’t trust it for now. Tried with different mods obviously but no change. The one on it right now is a Falx, which can go up to .30 so there shouldn’t be clipping.

Hoping the Evol fanbase has ideas ;) Thanks in advance!! Orings to rebuild the reg and basically the entire thing are on the way.

602-489-8828

Up for sale is my Umarex NOTOS in .22. And just like the other ones, In perfect condition. I probably put less than 100 pellets thru it and back to the gun safe. I’m selling all these guns for the same reason, no time to shoot them.

Comes in the factory box with all paperwork. 2 magazines cause I purchased an extra one when I picked up the gun from AoA. I might not have the single shot tray that came with it. (Might). I have to go thru my storage boxes and see if I can find it. That’s the only thing missing.

185 shipped in the Continental USA.

PayPal F&F, Zelle or Venmo as usual.

Another of those... please help me decide on a air rifle.

Hey yall, im wanting some advice from a group of far more knowledgeable people than I.
Im wanting to get a better quality airgun. Its main use will be hunting squirrels and shooting invasives around the property (starlings, euro sparrows, pigeons), and maybe rats around the barn. Target shooting is a 2nd priority.

Im torn. Ive wanted a pcp for a long time because of the accuracy. So on 1 hand, im considering a marauder. Relatively inexpensive, especially if I went used, easy to work on, lower pressure so easier to hand pump, fairly accurate.

Or getting a high quality springer. My only experience with springer is low quality stuff that ive been pretty unhappy with. Similar price to the marauder, very little to work on. No need for a pump. Can be accurate but also harder to shoot, harder on scopes. Always ready to walk out the door and shoot.

Ranges for the invasives, probably 50 yards and in. Targets, as far as I can hit. Have a 100 yard range in my backyard, so any distance up to there.

I like the fact that a nice springer is always ready to go, but having never shot a nice one, i think im a little jaded.

Between something like a marauder, and a r9 or hw50, what would you all recommend?

Whichever i go with would be in 22 cal most likely.

Thanks!

Hatsan  tearing down your gun for the first time

Well I finally conquered my anxiety about tearing my new Hatsan At44 177 down. I had been trying my best to ignore the crunchy grinding sound each time I pulled on the cocking lever. I thought it's new and just needs to be broken in. Well after about a thousand shots and still crunchy bunches of oats. But it's new still under warranty and I'm not very knowledgeable about the internals of pcp. I DON'T WANT TO RUIN MY GUN! Oh well here goes nothing. Did my online research and found other people doing similar projects but with different platforms but getting a feel for what I would find and then how to correct the issues. Should have taken photos and probably would have saved myself a lot of time. Any way I broke it down and cleaned polished and deburred it put it back together. Problem is that it is not working. %$@#* Break it down again look for the problem. Don't find anything. Study the schematic nothing stands out. Back together again but not as complete as the first time. Still not WORKING. AHHH I knew I should have just left well enough alone. Well that ship has sailed and I can't unring this bell. I'm going back in and I'm not going to let this mechanical dilemma conquer me. It has got to be something so dumb that I must be looking at it wrong. So I start seeing what exactly is going on with why it's not working. The cocking arm seems jammed up on something. No it's the hammer getting jammed. Why is the hammer getting jammed? Oh because I reinstalled the hammer upside down. It wasn't able to clear the cocking lever. Dumb dumb dumb dummy. Anyway 3rd time is the charm. Back together tested and it works. Praise the Lord.

And, drum roll please 🥁, no more crunchy. Smooth cocking and I think possibly more accurate. I'll have to do more testing after these torrential rains let up. I'm so happy to still have a shooting rifle instead of an 11lbs paper weight.

So I hope some of you that read this are getting a little chuckle on the misadventures of a newb. But I also hope that others will find this post to be the motivation that they need to tackle a problem that seems to difficult to do. Sometimes you may find that the things you think you can't do are things you can't do because you never tried to do them. One good thing about 3 break downs and 3 reassemblies I have loads of confidence for the next time I need to get down into it's guts.

Thanks for reading.

PCP Rifle  NLA AirForce Talon SS .20 and .22 calibers - $325 - SOLD

I bought this Talon over a year ago and only shot it a few times – too many toys and not enough time? I have not shot the .20 barrel. It’s in very clean condition with only the light marks shown in the picture. It has been holding air since I bought it. It comes with two barrels – a .20 and a .22 which are easy to swap out. It’s the quick release model and I’ll remove the tank to help with shipping. $325 which includes insured shipping.

HW/Weihrauch  What a difference a seal makes.

I've been tinkering with tune kits, springs and seals in my springers for more than a decade. No fancy tools and no sophisticated skills, but I consider tinkering to be part of the fun. I just got my first lesson on the importance of a properly fit piston seal.

