Haven't been able to shoot outdoors the last month because of the weather. After shooting about 350 of these JSB 16 grain 177's I am positive they buck the wind better than a 22 cal 16 grain domed pellet shooting the same FPE. The 16 grain 177 also shoots flatter and has considerably less drop compared to the 22 cal 16 grain pellet.

Late in the afternoon the winds died down to about 5 - 8 mph. Video is 5 shots at 75 yards:

Thanks Ginuwine. Im pretty sure the difference is due to the shape. Google JSB Beast 177 pellet image, they are shaped like a torpedo not a typical domed pellet.

Very small difference between .177 and .22 of inch but the .177 has less surface area cutting the wind. My opinion is these 16 grain 177 shoot flatter than the 22 cal 16 grain more so because of the torpedo shape than the .5 inch difference.

That's some awesome shooting, so that slight push to the right due to the wind I assume, So I may as well just start ordering the JSB 16's in .177 right off the bat ?
Hmm I figured if the 16's in .22 are shooting great, you would think that the 10 g would be just as good.Obviously your video proved my theory wrong.
Cant wait to post my Pic's once my Air Wolf gets in.

95% of the Air Wolf posts I read on the forums the end users are very happy with their purchase. Pretty sure you will be no different. The thing I did that improved my Air Wolf the most was install a custom board. The custom board has 12 power settings where the original board has two. After installing the custom board mine shot 8 fpe through 26 fpe. Link to a post about the board and where to buy it:

AA the 16.2 grain were chronied at 940 - 945 fps = 32 fpe.

Ok just throwing this out there after receiving my AW in .177 I shot the same JSB's 10.3 g as shown in the test target. At 25 yards the gun is shooting the same pellet over pellet.
When I switch to low power It's still shooting hole over hole except 1/4 lower on same POA. So question is, with It shooting like this what advantage does the custom board get you other than increased shot count ? How does precision get any better than this ?

When I installed the board my 177 was shooting 7 - 8 fpe on low and 26 fpe on high. If your barrel likes one of the heavy 177 pellets(13 grain or more) you will be able to shoot further distances more accurately with the added power.

H&N, JSB and Edjuin sell heavy 177's. I would try them with the stock board and if your barrel shoots one accurately the $250 upgrade is worth it IMO. At #3 power mine is now shooting 11 - 12 fpe, I lost count but on a 3200 psi it was over 350 pellets with almost zero POI change. On #1 power Im sure it will be over 500 shots on a 3200 psi fill.

You would be right most likely. The BC of a .177 at 16 grains is going to be considerably higher than the BC of a .22 at the same weight because the cross sectional area of a .22 is 30% larger. Definitely going to fly better when launched at the same velocity.

Good info. Didn't realize it was that much of a difference in surface area between a 177 and 22. Look at a 16.2 Beast, Im positive the torpedo shape helps cut the wind compared to a typical dome pellet.

The guy in Greece makes and sells the board on ebay. If you have a problem your going to want him to help you out. As far as the barrel it took Three to get one that shot the 16.2 this accurate. I tried a BSA, and another LW polygon. Barrel in the video is a LW polygon. Buying a barrel is a lottery. Bought 2 LW's at the same time, the one in the video shoots many pellets extremely accurate the other shoots okay with 13.4 and both H&N Sniper 8.5 - 7.5 grain.

Nice 75 yard group Sam. My .177 RAW with the LW polygon barrel is only shooting the 16 gr's at 700 FPS. I'm sure that's not enough speed for best accuracy. I'd love to bump it up a bit and see, as it's liking the 13 gr's better at 770 fps. Would love to have this be both a 25 and 50 yard rifle, but at the current speeds, I'm pretty sure past 25 yards it's going to loose accuracy. Still cold and snowing in MA. Will need to wait. BTW, 940 - 945 fps with a 16 gr pellet.. Wow that's a lot of push. Anyways, bla, bla What I really want to say is, that's an impressive distance with a .177. Well done!

Thanks Chas. Both my polygons shoot the H&N Snipers extremely well, without wind consistent 1/2 inch groups straight from the tin at 50 yards. Ill bet your barrel will like them. Both barrels like them at 850 - 890 fps. I would order both the 7.5 and 8.5 grain if your going to try them. The air wolf likes the 7.5 better that the 8.5.

What I have found with the air wolf is the hotter I can shoot the 16 grain the better. As soon as they drop to around 870 fps accuracy also drops. Like you I cant wait for the weather to break. Im 40 miles from Syracuse, its been snowing, cold and windy the last few weeks. A couple of guys I shoot with have RAWS. One nicer than the next, all excellent shooters. What stock do you have?

Sam, I have the thumb hole stock. It's on a TM 1000. Really nice gun. Yeah, those cylindrical pellets need to fly to get accurate. I'll try the snipers. My gun should be able to shoot them 850 - 890 FPS just fine. It's funny, I''m such a JSB snob, I would never have thought of trying H&N pellets, even though I'm aware they are fine pellets. Yep, snowing here now and butt cold...

ballistic, the JSB .22 25 gr cylindrical pellets need to be shot really fast to get accuracy. I remember Aaron posting that he was getting great accuracy from them somewhere well above 900 FPS. Check out his post for more details.

"pinwheel87"Sam, will I be able to compete with an Air Wolf right out of the box @ 25 and 50 Yd benchrest ? I have only shot it at 25 and 30 M with .177 JSB's 13's with no problem hitting 10's. Have to shoot a full card at 25 1st to see how many X's yet .

THANKS for you input, much appreciated pinwheel87
Electronic triggers are not allowed in sanctioned BR matches. I think in the unlimited or open class electronic triggers are allowed but from what I understand that is a class that nobody competes in.
