Not cherry picking a single unicorn target

By no means do you "suck" at 100 yards
As competition shooters, we may look at the target and think, "that will not win" ...but it doesn't mean it sucks!!
Shooting 100 yards with pellets is HARD
My RAW is more suited as a 50 yard rifle ...i can stack them , but at 100, it is varied.
A few years back, 220 was the winning scores for 100 yard BR, Now they are in the high 230's depending on the wind
Your shooting would have been in contention, so I don't think it sucks.
a winning card...no ....but a sucking card...definitely not!
my 2 cents
Mike
Thanks guys. It IS difficult for me shooting pellets at 100Y. In all honesty I’d rather shoot my Thomas but I can’t see the tiny .22 holes @100y so that is the reason I am shooting a .30. I can barely see those holes. My eye sight is horrible and I’ve tried all different $$$$ scopes up to 60X and I still can’t see the 22 holes. Not making excuses, it is what it is…

I guess I should have scored those targets, duh 🙄

I dug the targets out and scored them just for kicks.

Thought you guys might appreciate a rare 'cheap' rifle that shoots! The rifle is all stock though I did a bunch of work to it. Single stage trigger at 8oz with ZERO take-up. Bore was pretty good but I also polished it. Hammer/spring/valve etc. Unregulated with a 30-shot string that has an ES of 8fps at 890fps.

The rifle is a Reximex Lyra in .22 shooting 18.3 AEA. The center red spot was seasoning the bore after cleaning with several turret adjustments. Three POAs on the red spot. Then, I went to six consecutive 5-shot groups around the upper half of the target/plate. You can see I lost one shot at 12:00 badly and don't now why it happened??? Range is 50yds (measured with a tape) and is my home range. Optic is Mueller 8-32x44 at 32X with dot reticle.

I've never had an air rifle at any price that shoots as well as this one!

Posting it anyway...Buhaahaahaa!!

Awesome bullseye @ 100 !

This is the 1st shot at a splatter target that I ever took at 100 yards…

…. unfortunately, this early promise did not turn me into a good 100 yard shooter… yet, lol.

I’ve done this a few times since on splatter targets at 100, and always make the long walk out to take a picture, it just feels so darn good, lol.

Just think Ed, not only was that your first ever 100Y ‘X’ with your first shot….but you also shot a ‘phenomenal one hole group.’

Mike

I like #6, but I also see a lot of 10’s, 9’s and only two 8’s. This has to be slugs, pellets can’t make those nice round holes can they?

My guess - your new Blackwolf. Nice card!
Yes. That was a 237 with slugs - .25 Altaros Queen 60 grain at 875 fps, BC of 0.245 G1. Here’s a card in similar wind with pellets - AEA 50.5 at 905 fps , BC of 0.070 GA. Those “8”s that got away from me due to wind shift as trigger is pulled turn into 5s or 6s. Targets 2, 4, and 20. This was my 214 finals card in the toughest most unpredictable wind I’ve ever shot in. Wind flags were completely useless. 😞

The pellets did well too. I had heard the 50.1g pellets had a decent BC, but it’s nice to see the ‘proof is in the pudding.’

I can relate to flags being almost useless with high switching wind. The 237 was awesome!

I guess I’m glad I found my home with the 30 and 40Y Target Challenges. Have Total respect and awe for the 100 yard BR game.

What gun?

I hear you Tom. My happy place is 50Y but I still like to dip my toe in the 100Y waters from time to time. I have a decent handle on 50Y but pellets at 100Y is a real challenge (for me).

Both 100Y Slug qual relays were 237. Finals I didn’t have my mojo and shot 230. 😞 5th place.
Slug gun is .25 Skout EVO with 800mm 1:16 twist FX Superior Heavy liner.

100Y Pellet I had high aggregate in my qual relays and in finals got caught one too many times by switching wind. It was shifting and changing direction and speed every couple of seconds. Wind flags and even sighters weren’t that helpful. It turned into a guessing game. I was 5th and the only difference was my guess factor was lower. I got caught 3 times and 1-3 got caught twice.
Gun was .30 Skout Epoch with .30 FX 700mm 1:40 twist liner.

Mike

Think back to several years ago when you won EBR with pellets, and with a much lower score than 230.

Fast forward to current times with slugs and an astounding ‘230’ puts you in 5th place. Mind boggling.

The wind truly is the enemy to be conquered.

Ha ha…

@Ezana4CE I will be shooting in the PAC 100Y BR this year.
@igolfat8 It’s just one day. If you’re anything like me, the more you shoot the more you will improve if your technique is decent. Keep it up. Hopefully you have access to other benchrest competitors that you can learn from. Mastering wind reading is almost an art form.

The more I practice the luckierI get. I practice at least 8 hours a week and shoot N50 matches 2X a month. I practice more at 50Y since that is what I like to shoot most. 100Y is a challenge for me but I only shoot it occasionally and since PAC is coming up I have added 100Y into my practice routine. I don’t have any unrealistic expectations other than to have fun and not finish dead last.
