Yong Heng water cooler mod. (One of the best I’ve seen)

Everyone is looking for something for nothing. Unfortunately, reality bites us in the ass. The big difference between these cheap Chinese compressors and the quality high end compressors is heat management. Of course this is where the money is..Yes, you can buy a $300 compressor and the then spend $1000 in cooling mods ending up with a half baked rig or you can buy the correct rig in the first place. Guess which is less costly?

If you must use the cheap compressors, buy a TIG welding torch cooler. Incorporate that and use a very long coiled high pressure coil of tubing interconnecting the different compressor stages. The tubing should be fan cooled. My German Bauer uses about 8 meters of inter stage tubing. A TIG cooler uses a 15 liter tank with a radiator and a fan. The output is a 1/4 line and the pressure is strong enough to fire a water stream 40 feet. For what they are, they are relatively inexpensive.

Don't put cheap Chinese compressor down to make you feel good about spending 4 k on your Bauer. Then yong Heng compressor is nothing but cheap junk. It's a well made affordable compressor for the money. It gets the job done. Only thing I suggest is get a gold filter which is like $70. Don't need to spend $400 on a alpha. Who needs to spend $1000 on cooling the yong Heng. Money must grow on trees where you live. Cause home Depot sell $5 bucket that you can fill with cool tap water and ice and it will keep the yong heng cool.

Is not a bad idea, but you are a bit wrong on the need and the price. Also is not all about money. I have a lot of fun making things like that for 300 I can take it down and learn a lot, for 3.000 I will think about that... The mod in this post is less than $100 in cost. The TIG cooler looks good but way too much for the YH needs, not necessary (specially with a US$1.000 price tag). There are better options for less than US$200 that work, for example similar to the TIG and more apropiate for YH like compressor with a water reservoir:

Or this one without water

YH like compressors are ok and they work, duration usually is between 1 and 2 years without any maintenance (IME) and spare parts are wide available. So for me, is a big YES, even when after 1.3 years my YH piston broke (was a $25 fix shipping included spare part). And I only shoot high end AG, test bottles after a year using it, and they are totally dry (I do use filters). Of course are not bauer or coltri, but why do you need a breathing air compressor for a non breathing air aplication?. (quality might be one reason, but each spend what ever feels like is good).

I still don't understand why someone doesn't remove the water pump and just hook this thing up to a garden hose. Plenty of house pressure water at a fixed temperature -- no need for a fan, radiators, water pump, etc. Assuming the water temp isn't high no need for ice to compensate for the water heating loop created by a closed circular pumping system. *shrugs*
I can think of about a 1,000 gallons of reason why I wouldn't waste Fresh Water on cooling my YH.
