Should i buy Taipan Veteran standard .177

My Taipan Vet .177 cal is accurate. My Vet and Mutant .22 cal(s). are very accurate to 75 yards. I would recommend the .22 caliber Standard

-- it can be adjusted to lower the power level and is extremely quiet.

It is in fact the Standard. The shot count varies wildly with the power level. I've shot the rifle from 31 FPE to 18 FPE (@18 FPE currently for surreptitious backyard use).

I agree with you on the acquisition of the .177 cal since you already own several .22s.

I'm about to clean the barrel of my .177 cal. Tell me what power level you want and I will shoot a string to get a shot count.

i was thinking around 20 fpe to shoot jsb exact heavy's.Maybe less.I bellive around 100 or more? You don't have to waste so much time and pellets it is not that important. Thanks anyway.Shame that the seller here in Eu only has grey laminates.I like your stock better.Nice bunny btw.

👌

I will get back to you in a bit. However, 100 shots does sound more than a little ambitious though.

My .22 Short gets over 100, 19.5fpe shots that are same impact point out to 55 yards. I know you're talking .177 but just wanted to add that it's possible.

(I remember when chrono testing that the speed comes up about 10-12fps around 120-130bar, but impact point isn't affected until down around 90 bar, at least not at <55 yards. So 250-105 bar gave me 96 shots just this past Saturday, and between my son and I, knocked down 7/8 field targets on the last lane, which would have been shots 88-96, 4 of the last 8 shots were at a target that was a 52-53yarder.)

I have a taipan veteran standard in .177, and it seems to have potensial. By that I mean I have not owned it long enough to try enough pellets, and different speeds. I felt the the gun became a litle loud when I reach up to 900fps. So I kept it a while shooting JSB heavies at around 830-850 fps, where it did shoot good at 25m, and was more quiet for my liking. I have later acquired a moderator adapter, and attached a moderator on the shroud, and is ready to try speeds with JSB heavies from 880, and beyond. The gun seems to be regulated a lilte high from factory, as the max speed of JSB heavys was close to 1050 fps. It shot the same pellet at 1040, and JSB monster heavy 947 fps, from factory tune. Did never tested for accuracy at that speed, and dialed it down. If I do not remember wrong, the reg is set at around 130-140 bar, which might seems to be high if I want to shoot medium weight pellets. For the moment I am waiting for a new shipment of JSB heavies, so have not tried out the higher speeds yet.

@2manyairgunz , When you say your .177 is “accurate” vs very accurate, what are we talking about here in terms of group size at 30 to 40 yards? Thanks.

I will try to shoot a few groups with both calibers from 40 yards tomorrow. I will let you know the results. It may just be my rifles, but with my Taipans, the .22 calibers are more accurate than the .177 cal. Also, in my experience, beyond 60 yards neither the .177 caliber nor the .22 Vet can match my Vet .25 cal. Long.

I have had 2 taipan long with the cz barrels..and they are definitely a step up from the crickets..the feel completely different..at least from the old criket models which are the ones I have now .. if I were to buy a new rifle I would prefer to buy the new version of the cricket...I purchased a really damaged 177 compact from Air guns of Arizona..I buy a new stock deep cleaning and a reseal...I'm not a group guy I hunt when I have the time..and that little 177 have dropped birds at 110y in a low wind day..is simply awesome so awesome that I sell my .22 cricket compact to buy the standard because the .22 was no greater than my 177 ..compact.-- 4 mags on the stock .. no hanging around the barrel...but definitely yes you should try .177...I recently order 177 long barrel for the 177 and one for the .22 they are 22" long ..le se how that goes

Thanks 2manyAirgunz for testing your rifle. That is great shootcount.

Franklink for compact model it is even more amazing to get that many shoots, my. 25 only get's around 30.

Mercado i also belive Taipan is a step up from Cricket and even Vulcan. (i had Cricketand still have. 22 Vulcan)

Tor 47 i thought of that the Taipan has set regulator to high for light or medium weight pellets. Otherwise you wouldn't get so big adjustment range with just turning hammer spring screw.

Has anybody try Monsters in. 177 Taipan's?

Hi everyone.

I sold my hw110 .177 and i am looking for new .177.There is not much info about that caliber.

I own Veteran compact.25 and it is amazing.Only negative is that it is loud.

I expect big noise difference from longer barrel standard version .177 and also in shootcount.Would like to know how accurate they are in .177.

Regards Marko
No, get a rifle with the mag in front of your ears and the action when cocking in front of your natural hand position
You'll regret having to cock the action each time by reaching waaay back up against your neck, poor design IMHO
