Yong Heng water cooler mod. (One of the best I’ve seen)

This is just a short video that I came across of someone who has modded their Yong Heng 300bar compressor with a nice Perspex water box on the side and a water cooler heat exchanger at the rear with an additional fan increasing the duty cycle to safer levels.

This is not my setup. I just found this video and thought any one who has a Yong Heng and has a bit of garage time could do the same.

Ice machine problem When I was in the Navy we had a ice machine that couldn’t make enough ice due to it being water cooled and the cooling water was too warm. We got ahold of a big coil of copper tubing connected to ice machine and we put the coil into an adjacent walk in cooler that allowed the ice machine to perform as it was designed to. You can do the same thing with the water cooled pump put a coil of metal (better heat transfer) in a garbage can filled with water and ice and just loupe the water to and from the compressor through the water bath. In cold winters just leave the coil outside while you fill your tank. Just remember to bring it in before it freezes when finished.

I still don't understand why someone doesn't remove the water pump and just hook this thing up to a garden hose. Plenty of house pressure water at a fixed temperature -- no need for a fan, radiators, water pump, etc. Assuming the water temp isn't high no need for ice to compensate for the water heating loop created by a closed circular pumping system. *shrugs*

Thats exactly what I have been doing . The water pump that came with my Yong Heng is still in the box. Water cooling has never been an issue for me.

Thank you! I've been watching the Yong Heng threads regarding upgraded water pumps, radiated cooling systems, ice buckets, and a few regarding breakage/overheating because the drain or fill tube slipped out. I was legitimately curious as to why no one has done this yet -- seems like an easy way to cool the system and less error prone. I appreciate you confirming it works! I figured it would work better to avoid thermal buildup as well since you're not recirculating the cooling water.

Cause you have to find fittings to make the hose fit in the compressor. And who wants to run a garden hose into their living room. If filling from outside, that would be great cause it doesn't reuse the same water. But most folks fill their guns inside their house. Ice in a bucket with a better aquarium pump is a much better idea. Just change water once it gets warm. No need a long garden hose inside your own living room.

Everyone is looking for something for nothing. Unfortunately, reality bites us in the ass. The big difference between these cheap Chinese compressors and the quality high end compressors is heat management. Of course this is where the money is..Yes, you can buy a $300 compressor and the then spend $1000 in cooling mods ending up with a half baked rig or you can buy the correct rig in the first place. Guess which is less costly?

If you must use the cheap compressors, buy a TIG welding torch cooler. Incorporate that and use a very long coiled high pressure coil of tubing interconnecting the different compressor stages. The tubing should be fan cooled. My German Bauer uses about 8 meters of inter stage tubing. A TIG cooler uses a 15 liter tank with a radiator and a fan. The output is a 1/4 line and the pressure is strong enough to fire a water stream 40 feet. For what they are, they are relatively inexpensive.
