Elgamo 300 refurbishment

A few years ago, I was gifted an Elgamo 300. The barrel had 22 pellets stuck in it and I ordered a leather seal. I have finally taken the airgun apart, refinished the stock and I am working on preparing to put this elegant piece of history back together. I found the seal to be made of a plastic type material with a portion was broken off and embedded into the the grease and gunk at the distant end of the chamber. All of that is cleaned out and I used Charlie da Tuna's guides for tuning the air gun. The spring is broken and I will need another.

If there are any tuners out there, I have a questions:
1. The inside diameter of the tube is .955 inch (25.04mm) and the outside diameter of the leather seal is 1.106 inch (28.10mm). Should I put this in a lathe and sand it down or take a soft blow hammer and force it in? Do ant of you have any other sugestions (the seal was purchased from Gamo for the Elgamo 300.)
2. I could get an air piston from custom air seals in australia, www.customairseals.com/, or purchase a spring and cut it to size. The gas ram would require additional machining to get it correct, I have not measured the spring to see what would be a suitable substitute.

I ordered and received Kyrotox grease and oil thanks to outdooman and PhatMan recommending these products.

My final problem is the rear site is missing the adjustment screw/site. I have found the screw in England and will order it. Any thoughts on the actual rear sight?

Thanks for helping.

1. To fit your leather seal that is oversize you need roll with pressure directed at the tip till it reduces and starts to form a cup shape, doing this by rolling it in oil. Here is a YouTube link showing the procedure.

2. Use a spring for your Elgamo 300, keep it sweet and original. Measure the existing one overall length first you can always go say +5% or -5% in length. Also if needed cut a coil off or coils. Measure external spring diameter and internal diameter, Number of coils and thickness of wire used. This should get you in the ball park, Also you can go with a slightly thicker wire gauge if you want a little more poke. Customairseals in Australia can custom make you any spring size in three different grades of material. Just ask Lorry to help you out.

3. I am pretty sure that the Gamo Delta rear sight unit, part number(14964) should fit and work okay as a replacement if you want to go down that path.

I hope this help you out.

Here are pictures thanks to Glem.Chally. The first shows the piston with the broken seal and the second is the cleaned up broken spring. The chunk of plastic was lodged in grease in the chamber. My next steps are to get the seal adjusted per the recommendation from gamotech00 and await a new spring.

If the replacement piston seal is leather, soaking it w/silicone and twisting it in should work without sanding. It should conform to the compression chamber with some shooting. It was sent by Gamo for that gun..

Din't like the sights on my Delta, visible side-to-side play on rear sight. I mounted an "Industry" brand rear sight on the scope rail.

Been into my Expo and 68. Use many of the same parts as that 300. A leather PS might use slightly different mounting hardware than ur showing.

should be a 25mm seal. Wouldn't be surprised if a Maccari R7 spring was dimensionally correct.

let us know how it shoots!