A few months ago, I bought another .177 hw30s when Krale had them on sale. This was my third hw30s or R7 in .177. It was such a great deal that I'm kicking myself for not also buying another hw50s in .177 🤦‍♂️. This gun sat on my workbench for a few months until a move was completed, and the snow started to melt. A couple of weeks ago I installed a new ARH kit in the gun, removed the factory lubes and applied ultimox 205. My go-to combination is an ARH kit and a Vortek piston seal, but I didn't have a Vortek seal in my spares bin. I replaced the factory piston seal with another 25mm seal of unknown origin (I think it was from Custon Air Seals, but not sure). Snugged everything up, mounted a Hawke Vantage 2-7x32 scope, and then started shooting. I put probably 150 JSB 8.4s through the gun, mainly just plinking pine cones and off hand shooting at targets. It was a delight to shoot, very smooth to cock, and very accurage. I figured that I had a winner, and then pulled out my chrony to record the numbers. First shot was 405fps. Can't be right 🤷‍♂️. Five more shots, all about 405-410fps. What the heck? I knew something was way off, but did not know if it was a problem with the spring or the seals. Went back to my workbench and reinstalled the factory piston seal. Velocity bumped up to about 500fps on average over a dozen shots. Better, but still not right. Back to the workbench, took the gun completely apart and did a thorough check of all parts. Nothing appeared to be amiss.

Next step was to order a couple more Vortek 25mm piston seals. Those arrived today, and I immediately went back to the workbench to install the Vortek piston seal and put everything back together. Put about a dozen pellets (JSB 8.4s) through the gun, and everything felt great as it did before. Pulled out the crony, and the first shot was 625fps. A few dozen more shots over the crony all give me very similar results. Mounted the scope, and accuracy remained excellent. All is now well.

I've never experienced such a wide variance in FPS from changing the piston seal alone. And subjectively, I really did not 'feel' any meaningful difference in the fit of the first seal that shot 405fps and the Vortek seal that shot 625fps. But the chrony reveals the truth that even slight differences in fit (maybe beyond what you can subjectively feel) make a huge difference.

PCP then springer?

When I discovered adult air guns over the last six months and how I could shoot in my backyard, I went all-in on PCPs for target and varmint hunting (all .22s). Once my PCP collection grew I got curious about springers.

I didn’t consider them before because I thought they would be underpowered (wrong!), and I wondered why because the thought of not needing anything else except pellets was great. I guess the convenience of multiple shot availability and follow-up shot speed of PCPs won and still wins the day, but at a substantial price premium.

Now that I have a Diana 54 and an HW97 inbound, I’m enjoying the springers more than my PCPs. I can see that PCPs are more powerful, but there’s something cool about loading your shots one at a time on a high quality, steel springer that I find to be much more appealing.

Am I being a weirdo or are there like-minded shooters out there as well?

Taipan  New Taipan Vet 2, .22, long

Picked up a Vet 2 long in .22 from Tony at Talon Airguns. I asked for it to be tuned for MRDs and that’s how it arrived.
IMG_1148.jpeg

Since Tony is in FL and I am in the Midwest I expected the numbers to be a bit different so I ran it over a crono after I cleaned the barrel.
JSB 25.4gr
Shot count: 30
Low: 909 FPS
Hi: 919 FPS
Avg: 915 FPS
Spread: 10 FPS
STD Dev: 3.2 FPS

The first thing I noticed is the barrel is rather floppy. The scope mounts on top of the barrel too, which is odd but hey I don’t design these things. The new side cocking lever is absolutely sublime (I bored that quote from @tommyb ). I really didn’t know how to take his description but now I get it. The pull backwards is so easy and silky smooth. It’s better than any other rifle I have owned.

The trigger is good but not as good as my Vet 1. First stage is a bit heavier but not bad. It comes to a positive wall then it has quite a bit of creep before it breaks. I am sure I can adjust that out but I am just reporting how it was delivered.

I tried a variety of pellets, all 25 grain MRD variants: AEA, JTS, FX (large and small base), JSB and Range Masters. The gun likes the JSB variants better than the AEA and JTS pellets.

I tried the included barrel band but it actually made the accuracy worse. I moved it from the end of the tube, towards the stock in 1/2” increments but all it soaps was made the groups larger instead of smaller. The best accuracy was without the barrel band.

The shot cycle is rather odd. As I break the shot and watch the impact on the target I see a lot of vibration in the scope. This is no doubt from the way the scope is mounted on the barrel. It’s not a bad thing but just really different from what I am used to. It reminds me of watching a slow motion video.

Well I guess it’s time to talk about the accuracy. I sighted it in at 25Y then moved the target out to 50Y, because this is where this gun plans to play. I have no interest in slugs so this will only be a pellets only gun. This is the first day that I have shot it but all in all, I am really happy with this gun.

Up for sale is my American Air Arms Evol Mini in .22.
Another fine shooting airgun I purchased and not having time to enjoy. I installed a folding stick adapter I had laying around. I still have all the factory parts which you can put back in 10 minutes with zero effort. The gun shoots beautiful, pellet on pellet at 26 yards which is what my backyard is.
I’ve only had the gun in my backyard. Currently shooting the JSB 18gr at around 870 FPS very consistently. Not a single scratch or dent. She’s 100% perfect. Comes as shown in the picture, with 3 magazines. I also have the DonnyFL thread adapter in case you want to use a different moderator. All purchased from the awesome guys at Airguns of Arizona.

PayPal F&F, Zelle or Venmo as usual.
