Brocock Ranger XR at 25 and 50 yards

Okay, I have the opportunity to try before you buy. The Brocock Ranger XR is gun I have been interested in for a while. Dana’s review of the Atomic (its second half brother) with the sister marrying the brother. 😂 plus the self appointed disciple of Brocock @L.Leon made me give the Ranger a serious look. I am rebuilding my collection, which now is Shadow the Uragan Compact, and the loaner Katran and now the Ranger.

Today i had a work and weather window that allowed me to take the ranger to the range to test out it accuracy at 25 and 50 yards. I had my doubts the Ranger would be as accurate as I found it to be, but we call that a pleasant surprise.

I shot on the high power setting I received the gun, this was 14.5 FPE at the high power running 778 FPS setting using 10.34 grain JSB pellets, same for hades.
Wind conditions were nominal and regardless it didn’t seem to affect accuracy at 50 yards.

Impressions, the gun is built like a shooter brick house, and the all metal receiver surpasses the ruggedness of the leshiy 2, being a former owner, spoiler alert, future owner I should know. Yes, Dana did his tests on the atomic, I still give my view. Metal is metal and it beats plastic. It’s a $1700 package so I expect quality and accuracy, and if you don’t, your an absolute idiot!!!!

Anyways, here are the groups from this afternoon using JSB 10.34 gr Heavy at 25 yards (first 3), then 50 yards (last 3), and all are at a minimum 5 shot groups, last one a full 13 shot magazine

The Ranger XR for a range bench gun “SUCKS DONKEY BALLS” because of the small air reservoir, but for a true hunter (which it is) less of an issue.

The new system is fine man, just need to put 1 pic in at a time like I have done, its much quicker and after using it for just a couple hours, I am thoroughly impressed.
As far as the rifle goes , ive been intrigued with them for a truck gun but it seems for the price point there are a ton of other equally as well performing options out there for a little less.

Ctairgunner1288, yes there are less expensive options. But how many would take long term rough truck gun usage is the question too.

I see AoA has them on sale for 1695 so I will use that price, most are 1795ish, with that said Id instantly go to a Taipan Vet Compact (can be had for $1400) , then at the same price point as the Ranger XR you have the Kalibrgun Compact that puts out more power and is too produced in the eastern european block which seem to be putting out some of the most ROBUST accurate rifles out there, even the Airmaks Caiman ($1350), im not saying brococks are not nice, I am not saying they are bad, it just seems like theyre priced very high. The ranger XR intrigued me a lot due to size.

I have a soft spot for Brococks, even though some which I've owned have been better than others. The Ranger is an interesting little gun but as Blackpaw notes, it is specifically a compact hunter. I would get really bored having to air it up after each 5 shot group (O.K., an exaggeration).

But as a little backpack gun it looks to be a nice one, and more so now that AoA has dropped their price to $1,500 including the mod when you buy it with an Iguana knock-down target.

In utility I think that the Ranger compares very similarly to the Leshiy Classic, although perhaps it has a little less power as compared to the Leshiy. So I'm pretty well set for a foldable backpack gun with a small air reservoir.

Blackpaw - I should send you my Leshiy so you could do a side-by-side comparison. :p

@TMH thanks and I will be returning a loaner Katran very soon sir. I plan to order another Leshiy 2 right around end of the month or early July (depending on when my client pays me for June services).

I will use the Leshiy 2 for more heavy hitting, and this Ranger easily surpasses the Leshiy 2 I had in 177 in accuracy.

Value wise, I think it is $150 over priced, even with the moderator included. However, the hammer spring is adjustable, if desired, but I will leave things alone for now. I like compact guns.
