Please excuse my ignorance, I am new and trying to learn about Pcp rifles. Does the tighter or more pressure a hammer spring have effect the power of fps ?
Thank you very much, With a lighter hammer spring ,if I understood what you said it will both effect the FPS and you will get less shots on an air fill correct ?Generally yes.
There are a couple of edge cases where it does not:
- With a regulated PCP, there comes a point where more hammer spring tension does not increase velocity, it’s just wasting air because the valve is being knocked open for so long that the pellet has already left the barrel.
- If the hammer strikes the valve stem so hard that it drives the stem flush to the back of the valve, the hammer will rebound. The result is less valve dwell—in other words it snaps closed sooner than it would have otherwise—and the velocity is diminished.
