Daystate Blackwolf owners discussion

You pay a premium price for a gun, you should not have to buy a barrel to get it to shoot better. I ordered a 25 caliber 28” barrel the day I bought the BW. I have talked to a couple of people and they say that the barrel we will get will be a Submoa barrel
They put videos out saying how well this gun is so easy to interchange barrels and there’s nothing available for a year. This is unbelievable. They did the same thing with the Delta wolf and Alpha wolf you could not buy barrel then they came out . I am glad that they didn’t have the barrels now the barrels are not worth the money. All I can say is I hope that when I get my gun back I hope it shoots right.
i totally agree.... if you bought it from AOA or other, the Daystate has a 5 year warranty and they will make it right or refund you. Did you buy a barrel specific for slugs or pellets? remember your warranty... if unhappy insist on a refund.

I didn't know you can order a sub MOA barrel, how much did that cost? Is it a custom made order or it's something AOA plans to carry in the future? I noticed barrel harmonics is definitely at play here, at least for my BW. Without a moderator, it shoots best at 880 fps with 25 grain with AEA and JTS pellets. Anything faster the group opens up. I bought a 0dB Advantage Target Pro Kit to play with and was able to get good accuracy up to 920 fps. The group opens up if going faster than 920 fps with the 0dB Advantage Target Pro Kit. Daystate only states in their marketing that BW comes with LW barrel, not "match grade LW barrel", which is rather disappointing considering the cost of the gun.
Well not so fast... Although on the list for a 23" .25 barrel, they couldn't quote me a price or delivery date... apparently sub MOA is so busy they hop from one project to the next....

I started a project with my 30 caliber Daystate I was able to put different caliber barrels on the gun it has taken 3 years to get the barrels and probes. Add a helliboard to this gun and was able to use the different power level for each barrel to shot slugs & pellets.
I was hoping to do the same with the BW

pretty much a thing with diablo pellets = meaning they fly best between 880 and low 900 fps. any gun i have that is tuneable that i increase a diablo pellet speed beyond 908 fps my groups suffer. I am no ballistics guy, just an end user.

I was told by AOA that barrel with shroud and probe would run around $860 they said aftermarket barrels I take it’s not coming from Daystate

A common denominator among unhappy DS owners is their lack on interest in american client's wants. Very expensive for what they are; unreliable performance at times, lack of peformance, poor availability of parts and even lack of knowledge of advertised products by their US representatives. It is like talking to a car dealer that is not familiarized with the brand and model !

IMHO FX is winning by default!

Funny that you said that I have been going round and round with Fx or you could say UA both of them, I have a Fx true ballistics choreograph, I would shoot a 5 shot group and the FPE would show 82 FPE and when I save it, it said 65 FPE they said delete the app and start over, on my phone all it would do is let me reinstall it from the cloud, I finally got it to do a new install and everything is working fine now.
They said that they have never had this problem, it was the app that gave me the problem. I am going to test it again tomorrow to verify that it is corrected and let them know.

I just got off the phone with AoA. Those guys are great to deal with! I ordered a spring kit (and an entire seal kit) so I can experiment with backing mine down after I check the breech o-ring and ensure the barrel is installed correctly. It won't go slower than 935 fps with 25g with the blue spring and reg showing 115-120b. I also ordered some Grands in 28g just for giggles.

Funny you should mention the JSB 28.55 Grands. I just ordered a tin on a lark and tested it out about 30 minutes ago. At 135 bar, white spring at Max I was getting a really tight group at 20 yards in my backyard. My chrono was out of power unfortunately so I can't tell you what speed they were traveling at, but this could be a nice discovery for .22 pellet shooters. More to come on this topic...

Very interesting! I'm curious how fast they are moving.

For you guys having trouble at longer yardages you should polish your barrels a bit with jb bore paste. I’ve been having good luck with ghost barrels by polishing them. Took my 25 cal from 1 1/2” or so groups to groups like this with just a polishView attachment 596413
You are using a ghost barrel in a BW?

No i shoot ghosts but the barrels are most likely coming from the same place and the ghost barrels seem sometimes to react well to a good polish as someone else said i don’t think the barrels are getting the same level of love at the factory as when the red wolf first came out

I think that Daystate is making a lot more guns and can’t take the time to test them, like they may have in the past. The BW is a new platform, I have thought about the ghost but I like the looks of red wolf black wolf it seem to be easier for bench rest shooting to me

Yea to each their own. I think the blackwolf is a good platform also think their nuts with the price especially with the problems people are having. Personally i love the ghost have 3. But as i said you blackwolf guys with poor groups should try polishing the barrels i think you might end up being surprised.

I would love to get that done but I don't want to do it myself and nobody locally does it. Do you have any recommendations?

I don't know if the aftermarket barrels will be sub-MOA, but I did a lot of reading and research on the brand. As always, airgun youtubers sing praises of the barrel while real world owners on this forum isn't too impressed. And that price for a barrel is pretty outrageous unless they GUARANTEE it's a shooter.
