Thanks for the reply. Mine actually cracked into two pieces, and the trigger still functions, so I always wondered what it did.

Try inserting a layer/s of paper to take up the clearance and add friction, enough to a point where it's takes a bit of force to slide it on. It's reversible and doesn't harm anything.
