Why kill crows?

One time I was walking in the cottonwood grove below my house right after sunset and this giant black shadow flew just a few feet above me and scared the crap out of me haha… it was one of the Ravens giving me a buzz.
Yeah, had an uncle get attacked by an owl one time, tore up his head, but he still laughed at it. Man, I'll tell you what, I love swallows and stuff, but they are scarry! I was walking along hunting groundhogs when, BOOM BOOM BOOM! Man, those swallows were big time buzzing me, trying to eat me alive, I had to retreat. They had a nest nearby, so that is the reason.

Once many decades back I was out coyote calling using mouth calls. I had a brown/tan camo 'jeep cap' on. While calling, something slammed into my head from the back & side! A Red Tailed hawk saw me moving my head left & right looking for an in coming coyote and the hawk thought my head was an injured rabbit! To this day I think about that encounter every time I'm out calling coyotes!

I had a pet Raven too, though it was half grown when I rescued it so he never did get totally tame. He wouldn't tolerate being touched but I could feed it chunky dog food from arms length.

We named him Crozy, lol, and he lived with my ducks and chickens until he could fly. It was hilarious watching him interact with all those birds. I called it poultry drama, lol.

One day Crozy was following me all over the place making funny sounds. He was saying goodbye because the next day he was gone.

A few months later he showed up with a wife. She didn't tame up all that much even after a couple years.

They had a few generations of Crozy's but the grandkids eventually chased Crozy and his wife off and took over the same nest he was born in.

Before he disappeared forever he'd follow me around when I went on hikes with my dog. One time I was near the top of a big hill and he'd be flying/soaring right in front of me.

My #1 FUNNEST memory was when he decided to come play with my Ferret Rocky in our yard. He'd poke Rocky on the butt and Rocky would turn around and make a run at him to retaliate so Crozy would fly off a ways. This went on for a while and it was super entertaining too me. I laughed and laughed at this spectacle.

The last time I saw Crozy was when riding my ebike a couple miles back in the FS. I knew it was him because he didn't fly off. He was looking really bad so I talked to him for a few minutes and that was that.

His 8 or so generations of legacy still use that nest and one Raven in particular hangs out and not being too scared of us.
