Help with second airgun

I just got into airguns as a way to do backyard hunting, but seeing how fun and accurate it is, I decided to set up a steel range in the yard. Got a Huben K1 in .22 and it’s great, however I want something I can hand pump (for the exercise).

I’m looking for other options with a 3k psi tank or less, because 3k psi is the max I can hand pump. Needs to be very quiet because I don’t want neighbors to hear. Prefer a non semi auto this time around. Sticking with .22.

Option 1: Airforce talon SS .22, but I heard they are very loud even with moderator. I held one in a store and can’t get a cheek weld. I assume a longer tank is needed to get a cheek weld. I also heard the triggers aren’t great. But I like the idea of single shot and simple operation.

Option 2: Benjamin marauder, but I don’t wanna put money into upgrading it when I can just buy a better gun off the bat.

Option 3: screw it and get the gk1.

Anyone more experienced have any recommendations?

Hello , and welcome to AGN. I want to let you know that a steel target is very loud. If you don't want to be making noise because of neighbors then use something like rubber mulch , or cardboard stacked up in a couple boxes. Steel is also very dangerous where people are around due to ricochet. For exercise a multi pump , or a break barrel are also good , and develope different mussels. PCP Pistols are the easiest for a hand pump because of smaller tube , and some can have the shoulder stock added like the Benjamin marauder with a folding stock. As far as hand pumps go if you get a "HILL" I have read they are the best very reliable , and sturdy.
Happy Shooting , and have fun. The Notos is a very good choice. OV.

If you can find a used Taipan Vet or Mutant shorty in .22....they are QUIET, accurate and have smallish tube reservoirs....but they are tough to find as they are great and people usually don't let them go. An FX Wildcat Compact is another one I would look at. Like said above the smaller Brocock Atomics, Pathfinders etc....

Welcome aboard! And though it’s a well known secret that I am partial to the BRKs through their performance. I suggest you look into the Atomic or Ranger XRs. Lightweight and small, but outsized in utility, 17 fpe of absolute goodness. And you can definitely hand pump up to the required pressure. Good luck in your decision. Ignore the bottled Pathfinder as I don’t / won’t handpump it. All three of these have been as solid as its brethren…

@Soundwave Option 3 is very tempting because I really like the Huben platform, but I recommend that you at least consider starting with a single shot or a repeater before getting into semi-automatic airguns. I think the Airforce Escape is a hand pump friendly utility airgun.

It’s ok, I plan to put the steel far into the woods in the back, where it is heavily forested. The sound shouldn’t bother anyone when it’s at least 60 yards away.

Another vote for the HW100 / HW110 series of rifles. Excellent triggers and 200 BAR fill with a very accurate barrel.

I have the HW44 (the pistol version of the HW110) and it is nigh perfect for a PCP pistol with a red dot.

No one has mentioned the Umarex Notos so I will toss that one out there. Lots of tinkerers and modders seem to like it if that is your thing.

I have the BRK Ghost (not hand pump friendly at all) but it is my first but not my last BRK product. I keep eyeballing the Atomic. It is a 250 BAR fill but a small reservoir so should be easy to hand pump.

Speaking of hand pumps.. Have you seen this beast? It is amazing. Very very steampunk. I highly recommend one if you are going to hand pump. Gregor sold me on it. He has a video.

I have the GK1 and it has been problematic for me. Probably because of me and my knuckle dragging tendencies. I would not recommend one.

I have this and I prefer it over my GK1. Very nice trigger, sedate shot cycle can be turned into a carbine with two screws.

Very hand pump friendly and laser accurate out to 55 yards. I have a 2-7x32 Burris pistol scope on it.

Huntsman Revere is another one to check out. Easy to hand pump and accurate out to 100 yards out of the box with optics, pellets and some good sand bags.

Have fun!

I would buy used based on what you've described. I am very partial to used guns. Tons of value and the shot count is generally shockingly low.

The Marauders are great - they are good out of the box after an initial tune and you will have the potential to add aftermarket parts (you say you don't want to now but for ~$200 in parts you can add a regulator and lightweight hammer for an incredibly efficient and accurate gun for the money). My .177 MROD that I installed a Huma Reg + Nylon Hammer gets >100 shots at 20 FPE from a 3k fill. Done right a .22 should easily get 60 regulated shots at 30 FPE. Unregulated you'll likely get ~30 usable shots.

A used BSA Buccaneer/Gamo Coyote/Urban would be a good option. I had one that I ultimately sold. Fantastic BSA barreled-rifles for ~$300-400.

A used Daystate Hunstman/Harrier or Air Arms S2/S4/S5 series would fit the bill. I pumped an Air Arms S400 carbine for years and it was very manageable. All of those options will be plenty accurate. Add an FX Streamline to this list.

If you can find one and want something different...any of the older Webley/FX guns. Venom Viper, Raider, FX2000, Timberwolf, RWS Rapier. Gorgeous blued-steel tube guns that had wonderful barrels, beautiful wood, and good triggers. AOA has a lot of these in the used section.

A ton of fantastic options given what you've described.
