Wolverine B Hi-Lite "regulated"

Hey guys,

Everyone says they don't need a regulator. I agree and love this rifle. I have some time off this week and will install a regulator between the bottle and receiver. I plan to start off with the regulator set at 150 BAR and see what happens to the shot string. Any thoughts before I get started?

Mine is the .22 version and likes the JSB 18.1s. I have no real reason to do it other than I want to :)

Remember New Coke? It almost destroyed the company because they tried to fix something that wasn't broken. The same concept applies here. I just bought an unregulated Wolverine B Hi-Lite last month for my wife and decided I needed to test it myself. I was impressed with the shot strings I was getting over the chronograph. Consistent 10 shot groups with the largest spread of 18 fps using JSB 18.13s. This is quite a contrast to my FX Bobcat .22. It had a spread of 85 fps unregulated (I had a regulator installed this weekend and solved that issue). There is no need to regulate your gun if it performs as well as mine (I mean my wife's). Don't fix it if it ain't broke. It is just another part where a leak could develop and cause problems. Resist the urge! Just say no! Or, disregard my advice and install the regulator. Just be sure and let everyone here know how it performs afterward. Good luck!

Well, I am waiting on the regulator. This explains the lack of an update.

I thought I would take a moment and explain my reason for wanting to try this. I am blessed to have a home that backs up to Corp property. I shoot every day from my back porch and can shoot from 0 to 125 yards. I have several fixed target locations with spinners and such as we'll as several logs littered with golf tees and acorns or paintballs.

I am sighted in at a far zero of 40 yards but enjoy stretching out to 93 yards where I have a fallen log with a spinner permanently installed as well as a holder for groupings...

I don't claim to be able to explain why, but my rifle definitely prints two groups at this range while at good fill pressure. At about 180 BAR +\- I see a shift that goes low left about 1.5 inch while shooting the 93 yard target. The really strange thing is that it is consistent for 20+ shots after getting to 180 BAR... Just low left about 1.5". At 60 yards and under, this is not really noticeable when shooting acorns or paintballs and a full 75-80 shots are very pleasing.

My thought is to regulate to 150 and eliminate the POI shift all together. On this rifle the difference in avg velocity at 230 BAR and 150 BAR is not significant. Chronograph says I am at 898 - 922 from 230 BAR to 150 BAR.

I have a 1/16" nylon spacer ring behind the hammer spring and backed off the return spring from full clockwise till I saw a velocity reduction.

The rifle is awesome quiet and very accurate. I love the rifle and am very happy with the results of a 30+ shot group at 93 yards. If a small investment results in a 75 shot group rivaling my current 30 shot group it will be a very worthwhile spend.

Truth is that I am not sure about the regulated air volume impact that will happen as I have not removed the bottle to calculate and can't till I have the reg on hand to measure. I am hoping the adjustment in the reg will let me adjust enough to maintain 900 +\-.

More soon.

All I can say is that the rifle has exceeded my expectations. Everything is now dialed in, polished and seated. I can fill to 280 Bar and shoot down to 150 Bar yielding 100 hits on a 1" dia spinner at 50 yards outdoors using unsorted JSB 15.9s. Shots #101 and 102 rang my 2" bell at 108 yards. We then came off reg and called it a session. I don't know what else one could expect from a .22 air rifle.

The rifle is shooting just a hair over 30 ft-lb @ 925fps.

For recreational shooting with friends or my kids this is the most pleasing I have owned or personally handled.

I am in middle Tn and have a great backyard bounded by corps property. I have a compressor😉 Someone should stop bye some time. Air rifles only and they have to be well moderated. I have great neighbors; I want to keep it that way.

At the time I ordered, one could ask for a specific setting. They are adjustable though and you can see the procedure on the site or on YouTube... Remember that the Daystate slingshot valve likes a higher pressure. I feel that trying to regulate a Daystate with a slingshot valve below 150Bar is going to be tricky if you want to maintain 30 ft-lb. Perhaps it can be done; I thought I'd let the valve work as designed and use a higher regulator pressure.

J Wilson, I am going to put a 24" barrel on my 25 Wolverine. Just for some fun I might get one of these regs . Not that I need one for the hunting I do. I checked on one awhile back & the person I contacted said with the energy I was trying to get with my 17" barrel he did not think their reg would be a great help as my curve was already pretty good. I think I needed more than 170 setting, & that would not work. But with the longer barrel, I can probably go less than 170. Your results are very good. You really made a good gun, great.

"If the manufacturer didn’t want to go longer/faster"………Exactly, but I do....I did the same thing with my unregulated FX Royale in 22. I went 19 to a 24". I average 1000 fps/18 grain & little to no loss of accuracy. That is with the hammer spring set as low as I can get it w/o cutting spring. Not sure I can expect the same results with the .25 Wolverine & may lose accuracy and easily go back to the 17". Just playing around anyway. But back to the original post, I heard/read so many people say that the reg, would not help the Daystate Wolverine enough to bother I think JWilson has proven that wrong in the .22 version anyway.

If it is necessary to increase the volume, we can offer an additional chamber with a volume of about 14CC, which can be screwed into the regulator and thus increase the volume on the total 26CC.
This chamber is inappropriate for rifles where the regulator screwed into a bottle that forms a gun stock (too much extension, around 93mm ). https://www.ebay.com/itm/153183962726
