Some Nielsen Slugs at 85 yards

Hello everyone,

My good friend @davelarson has told me how well Slugs do in windy condition when he shoots. Well I ordered some Nielsen slugs in two sizes in the .177 caliber, some 12.5gr and some 15.0gr. I shot both sizes at 25 yards and they were pretty close to being equal in accuracy. Then I moved out to 50 yards with variable wind from 10-20 and guts to 25 and the 15.0 edged out the 12.5 by a little bit. I have my big wood target frame out at 85 yards and no paper target on it at the time but I decided to shoot at it just to see how much drop from the 50 yard. I aimed at a previous hole and the Slug only dropped about 2" but was dead on in line so I shot 4 more times. I taped a Dime on the board and took this photo, needless to say that I am pleased how well these are shooting.

I have ordered a mix bag of various brands in the 15gr size to try out. I also ordered 3 different sizes from Zan and anxious to give these a try out.

Wow, that is great accuracy. Is that from using your Crown or your RAW?
Hello @tcarlson777

No Tom it is from my new Daystate Wolverine R HP, this rifle really likes Slugs. The factory/AOA originally tuned it for JSB MRD 13.43 but I was not happy with the way they shoot and gave the Slugs a try. I need to try a lot more brands and weights but I believe I can find that "perfect one" 😇.

I’m going to send you some JSB Knockouts in 13.43, they are best in my .177 RedWolf.
Excellent shooting ThomasT!

Man, I'm jealous, @ThomasT !! I've been drooling over those Wolverines at AofA for weeks. The price drops are making them hard to resist, as they are like $700-800 off sticker price.
Hello @tcarlson777

I love the fact that is so much like my Crown but it will / does shoot slugs. Shooting the Wolverine is very much like the Crown but a bit different feel on the trigger which I do like. I have the trigger set so low on the Crown that a mouse fart will set it off.......I need to adjust it up a bit.

You need another rifle, right?

Well Thomas, I am amazed! I do feel my RAW does better with slugs at a distance, but does better with pellets in close, like 50 yards and closer. Good shootin'

The 15 grain NSA slugs also did well for me, it was the first size i ran out off, the 12.5 lasted a bit longer, though i did just have 2 boxes of each.
I like to get me some more, but the NSA slugs in EU land are a lot more expensive than Zan / JSB or H&N slugs, like 30-40 % more as i recall.

I shoot 75 - 100 M with the slugs and on a good day i would not mind opening that up to 120-130 M, shorter and i break out the Vulcan 3, even if that too with its shorter CZ barrel do damn well with lighter slugs too.
BUT ! moving forward i will just shoot pellets in the Vulcan 3

I have high hopes for my new 700 mm Heavy barrel,,,,, cant get my maverick back from repair fast enough.

Hello everyone,

I just shot this target at 25 yards and it took some time to get my scope zeroed in for some reason , I believe it was the operator. Anyway I shot the JSB KnockOut Slugs 13.43 this time and not too bad for Slugs on this close range.

True i find 13 grain slugs OK on shorter distances as i have some times murdered our 50 M range with those.
We have a combo freezer / cooler there, i dont know what to do when we have to throw it out, i guess wear 2 set of gloves, CUZ the damn thing are so shot up and beyond Swiss cheese look.
Maybe get a crane CUZ there also got to be some lead in there somewhere.

THOMAS,
Do we have any idea on WHAT SPEEDS you were shooting the 12.5 & 15 NSA's ?

Nice accuracy for sure !!
Hello @Motorhead
I did not shoot the Slugs over the chronograph but here are the results for the JSB MRD 13.43. If the weather is good tomorrow I will shoot several Slugs over the chronograph.

Hello everyone

OK @Motorhead , you wanted to know the chronograph results for the two Nielsen Slugs, I am attaching a copy and it also includes two additional items, 1-wadcutter pellet and 1-slug. Note that the JSB Slug 13.43 produced the best overall numbers. Dave @davelarson finds these to shoot in his Daystate rifles the best also. All of the slugs shot good, but the wadcutters were all over my target.
