Okay, I have the opportunity to try before you buy. The Brocock Ranger XR is gun I have been interested in for a while. Dana’s review of the Atomic (its second half brother) with the sister marrying the brother.
plus the self appointed disciple of Brocock @L.Leon made me give the Ranger a serious look. I am rebuilding my collection, which now is Shadow the Uragan Compact, and the loaner Katran and now the Ranger.
Today i had a work and weather window that allowed me to take the ranger to the range to test out it accuracy at 25 and 50 yards. I had my doubts the Ranger would be as accurate as I found it to be, but we call that a pleasant surprise.
I shot on the high power setting I received the gun, this was 14.5 FPE at the high power running 778 FPS setting using 10.34 grain JSB pellets, same for hades.
Wind conditions were nominal and regardless it didn’t seem to affect accuracy at 50 yards.
Impressions, the gun is built like a shooter brick house, and the all metal receiver surpasses the ruggedness of the leshiy 2, being a former owner, spoiler alert, future owner I should know. Yes, Dana did his tests on the atomic, I still give my view. Metal is metal and it beats plastic. It’s a $1700 package so I expect quality and accuracy, and if you don’t, your an absolute idiot!!!!
Anyways, here are the groups from this afternoon using JSB 10.34 gr Heavy at 25 yards (first 3), then 50 yards (last 3), and all are at a minimum 5 shot groups, last one a full 13 shot magazine
The Ranger XR for a range bench gun “SUCKS DONKEY BALLS” because of the small air reservoir, but for a true hunter (which it is) less of an issue.
