Altaros regulator

Hi guys,

Coincidence or not, but I installed one last week for a club member :)
He's got a AR extreme in .25 cal, which was giving a very poor shotcount, and not even a bell curve.
After the reg. Install (150bar), it gave 25 shots at 75 joules (King Heavies, 261m/s) from a 250bar fill down to 150bar. It made a lot of noise, a sign of a lot of wasted air.
I still was not happy with the result, although it was shooting very accurate, and the shots were very consistent.
Because I modified my Fx Boss to .25 cal (LW polygonal barrel) and getting 65 shots from a 250bar fill at 80 joules, I thought the AR could do much better.

So, I got behind my lathe, and made a stainless steel hammer with a delrin body to reduce the weight quite a bit (About 30% of the original weight)
After some trial and error tuning, I ended up with the stiffest spring he has gotten with the gun.
I also made the new hammer quite a bit deeper, so when the hammer isn't cocked, the spring tension on the main valve is very little. This drastically reduces hammer bounce (air waste) Cocking effort is even lighter than the original setting with a weaker spring with more pre-tension.

Long story short, now the AR is getting a whopping 57 shots from 250 to150bar, with the same 75 joule energy..... I have to admit that I was kind of shocked in a positive way about these results.
So the Altaros reg. is definitely a recommended upgrade for the Air Ranger, but keep in mind may be difficult to align the filling port and manometer with breech with the stock parts.
I finally mounted it with use of 0.1mm teflon tape instead of an O-ring, because otherwise it was impossible to get the port aligned.

Regards,

Gijs
