If I was Nicolay....I would make those pellets at .285" and have custom barrels made for them.
Then make only the pellets available to everyone. All the cry babies could then go pound sand. That would be awesome! Hahaha

Thanks for a great suggestion, Mike. That would be clever but not many could pull that off. He would THEN, be following the rules without a doubt.

I can fill you in; basically, the guy accused Mike and I of being sore losers and complaining. He also bet we had all paid for by our sponsors and heavily modded equipment. He threw in some other lively thoughts in which I've forgotten.
We didn't compete at PAC, so that doesn't hold water. We don't get all paid for so that assumption is totally delusional as well. I questioned if that account dude is on was a alt, undercover account. Anyway, you didn't miss much.

In a “less-than-tactful“ way, said account brought up the notion that team shooters likely have access to Airgun equipment and accessories that are not mass-produced. Claiming said equipment also has an unfair advantage.
While likely true, the argument contained derogatory comments and did not apply to the current rules established by the event.
Had it been written more tactfully it could have led to a worthwhile discussion.

I truly appreciate your and Centercut's and others' input here.
I also appreciate that Nicolay's equipment was reviewed and approved by the organizers prior to competing; at more than one event.
It is fair and appropriate to criticize the rule, without criticizing the competitor. The rule may be worth revisiting, but you can't just rewrite what's been approved and done.
And since everyone is asking my opinion ( ;-p ), this is no different than what the Karma guys did. Nicolay's win bears no asterisk in my book.

Boy, that took a while to catch up on all the comments!
First of all, thanks to Tyler and PA for putting on this event. This is the first time I have made it to PA (and probably the last), but the event was extremely well run, especially considering the number of competitors. I did not so as well as I expected or am capable of, but it was great event none the less.
The field target was better than I expected. After first showing up, I was concerned that the FT was going to be in the open. The layout of the course was in the hardwoods and was a great change from the pines and scrub oak (and cactus) we shoot at in Arizona. All the competitors were very positive in their attitude and I met some great guys.
I am not a big benchrest shooter, but I liked the cameras on the targets. It was nice to be able to see someone else's target without having to use a spotting scope.
I thought I was ready for the speed (piston), but Nathan and the wind kind of kicked my butt. I got to the 55 yarders kind of even and totally forgot to adjust for the wind! Stupid me!
As far as the primary comments on this regarding the type of ammo available, my personal opinion is:
If you can make a "pellet" that looks like a pellet, shoots like a pellet and loads like a pellet, then it is a pellet. More power to you if you want to spend a bunch of time and money creating a better "pellet". I could machine really accurate pellets for myself and make them "commercially available" and maybe considered "mass produced", but they would probably cost $10 each. Good luck selling those! If (when) I retire and can do that, who knows what I can come up with. But what is "mass produced"? To produce in quantity, usually by machinery. What number is "quantity"?
If pellets need to be mass produced, why not everything else? Custom stocks, custom barrels, triggers, rests, etc. Most of these items are one-offs and not "mass produced". A custom barrel, with a specific twist rate is probably not a "mass produced" item. I just had a RAW .177 made for me to my own specs and that was not "mass produced". Should I not be allowed to use it, even though most of the actual parts may have been "mass produced"?
Anyways, if I had the resources, time, inclination and natural ability, would I be able to make 1st place? Maybe, but probably not as I suck at reading the wind and I am too impatient to wait on it! I just like sending projectiles down range, whether it is pellets, bullets, arrows, rocks from a slingshot or whatever. Let us try to remember that at the end of the day, none of this really matters. What matters is the friends we make, the fun times we have and the ability to make a positive impact on those around us.
Let's just have some fun! See you all at EBR! I will be the one toward the bottom of the scoreboard.
