I like 6x @25m and mostly mantaining this proportion 2.4x @10m, 4.8x @20m, 12x @50m and so on trying to mantain the dimensions of the target and the field of view. My choice in magnification is between 2-7x to 4-16x max.

If the most of the shoots are between 7(less?) and 15yards both the calibers are usable but... I prefer .177 in low power configuration 5.5ftlb/7.5j , for that distance RWS R10, H&N Match Heavy or even lighter ones as Geco and RWS Field Target , H&N Barracuda 8, JSB Exact or JSB Exact Express...

Diana Stormrider. I would suggest .177 regulated to be detuned for the ratting purpose. I like sub 5.5ftlb/7.5J because enough power, better kill zone in the 7-25yards and no damages all around

I have all the Airmax mentioned but for ratting in a 7-25 yards I prefer the 2x7-32, the 3x9-40 is better overall and mainly in the 12-40yards, the 4x12-40 is nice but too long.
