Good glass and side focus

Hi all,

New here but not necessarily to shooting. Recently acquired a Benjamin Armada and the scope that came stock won't quite cut it.

Without getting crazy expensive, can someone possibly suggest a scope with top notch glass and smooth side focus? Repeatability would be nice in the turrets but not as important as the clarity/resolution and focusing ability. Pretty much a set it and forget in kind of deal with all hold off/overs to follow.

Coming from a long range shooting backround i get the need for excellent glass but it's been a few years and there're a LOT on new names out there in the optics industry.

Even suggesting some threads with side by side glass quality comparisons would help.

Thanks

FFPs are difficult to see their fine reticle at the lower magnification settings which renders them unusable in most situations unless they got daytime bright illumination.

I prefer SFP easy to see the reticle at low power.

Alpha6 cheaper here if you buying Just one or two. Free Shipping Lifetime Warranty from a company that truly cares about customer service and satisfaction. You be really hard hard pressed to find a significantly clearer 27x scope at even 4x-6x the price and eyebox friendliness is incredible. Side focus knob is rather stiff when new get a 3d printed side wheel from @tstran here.

This refurb Centerpoint 30mm 3-12x44 PLT BDC with lifetime warranty can't be beat too. It's optically comparable to scopes around 3x to 4x it's price. Picture stays clear throughout a very broad range of yards so you don't need to fiddle with its side focus much.

Thanks for the interest..

To answer some questions.. 1st or 2nd FP? It used to be I'd get a better quality 2nd fp scope cheaper because ffp was more expensive to produce. Not sure if that's still true.(?) Honestly, I'd don't have a preference yet as I'm just getting into airgunning. Have to try both at closer distances to really make that decision. As long as the glass is clear edge to edge, no major aberrations and focuses to a pin point, I'm good. ( I was a bit of an optics snob in another life.)

Magnification range? Again, I'm open to exploring. Probably won't be using a spotting scope so higher magnification seems appropriate. That Alpha6 is pretty sexy.

Used to be the general rule was to spend as much on the scope as you did the rifle. Not so sure that needs to be applied in this discipline. No recoil to contend with. Not really fighting atmospheric conditions and probably won't be twisting turrets for every shot. Might be fun to find a sub $500 scope that ticks all the boxes. I know the wife would be thrilled..😃

I'll probably give that Alpha6 a go. If it fits... awesome! If not, we move on to another one.

That's part of the fun, no?

Thanks for the input gentlemen

Afterthought: Close focus on the Alpha6?

Don't be afraid of going cheap because you probably won't find any scope significantly better than these specific Centerpoint and Alpha6 scopes without spending significantly more money like 4x to 5x to see any noteworthy difference in glass quality especially the eye friendliness and unbelievable brightness whiteness like Leupold whiteness at full magnification. Not that many scopes have these plusses even high end high dollar scopes and I tried most already.

The centerpoint is a good one .i bought one from field supply for 59$. Its better then my utg hunter for clarity. I actually bought a more expensive scope for the first time. The barra h50 3-15×50. They are asking 350$ on ebay I offered 200$ and they took it. I received the scope today and am very impressed. Very robust build. Clear at all magnification. Lifetime warranty. I'm new to expensive scopes so I probably cant tell you how great it actually is but I'm very happy with my purchase.

You might want to reconsider. Most deals like these have a short shelf life. They sell out,or there is a price change/spec change, different production run.. whatever. In any case I would be surprised to these same deals in 6-8 weeks.

Yes there will be other deals in the future and the hunt is part of the fun but there is something to be said for the bird in the hand.

Edited to add that the CP listed above is now out of stock.

Those are some really valid points. I've seen that happen with certain runs of binoculars over the years. Scopes too as a matter of fact.. So I went ahead and ordered one. Was considering trading a Ninja air tank for one (alpha6) but still not sure I want to part ways with it yet. Pumping is still easier than driving miles to fill a tank but these old(er) shoulders may argue that point.

Will possibly have a Center Point 4-16x56 for sale in the near future. Aaaand maybe an air tank.

Further updates as events warrant.

Thanks Guys

I tried the Helix when it was on sale for $299 at DVOR it went straight back returned for credit for different brand totally totally totally unacceptable for a $299 scope!!! and after another AGN member told me his Titan didn't focus clear at max power not even close to max power I had to try one to see a $799 blatant rip off for myself and then the Japan Nexus and the Tract Toric blew it out of the water and I really really really believe they all are way way way overpriced by a factor of 2-4x for what you get when compared to much cheaper alternatives that got way better glass. IMHO.

Something seriously wrong with the eyebox pickiness on the Helix that's even far worse than the $699 JAPAN SWFA SS. A sub $300 (more like $275 or $209 or less) Bushnell Engage and Nitro Or even Alpha6 has better glass pretty much clear all the way compared to the $799 Titan. Even the $200 shipped! Barra Hero FT is clearer than the $1499 Nexus at full power.

You can pay 2x to 4x for overpriced scopes with inferior glass instead of doing your homework and actually trying cheaper alternatives it's your hard earned money to spend wisely. (OR NOT!)

Just buy from return friendly dealers it's that simple unless you already tried and own one and want several more of it from a cheaper place that's not return friendly. That way you know exactly what you are getting.
