- Early Review of SpriTech PCP Air Compressor

First, I was surprised at the size.
Even though I'd read it was small, and I measure things all day, I still had preconceived ideas based on the larger models I have seen. It really is much smaller than I anticipated, (you can see it next to a sharpie for scale ) Compact size is a big plus which makes the 12volt set up actually very convenient for remote location filling. It could easily be in the trunk. For now, i have only tested it at home on AC power.

- It came very well packaged, and with good clear instructions, as well as a one page quick start.
- Included are both AC and 12Vdc power cords, parts, foster cable and filter holder, spare filters, including one preinstalled inline. As with everything that seems to come with a foster cable, I only wish it were longer. At least with this, unlike like with the hand pump, it doesn't mean I have to put the rifle down on the floor!

- Really there was no set up, just plug it in and go.

- I've used this only twice now, but it filled both my Benjamin Kratos and Dianna/Artemis Bandit to where I set the automatic cut off, which in this case was just shy of 3000psi for each. (approx 2,800psi, or 18.5ish BAR)

- The auto cut off was easy to set, and worked perfectly both times.
- Gauge appears to be accurate. (I have nothing good to compare it to, just the two on the airguns I charged. All three gauges agreed with each other.)
- Temps never got above mid 30's celsius, which is really cool. It's not going to shut down from temp until mid 80's according to the manual.
- It's really quiet. I was fearing something much louder. The Fan is loud, for a small fan but that's about it.
- It actually has two fans, one in the power supply that stays on the whole time it is plugged in, then the one you turn on.
- No leaks, or issues. Foster connections were good.
- It took "about" (didn't remember to start a timer) 6 minutes to bring the Kratos (480cc @ 2850psi * rated for 3000 ) up from about 1,200 psi. It seemed longer with anticipation!
- Just over two minutes to fill the little Bandit.
(compared to my "bicycle pump", this if great!)

I don't have a small carbon tank yet, so I could not test up to higher 4000plus psi. Watching it slow down after 2000 on the 480 cc Kratos bottle, I'm not too sure how well it would do with a larger/higher pressure bottle like that. But for filling a gun directly, it seems a very good deal. I paid $379.00 with a coupon when I got mine. Right now they are down another $10.00 This only less than double what I paid for the Benjamin bicycle pump.

Obviously I have no idea yet on longevity.
I will come back in a few months or so with an update. For now you can be sure that if there is no update, that means it is still working fine. If anything goes wrong, you'll here from me the same day. (as will Amazon :) )

Nice write up. My first caution for you when filling larger tanks is...never start the pump when there is pressure in the hose. I broke two motor shafts.on similar pumps and in the end deduced that it was from having stopped the pump to allow it to cool off and then restarting with pressure in the hose.

Enjoy it and keep it cool!

This makes sense, thanks for what sounds like great advice.

Looks very similar to the nomad. It for much less money.
these 12v compressors will come in handy out in the field or at the range. Something I’ve been interested in looking into for mild use when in a bind. Use the bigger (more reliable) compressor at home, and this can be a backup or field unit that gets less use. At that rate it’ll last for years!

thanks for the review. Very informative.

Just received the cheaper version without autostop and built in dc converter. This one comes with an external converter so you can plug in to your home 110v. A bit cheaper too at 275.00

I’ve only used it to top off my 300cc bottle on the FX Compact M3.

Im a little concerned with the temperature reaching 70 degrees Celsius within just a few minutes. You also get a little “overheated Chinese motor smell”, But it did fill the bottle all the way to 300 bars fairly quick from 150. Please note that I have a 300 bar rated bottle from Edgun and also 300 bar rated gauge.
I guess only time will tell how long this last.

BOOM... 2 weeks in... Filling my RTI Prophet to 300 bar.. it wont build pressure anymore.. any good repair vid's please??

No pressure at all?

On my cheap little compressor I thought the same thing, it would fill to about 160 bar and no more.......I then noticed a bit of air was coming from a connection in the hose. It wasn't always there but developed over time I'm assuming. Tightened it up and all was fine.

After a few short months with this, I have some thoughts.

Still working like a charm, and so easy to use and no maintenance yet other than swapping the cotton filter. I feel like this compressor really could last a long time if it's being used for the "right" airguns, and NOT being used for any buddy tanks.

That said, even some airgun tanks will be too much for it. When I was using it only for 200bar fills on Kratos (500cc) Akela, and Artemis pistol, Dragonclaw and SAM Marauder, it only takes minutes to top off a chamber.

Right now I am filling the new upgraded 580cc tank for my LCS SK19. The jump up to a 300BAR fill was, well almost scary in how much longer it took, and how much hotter the compressor gets. It's laboring now above 200bar, .. and that last 90 BAR (I've got it set to 290ish, just under 300) is going to take longer than the first 200. This IS going to kill this compressor mush faster I suspect. I can smell it. I might still get a year out of it. I might get a month, time will tell. But when it does die, I am positive it would have lasted many more refills with the more laid back 200bar guns.

I got mine almost 3 months ago and and so far it has delivered every time with no issues to report. I do treat it with silicon oil and silicone grease on the joints (same areas it has been applied with ii the factory) every 3-4 fills as needed. It does help reducing friction and prevent from overheating.

I was at the range yesterday, used it to fill my Red Wolf HP 3 times from 130-245 BAR. LOVE how portable and easy to operate this thing is. Took about 14-15 mins each fill. The hottest it got was 35C (95F) on a hot (87F) day. I did add a larger water/oil separator metal filter tube I bought online, and replaced the desiccant beads it came with, with 1/16″ silica gel desiccant Zeolite Molecular Sieve 13X to ensure max moisture filtering. Adding the larger filter extends fill time by 4-5 mins. I read that other folks advised against it as it forces the compressor to work harder than it's intended design, thus shortening it's life span, but I just don't trust the small golden filter it comes with to do good enough of a job at filtering. Trying to treat this thing with care to help it live a long happy life.

My no-name orange compressor just died, three months to the day. Once pressure gets around 500 psi it starts making groaning noises, immediately slows down, and dies. No error code, just says, "I'm done." This first occurred when recharging the gun from empty, at 2000 psi. It sounds fine when not under load. The results were the same with both the gun and the dummy plug. I'm making a warranty claim to the manufacturer, but I'm not optimistic.

My guess is something in the first or second stage piston. Moving air that's not under load is fine, but trying to push against pressure causes whatever is busted to fail.

Maybe the next stop is a Yong Heng. Parts are easy to get. Walmart will sell one + a 3-year warranty for $300. Fixing the orange pump might be the nighttime portion of my airgun hobby.

Good info Ari, could you show me exactly where you are applying oil and grease? Is there much to disassemble to do that?

thanks,

I took the easy route and didn't have to disassemble anything actually. To get to those hard to reach areas (marked with red arrows) through the slots in the back side of the case cover, I put a long extra and thin straw (like the one that comes with a WD40) and taped it on the silicone oil tube, did the same with the silicone grease tube just with a wider straw. I try to not drench the joints and apply just enough to ease up the friction. Hope this helps.
