Best compressor under $400?

I know yer not going to want to hear this but it's the Yong Heng. It's probly the only one worth buying until you get to the $3000 Alkin, Bauer ect... units and it's only $300.

Of course you have to put up with the Chines QC.

Very few, like the Hill are not made in China and the Hill compressor is not designed to fill more than guns or last without frequent rebuilds. Just a glorified electric hand pump it is.

The Omega and Air Venturi may be a little better but again they may not be. Still they are either electrified hand pumps or cheap Chinese piston pumps so you can't win for loosing when it comes to compressors. You also pay five times as much in price for that little bit better. Why do that when you can buy five Yong Hengs and have enough spare parts to run one for twenty years?

It's sad but the way I see it we are in pretty bad shape compressor wise in the world. If you don't want to tinker then you have to spend allot of money.

Don't get the simple version whatever you do!  It does not have the cyclone water separator so you will be buying a far more expensive aftermarket water separator or filter system or the parts to upgrade your system.

There are four, make that five now, separate and distinct Yong Heng units.

The Yong Heng "Simple" version least expensive does not have a water separator you need one.

If you messed up and got the “Simple” version you can get parts on Aliexpress to add it for <$40 or you can spend much more on a decent aftermarket water separator and filter.

The "Auto Stop" version shuts off near 3000psi probly not a good thing for most people.

So you likely want the "Hardcover" or "Set Pressure" versions your choice on the 110V or 220V.

The 220V will run approximately 15% faster here in the USA as we run our 220V at 60hz instead of the 50hz found elsewhere. This may or may not be a problem depending on the compressors environment and cooling.

The Set pressure model has a gauge that can often need replaced every 8 to 12 months or so but otherwise it is fine.

There is now a new Digital version of the Yong Heng out. I know little about it as it has not been around long enough but there is a review available and it looks to be a better unit than the “Set Pressure” model. The poor quality gauge, with the adjustable dial, on the Set Pressure version that failed every few months to a year, has been replaced by a digital readout that gives much more information.

I am aware that shipping has gone way up and this is no longer the least expensive place to buy the YH but it will show you the different models so you know what to look for elsewhere.

If your main use of a compressor is to fill tanks (not just fill your guns air tube) then definitely go with the Yong Heng! DON'T get the auto stop. You want to be there monitoring function & cut off time/pressure. If you keep them in the safe temperature zone they do a great job (at least mine has). For $300 & under it's a great, if not the only, option.

I don't know about best, for larger fills in particular, it's likely the water cooled yong heng as others have already mentioned.

But for filling guns directly, I have a similar air cooled unit to the one that Bravo1956 linked to, called a Spritech, and so far it's been easy and great to use filling Kratos, Marauder SAM and LCS SK19.

Very portable.

I am sure the yong Heng is a better investment for the more serious user, but this is so simple, and it's settable pressure for the auto shut off is a good feature on this model.

I've been told (By biohazard man among others) to expect no more than about 20 hours before these start to self destruct. So again, the YongHeng may be a far better investment.

GX CS2 under $400, Amazon.

It's a very simple air cooled design with water separator. I use mine every day to top off guns.

Looks like the Hardcase model to me. You can tell the difference between it and the simple version easily as the Simple version has only two stainless lines and is missing the water separator block on one side. The Hardcover has three stainless lines and blocks on both sides of the first stage cylinder.

You will have to look at the specs to see if you are getting the Hardcase or the Auto Shutoff model. It will explain the auto shut off feature. Just don't get it confusled with the Set pressure model as it sort of sounds the same.
